Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Carstairs, Alberta
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Finding nails and pieces of metal around yard after snow melted
Just had my roof done here in Airdrie, Alberta and I couldn’t be happier knowing that I am fully protected from the Alberta weather, Tyler van Ellenberg was extremely knowledge on the Interlock product lines and was an absolute pleasure to deal with. If you are in the market for a roof and don’t want to have to worry about the future in my opinion Interlock is the way to go.
The clean up is the only thing. The project was a month and a half late.
After my last experience with Interlock I would not recommend the company to anyone. See "Additional Comments" This is the second "Interlock Roof" that we have had installed in the last 2 years due to Hail Damage. The first install went extremely well. The two fellows that installed it were professional and courteous. Except for the "construction" noise - which did not seem to be too bad - we didn't even know they were there. We were very happy with the roof.I am very disappointed in the second install. Firstly - we had Siding, Eaves Troughs and Fascia replaced prior to the roof install. We were told by Interlock that this should be done first as it would avoid anyone being on the roof after it was completed. The Eaves Troughs and Fascia were completed two weeks before your crew showed up and it looked perfect. After the roof install the Fascia had been damaged in several places. At all of the peaks it had looked like the fascia had been bent back and then put back in place - it look terrible. The fascia on the garage was all scratched up and the eaves trough on the garage was bent. The crew that came was not professional at all. They had a radio blaring on the roof and then on top of that the guys were yelling and singing at the tops of their voices as well as liberal use of the "F" Word - totally inappropriate for a residential setting. We brought by Father, who lived with me, home from the hospital on Friday, March 27. He was very ill and needed his rest. I asked the guys to turn the radio off and they did - the normal construction noise was not an issue. Over the course of 4 days I had to go out and ask them to turn it off 5 times - not sure what part of "My Father is very ill and needs rest" that they didn't understand. A radio blaring on the roof reverberates through the entire house. I emailed Interlock a letter on April 1, 2015 stating the above. I received a call from Rodney - Installation Manager?? - he should not be allowed to speak to customers. I said I would get a quote to have the Eaves Trough and Fascia replaced which I did. He said they would then reinspect the roof to ensure that none of the tiles were damaged by the Eaves Trough guys. I said I would not be paying until all the work was complete and they had inspected the roof. The work was completed on the Eaves Trough and Fascia on Friday May 15th. Rodney called on the morning of Tuesday May 19th looking for payment and threatening to Lien my Property (Monday was the Holiday) as he said the work had been completed over 30 days - I was not satisfied that the work was complete until all the damage had been repaired and that the roof had been inspected by Interlock - which happened on May 19th - after Rodney's call to me. If Rodney is dealing with Customer Service issues you have a big problem. After seeing the damage that the installation crew did to the Eaves/Fascia and thought that was OK, I have serious doubts about the quality of the work that they did on the roof. I am still picking up bits of metal from my yard. At no point has there been any apology from Interlock for any of this and frankly that would have gone a long way.
We were contacted by Colin James about checking out any hail damage. He came and recommended we put in an insurance claim to have the roof replaced. The insurance agreed to covering the roof and gave us the info. within a few days we received a call from Colin to see if we were going to go with interlock for replacement. I said we had to think about it as we really didn't have a chance to discuss what our options were. Colin offered us an upgrade if we went with interlock but he needed to asap as it was his year end. We felt pressured to make a hasty decision. The part I was most annoyed with was the call from Colin came at 10:45 p.m. and I was sound asleep as I had to go to work the next morning. He wanted an answer then and an email to confirm our decision. I had to get up and do that at 11:00 at night. A bit inconsiderate on his part about the time of day and the fact that we really hadn't had a chance to do any research about our other options.
Their customer service could be improved.
All of the confusion wasn't entirely their fault.
We read an ad in our local newspaper and it talked about the last roof we would ever put on our house guaranteed for 50 years. There was a phone number to call and we really needed to get a new roof as ours was 15 years old and there was no gravel left on the shingles. We called Interlock Roofing, we arranged a date to meet and discuss the application of his product. Within a few days Brad was here and we had a very pleasant and informative meeting with him. By the end of our meeting, we had decided this was the way we wanted to go. Brad said within about thirty days the material and installers would arrive and install the roof. The material arrived within about 15 days and about a month later our installer was on the roof. Jamie a very nice and polite man arrived and introduced himself, he explained what and how he would do the work. We talked daily with Jamie and he would update us on how it was going. They didn’t have to strip the old roof they put the new roof right on top of the old one, saving waste going into the landfill and it didn’t matter if it rained during the installation. It took Jamie about a week, he got rained out one and a half days. When he left at the end of the install there was no sign of him working here other then a new roof. Since the new roof has been installed we have noticed no damage and we have had three " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail storms that damaged vehicles and siding on houses. I was amazed how the hail just bounced off the roof, and no piles of gravel at the bottom of our downspouts, and no shingles lifting off. The house temperature is more consistent it doesn’t get really warm or really cool it stays where we set it and is more comfortable then before. If you are thinking of replacing your roof you should consider investing in your house and protecting it with an interlock roofing system. I feel good knowing I will never replace our roof again , the material stands up to anything the Alberta weather dishes out and there is peace of mind knowing what you see is what you get today , tomorrow and in the future. The warranty is transferable and the roofing system will ad value to our house if we every were to sell, which I don’t think we will do as we live on an acreage and have the million dollar Mountain View. Brad has come back out to our home twice since the installation, just to make sure we are happy with the new roof. It’s nice to know that he cares even after the bill has been paid. Thanks to Jamie and Brad we have nothing to worry about, that a nice feeling when it comes to our home.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Carstairs
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Carstairs, Alberta. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Carstairs.
How does a metal roof handle Carstairs' heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice damming — a critical advantage in a region that averages about 114 cm of snow per year and experiences roughly 113 freeze-thaw days. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels remain rigid through temperature swings; the material won't crack, curl, or split as asphalt and wood do. Snow slides safely when conditions allow, reducing the weight load on your structure and the risk of water infiltration during thaw cycles typical of Calgary's unpredictable springs.
Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in Alberta's climate?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust — ever. Steel oxidizes and requires protective coatings that wear away, especially in freeze-thaw climates like Carstairs where moisture cycles are frequent. Your Interlock aluminum roof forms a self-healing oxide layer; if scratched during installation or by a branch, it repairs itself without maintenance. Over 25+ years of Alberta weather, this non-rusting property means no surprise deterioration, no rust stains on your siding, and no structural weakening from corrosion that would eventually force replacement.
Is metal roofing really cheaper than asphalt over 30 years?
Yes — aluminum roofing costs more upfront, but the math shifts dramatically over time. While asphalt shingles cost less initially, they fail in 15–20 years in Alberta's 113 annual freeze-thaw cycles and require tear-off and landfill disposal. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty covers material defects with zero proration for the original owner, and the roof transfers to the next buyer for 50 years — meaning you may never replace it. Factor in zero maintenance, no re-coating, no ice-dam damage repairs, and the energy savings from energy-efficient colors that reflect solar heat, and the total cost of ownership favors metal by a significant margin over three decades.
What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover, and what about resale?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner — it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance, with no deductibles or time-based reduction in coverage. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from roof completion, a significant feature that increases buyer confidence. This combination means your Carstairs home carries documented roof protection through multiple ownership cycles, eliminating the hidden cost and anxiety of an aging roof hanging over a sale.
Can a metal roof survive Carstairs' wind gusts and storms?
Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Carstairs' typical gusts reach about 92 km/h — well within the safety margin. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock edge-to-edge and end-to-end, distributing wind forces across the entire roof system rather than allowing individual panels to lift or flutter. This engineering is verified by ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, which covers the IBC and IRC building codes. You're protected not just in routine weather, but in the rare severe wind events that occasionally sweep Alberta.
Does a metal roof hold up in Alberta hailstorms?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This is the most rigorous hail-impact standard in North America. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on homes with metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating to explore potential savings. In a region where hail is a recurring spring and summer risk, this combination of proven impact resistance and insurance recognition provides real financial peace of mind.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce energy bills?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt does. These profiles achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 in lighter finishes, reducing the heat load that enters your attic and upper floors. Carstairs receives about 3277 sunshine hours per year — enough to deliver measurable cooling savings, especially during warm months. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms these reflective properties. Combined with proper attic ventilation, a reflective metal roof meaningfully lowers air conditioning demand and your energy costs over time, which compounds over 30+ years of ownership.
Can I get the look of slate, cedar shake, or tile with a metal roof?
Interlock offers five authentic profiles — Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam — each with a textured, dimensioned surface that replicates traditional materials convincingly. The Slate profile suits classic homes; Cedar Shingle and Shake evoke rustic charm; Mediterranean Tile brings Old World elegance; Standing Seam provides clean, contemporary lines. Each profile installs with your choice of premium finishes and colors. You choose the architectural character your home deserves while gaining the non-rusting aluminum, lightweight construction, and lifetime warranty that asphalt, wood, and clay cannot match.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, the heaviest option, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the Slate profile weighs roughly the same as asphalt. This extraordinarily light weight means your existing roof framing — whether built for asphalt or wood — handles metal without modification. In fact, metal often installs directly over your existing roof, reducing tear-off labor and debris costs. This simplicity and safety, combined with the ability to avoid structural work, makes metal roofing accessible to virtually every Carstairs homeowner without surprise engineering expenses.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
A properly installed metal roof requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles require inspection every few years, sealant replacement, and eventual tear-off. Wood shakes demand regular cleaning, treatment, and repairs to prevent rot and insect damage. Interlock aluminum never rots, never requires re-coating or sealant renewal, and resists algae and moss growth. Rain and snow naturally clean the smooth surface. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning your roof looks intentional decades from now. This near-zero maintenance, verified by CALGreen as a reduced-maintenance roofing choice, frees you from the ongoing expense and labor that traditional materials demand.
