They could have improved by having better subcontracting and a better process on figuring out who to actually hire for the subcontractors. Patrick and Ivan went above and beyond trying to resolve the issues my wife and I had with the subcontractors.

I tried for several years to find a roof i would be happy with that would enhance the beauty of my property. I had been quite disappointed with the companies I was working with. When Interlock Roofing came along it was such a relief! Even though it did cost me more than other options, I feel like I received more value, especially long term, than any other offer I was considering. And I would not be as pleased with any other roofing system than I am with Interlock Roofing. Seriously, I can't think of a thing. I was surprised by everyone's attention to details. I was very pleased with the daily clean up of the job site. I have never driven down a road and exclaimed "that is a beautiful roof". Now people tell me I have a beautiful roof! It really is!

This is probably the most professional experience I have had in years. I was blown away. From the time I contacted them, they were on time and did exactly what they said they would do the whole way through. Someone is doing an excellent job of directing this company. I need to contact Paul or Ross because I have more roofs to put on. I would give them a rating of 475! My roof cost twice as much as any other bid, but I am ten times happier than I would have been with any other roof. People who see this roof compliment me on it. It will be spectacular once I finish the entire roof. The roof is stunning! There was no snow on the new roof when it stopped snowing last week; the snow simply slid off. It was incredible.

Review: October 26, 1999 Completion: October 6, 2018

What a substantial difference the Interlock aluminum roof has made to the appearance of my hundred year old house. The haunted house look changed instantly into desirable real estate. The people who sold me the house have said they wish they had asked more for it now! My previous roofer, who I have used for many years on five different roofs with excellent results; drove by and said he knew it was a good job. He also wanted to recommend Interlock roofing to another customer who wanted something better than composition roofing. The service was great, the sheet metal engineers were industrious, exacting workers, and there have been no problems with anything. It looks so solid and neat; I cannot describe it exactly, but I will never be happy with composition roofing again. The leaves slide right off so it is always clean, and shows off the gables and fancy lines of the house so well... I love it!

Review: July 10, 2025 Completion: June 24, 2025

Over all a good experience, but it's hard to recommend something after such a short time and people's needs are different. See above comments I think it's hard to evaluate a new roof with a lifetime warranty after a very short time and very little rain, but so far we're very happy.

Review: April 6, 2023 Completion: March 30, 2023

Overall I didn’t have the greatest experience but that was primarily from the contracted installation crew and their lack of follow through with doing the roof right the first time. Otherwise I’m happy with the way the roof looks and the quality. And despite having to have part of it redone I appreciated the interlock rep going up in my attic and making the crew redo it correctly so I had a quality job. His honesty about the situation went a long way. I would have liked to choose when they were coming. When you’re paying upwards of 50k for a roof I would think you could have some say.

Review: September 30, 2021 Completion: August 25, 2021

They can improve with a better communication between the installation crew and the client. If there was an Interlock member with the crew as a translator, that could have helped. The installation crew need more tarps and a magnet to pick up the remaining debris of nails. There was asphalt dust all over the yard. I believe it will be a good roof.

Review: December 10, 2020 Completion: December 31, 2020

Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Columbia Valley

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Columbia Valley, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Columbia Valley.

How does a metal roof handle Columbia Valley's snow and ice buildup?

Interlock metal roofing sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, interlocked aluminum surface prevents water from pooling and refreezing into dams. With about 90 cm of annual snow and roughly 50 freeze-thaw cycles per year in this region, the lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) won't sag under load, and its non-porous surface eliminates the ice-dam trap that forms when heat melts snow into gutters. Snow guards are optional, letting you choose whether to retain or shed snow based on your roof pitch and preference.

Will freeze-thaw cycling damage aluminum roofing in Whatcom County winters?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and contains no iron, so freeze-thaw cycles cannot cause the rusting or deterioration that weakens steel or asphalt shingles. With approximately 50 annual freeze-thaw days here and roughly 1489 mm of rain, traditional materials absorb water into their structure; aluminum panels are non-absorbent, so expansion and contraction stress does not occur. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading even under this repeated moisture-temperature cycling.

Can a metal roof handle Columbia Valley's 1500 mm of annual rainfall without leaks?

Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed water faster than it falls; the overlap design forces water outward and downward, eliminating standing pools where leaks start. Columbia Valley receives about 1489 mm annually—well above the US average—but metal roofing has been installed successfully from coastal salt-air environments to the Antarctic, both extreme-moisture settings. Proper installation over solid deck and underlayment (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance) ensures water management identical to asphalt shingles, but without the rot risk.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a rainy climate like ours?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a protective oxide layer that automatically heals when scratched, even in wet climates. Steel roofing requires ongoing rust-prevention coatings; if the coating fails, iron oxidizes and the structural integrity declines. Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is the same material used from coastal salt-air homes to research stations in Antarctica—environments far harsher than Whatcom County's 11 km/h average winds and 133 km/h gusts. The Alunar finish on both sides provides a second line of defense against moisture.

Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail insurance discounts?

Many insurers offer discounts for roofing rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available. Interlock metal roofing achieves this rating and is even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, an exceptional standard. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore premium reductions. While hail is not frequent in Columbia Valley's climate record, this impact resistance also protects against falling branches and debris during the wind gusts that can reach 133 km/h here.

Can my roof structure support metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?

You almost certainly do not need reinforcement. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is a fraction of traditional tile weight. Because it weighs so little, it can install directly over most existing asphalt roofs without structural upgrade, saving thousands in preparation costs. This advantage is especially valuable in older homes where structural capacity is a concern.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over a roof's full life, metal roofing typically costs less because it lasts decades longer and requires far less maintenance. An asphalt roof in this climate—with 1489 mm annual rain, 90 cm snow, and 50 freeze-thaw cycles—degrades from moisture absorption and UV damage; you replace it every 15–25 years. Interlock's transferable lifetime limited warranty (50 years for the next owner) and proven installation history since 1998 means your metal roof becomes the last roof you buy. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, eliminating the upfront barrier.

Will my metal roof stay secure in Whatcom County's high winds?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Columbia Valley's typical gusts reach 133 km/h, well within this design envelope. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically, not relying on fasteners alone; once interlocked, the system distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress at seams. This overlap design has proven itself from coastal installations where sustained winds are routine to inland regions with severe wind events.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance beyond standard gutter cleaning, a dramatic advantage over asphalt, wood shakes, or tile. Asphalt shingles absorb moisture and degrade, especially in climates like ours with 1489 mm annual rain and 50 freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shakes split and rot from that same moisture. Tile cracks when frozen water expands inside its pores. Metal panels are non-porous; they shed water and cannot absorb it. The CALGreen-verified coating resists algae and moss growth. You never re-seal, patch, or replace individual shingles.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Substantially so. Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life; when your roof eventually needs replacement (far in the future), the material returns to the recycling stream. An asphalt roof, by contrast, ends in a landfill—and you install a new one every 15–25 years in this climate, multiplying the waste. Over the same 50-year period, a metal roof produces one installation; asphalt produces two to three tear-offs plus disposal. Interlock's manufacturing in Delta, BC, and use of proven aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) closes the waste loop rather than starting it repeatedly.
