Review: January 16, 2015Completion: November 28, 2014

There was an issue at the end with the cleanup. There was a lot of debris left in the gutters, so my husband had to go in and clean them out. When our 2nd leak issue happened, Jessi saw it and verbalized the gutters should have been cleaned out. Also, I did not like that when the workers came in to get the check we had to fill out a rating scale right in front of them, and I found this a little odd. I didn't feel comfortable having an issue with the cleanup, and making that known in front of them. I didn't want to have to explain why I had this issue to them, so I gave them a perfect score.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Greendale

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Greendale, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Greendale.

How does a metal roof handle Wisconsin's snow and ice buildup?

Aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt, reducing the weight load on your structure—critical in Greendale, where you'll average about 88 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified plane that won't trap ice dams along seams. Metal roofs stay colder than asphalt in winter (no solar absorption), so freeze-thaw cycling—about 79 days per year here—causes less material stress. Snow guards are available if you need to control slides onto walkways.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum roofing in Milwaukee County winters?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts, but it won't crack, curl, or split the way asphalt shingles and wood shakes do through repeated freeze-thaw. Greendale sees roughly 79 freeze-thaw days yearly, making this durability real. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels is designed for exactly this—coastal installers rely on it through maritime winters. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, so even extreme seasonal swings are protected.

Can aluminum roofing rust, and why is that important in Wisconsin?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal oxidizes instead, forming a thin, self-healing protective layer that actually strengthens over time. Steel roofing rusts through once the coating fails; aluminum won't. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel adds a second barrier, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Greendale's ~822 mm annual rainfall and temperate humidity, this means your roof stays structurally sound for decades without the corrosion problems that shorten asphalt and steel lifespans.

Is metal roofing secure in Greendale's wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well beyond Greendale's typical wind gusts around 96 km/h. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically fastened to the next across all four edges—a gust can't lift a corner or slide panels apart. Local wind events won't compromise the seal or create uplift points. Installation to specification and proper fastening ensure this warranty holds, making metal roofing more resilient than asphalt in seasonal storm conditions.

Does metal roofing hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating can qualify you for insurance discounts with carriers who recognize impact resistance; contact your agent with the UL listing. Greendale's climate brings hail risk, and asphalt shingles dent and lose granules at far lower impact speeds, triggering costly claims. Metal roofing's proven durability under hail may reduce your premium or claims history, offsetting installation cost over the roof's life.

How much lighter is metal roofing than slate or tile, and does that matter for my house?

The Interlock Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. That's the difference between a total roof load of 1–2 tons and 20–30 tons, meaning no structural reinforcement is needed. Many homes can install metal tile directly over existing asphalt shingles without upgrades. Greendale's building codes (ESR-1790) approve this, saving thousands in framing work. For older homes, this is a major advantage: you get the architectural look of traditional tile without hiring structural engineers or contractors to strengthen rafters.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Metal roofing with energy-efficient colors reflects rather than absorbs heat—reflectance values up to 0.55 on lighter finishes mean less thermal transfer into your attic. Greendale receives about 3128 sunshine hours yearly, so this reflection compounds across warm months. Cool Roof Rating Council data shows metal roofing reduces peak roof surface temperatures by 20–40°F compared to asphalt. Coupled with aluminum's thermal emissivity of 0.84, the result is measurably lower air-conditioning load. This benefit compounds over 50+ years, offsetting some of the higher upfront cost.

What's the real warranty on a metal roof, and how long will it last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no degradation over time. It's also one-time transferable: the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion. Compared to asphalt's 15–20 year lifespan or wood shake's 20–30 with constant upkeep, metal roofing is genuinely the last roof you'll install. Greendale homeowners typically keep roofs 30–40+ years, making this warranty structure a practical match for real ownership timelines.

What roofing styles does Interlock offer, and which profile matches my home's look?

Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the texture and shadow line of its namesake material, manufactured as four-way interlocking aluminum panels in a roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy. The panels install identically regardless of profile—the difference is aesthetic. Slate suits traditional and contemporary homes; Cedar Shingle and Shake work for craftsman or cottage styles; Tile complements Mediterranean or Spanish-influenced designs; Standing Seam reads modern. Visit our photo gallery to compare profiles on homes similar to yours, then discuss installation with your local contractor.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Greendale, and do they have experience locally?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001, meaning they've installed hundreds of roofs through Wisconsin winters, ice dams, 88 cm annual snowfall, and the specific building code requirements (ESR-1790) that apply in Milwaukee County. They understand local contractor relationships, permitting, and the climate challenges Greendale homeowners face. Call them directly for a site visit, references from nearby installations, timeline, and a detailed estimate. Local experience matters: they know what fails here and how to spec the job so your warranty is solid from day one.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Greendale’s climate?

Yes. Greendale averages about 88 cm of snow, 822 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 96 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
