Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Acme, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Over all a good experience, but it's hard to recommend something after such a short time and people's needs are different. See above comments I think it's hard to evaluate a new roof with a lifetime warranty after a very short time and very little rain, but so far we're very happy.
Overall I didn’t have the greatest experience but that was primarily from the contracted installation crew and their lack of follow through with doing the roof right the first time. Otherwise I’m happy with the way the roof looks and the quality. And despite having to have part of it redone I appreciated the interlock rep going up in my attic and making the crew redo it correctly so I had a quality job. His honesty about the situation went a long way. I would have liked to choose when they were coming. When you’re paying upwards of 50k for a roof I would think you could have some say.
They can improve with a better communication between the installation crew and the client. If there was an Interlock member with the crew as a translator, that could have helped. The installation crew need more tarps and a magnet to pick up the remaining debris of nails. There was asphalt dust all over the yard. I believe it will be a good roof.
Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.
Correcting the one error quickly. i would like to suggest they look into a better way to do the nailing. The nails are popping through under our roof and it doesn't look very nice. Otherwise we love our roof.
Paul is a great guy. The biggest disappointment is that we couldn't go with Paul.
Not for existing properties. If new construction yes. I have several siblings living in this town in over million dollar homes and they have heard my frustrations. First change the wording in your acceptance letter from available 24-7 availability to Monday through Friday time zone available.Making sure someone has on-call contact for emergencies (leaking roof).Being able to return calls, scheduled dates. Initial sales pitch should match what is on line with regards to the actual warranty-false sales pitch really is a sticker to us. The crew really should take consideration of laying the tarps (I saw but never used)-could prevent leaking roof. Also I have a cover on my garage that would be very expensive to replace had their metal pieces hit it is such a way as to put tears in it. I noted several things fall from roof onto this covering.
Communication, follow up, status checks, etc. I received a confirmation of final payment about a month later and still have not received warranty documents. ( as of March 1st) Final check written on January 22. Job finished on Jan 16.We also could have benefitted from better information and consultation/education on snow guards. In February we received a lot of snow. The snow sliding off our roof on the north side and dropping onto a second story deck has really caused us some concern. It was 22" deep and had t be shoveled off. I am not sure about what to do in the future and if this is a hazard or if damage will occur to the deck structure. During the initial presentation / ordering Paul asked if we wanted snow guards, but no advice or more in-depth consideration was given pertaining to the design of our residence. We do not get a lot of snow each year, but it should be considered more carefully. We also did not care for the "buy it right now to get the best price" approach. You should drop this high pressure sales technique and your company would benefit - it can cause some trust issues with customers. Hoping to hear back about what we might consider regarding snow issues.
My only suggestion would be to recycle the cardboard packing if possible.
I had a hard time remembering their name. I love my new roof.
See above. Thank you to everyone who helped us throughout this process!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Acme
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Acme, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Acme.
How does a metal roof handle Acme's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip—snow slides off naturally before it compacts into dangerous dams. Acme receives about 192 cm of snow annually, and freeze-thaw cycles happen roughly 52 days per year; that constant expansion and contraction damages asphalt shingles but leaves aluminum unaffected. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that even as your home expands and contracts, the roof stays sealed. If you want snow retention for safety, we install snow guards—but the roof itself won't deteriorate from the weight or the cycling.
Will freeze-thaw damage my aluminum metal roof like it damages other materials?
No—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it doesn't absorb water and has no pores to trap moisture. Wood shakes and tiles absorb water, freeze, expand, and crack; asphalt becomes brittle in cold. Acme experiences about 52 freeze-thaw days yearly and temperatures that dip well below freezing. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so even minor damage won't invite corrosion. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is also applied to the underside of every panel, sealing it completely. Over 25+ years of Whatcom County winters, this resilience means your roof simply keeps performing.
Why choose aluminum instead of steel roofing in a rainy climate like Acme?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. When aluminum's surface is scratched, the oxide layer reforms automatically, creating its own repair system. This matters enormously in Acme, where rainfall averages about 1744 mm per year and coastal moisture can accelerate corrosion in steel roofs. Steel roofing rusts; copper and zinc coatings eventually fail. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Once installed, your aluminum roof won't rust—ever.
Does Acme's 1744 mm of annual rain put metal roofing at risk of leaks?
No—heavy rainfall actually favors metal roofs, which have no porous surface to trap water and superior drainage geometry. Acme's average rainfall won't overwhelm a metal roof; in fact, asphalt shingles fail faster in climates with sustained moisture because they absorb water and degrade. Interlock panels interlock on four sides (ESR-1790 compliant with IBC/IRC codes), meaning water finds no path between panels once they're sealed. Proper underlayment and flashing (installed to spec) channel any seepage away. Metal roofing has one of the lowest leak rates of any roofing type—the vulnerability is installation, not the material. Our local installers know Whatcom County's weather and have been serving since 1997.
Are metal roofs safe in Acme's wind gusts, or will they blow off?
Interlock metal roofs are warrantied to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec—well beyond Acme's typical gusts of about 120 km/h (75 mph). The four-way interlocking panel system locks each piece to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. Whatcom County's strongest gusts are forecast to reach about 120 km/h, but most days sit around 10 km/h. The locking design means wind doesn't tear panels apart; it grips harder. This is verified by the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790), which confirms the system's wind resistance for residential installations. You get security without the noise or vibration that loose metal can cause.
Do I need hail insurance with a metal roof, or does it protect itself?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That means if hail damages your roof, the warranty covers it; you're not paying out of pocket. Many insurers recognize Class 4 ratings and offer discounts because metal roofs rarely suffer hail damage that asphalt or tile would. Acme's climate includes occasional hail, but the aluminum's strength and flexibility absorb impact better than brittle ceramic or slate tiles. Contact your insurer about discounts—some offer 5–15% reductions on metal roofs. The upfront durability translates to lower long-term insurance costs for many homeowners.
What's the maintenance routine for an aluminum metal roof in Acme?
Aluminum metal roofs require virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. You don't replace worn shingles, reseal seams, or pressure-wash algae growth like you do with asphalt every 10–15 years. Acme's 1744 mm of rain and coastal moisture mean asphalt roofs degrade faster; wood shakes absorb moisture and split. Metal simply sheds water and resists mildew. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—professional coatings that don't require homeowner intervention. Occasionally clear gutters and inspect flashing, but the roof surface itself stays maintenance-free. Over the roof's lifespan, this saves you hundreds in upkeep and seasonal repairs.
Can my Acme home's framing support a metal roof, or do I need structural upgrades?
Almost certainly no reinforcement needed—that's one of aluminum's biggest advantages. The Interlock Tile profile, which replicates heavyweight ceramic or slate, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft (roughly 96% lighter than the real thing). Most homes' existing framing already carries the weight of their current roof plus snow loads; Acme's average annual snowfall is about 192 cm. Metal roofing is lighter than the asphalt and felt it replaces, so your home actually experiences less total load. An engineer can confirm if needed (often a quick visual), but this is rare. You can also install metal over most existing roofs without tear-off, saving thousands in labor and landfill costs. The lightweight design lets you get premium aesthetics without costly renovation.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, because you're buying your last roof. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and need replacement multiple times in a homeowner's tenure; metal roofing carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years. Over 40–50 years, you'll replace asphalt two or three times at 8,000–12,000 dollars each cycle; one metal roof costs more upfront but eliminates replacement cycles. Add zero maintenance (no resealing, no algae treatment), potential insurance discounts, and energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance), and the math favors metal. Current promotion: zero payments and zero interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Over the life of your home, metal is the economical choice.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Acme, and how long is the process?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Whatcom County since 1997, so they know Acme's climate (1744 mm rain, 192 cm snow, 52 freeze-thaw days per year) and building codes inside out. Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity, and most installs happen over existing roofs, meaning no tear-off delay. The four-way interlocking panel system locks together quickly, and the local crew understands flashing details critical to Acme's wet winters. They can answer site-specific questions about snow load, gutter sizing, and ventilation. As a regional installer with 27+ years in the PNW, they file permits, handle inspections, and back their work. When you need warranty service or advice, you're calling the people who installed it—not a national call center.
