i wanted a metal roof for low maintenance. i explained to sales people on initial visit the HUGE problem i have with fir needles. they claimed that this roof material is like teflon, and needles would slide right off. IT DOES NOT. i should not have gotten the shingles, as needles are sticking and caught in every shingle edge. they are going to decompose into dirt, and then moss will grow. and now i have this precious roof that you aren't supposed to walk on, so i will still have to find workers to come out and clean the roof if i don't want needles and moss all over it. good luck to me finding someone that doesn't step on the shingles wrong and cause additional problems. i think the sales people should have steered me away from the shingle style, and sold me the regular panels, and then maybe the needles would not be building up. its only been a few weeks and the roof is covered in needles. also, they screws they used tore big chunks out of my plywood all along the eves, so i also need to repair those places and re-paint.
