| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |

| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Great product! Have put it on 2 of our houses. Would highly recommend it.
We had our Interlock Metal Roof installed in 2011 and recently experienced some damage to the flashing. I called and spoke with Cheri, the Office and Service Department Administrator, who promptly scheduled Brad to assess the issue at the next available time. Despite one of the coldest winter days, Brad repaired the flashing efficiently and at no charge. I may be biased, but every time I pull into our driveway, I truly believe we have the best roof on our street. I would highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd.
These folks are fantastic! From our initial meeting with John to installation by Moses and David they have been great. The roof looks great and their attention to detail was impressive. I thought I had an issue with a trim piece coming loose and called. Within a day the service fellow was here and it turns out the trim came from a skylight...nothing to do with the roof. They fixed it anyway. Spectacular product and even better service! Services Roof installation
Really impressed with the customer service of this company.
Brad was awesome friendly and professional. The snow guards look great
Excellent from start to finish! Our roof consultant, Bob was very thorough and very knowledgeable which gave us added confidence that we had made the right decision after all our research. The installer, Jeremy did an Excellent job of making sure we were happy with the end product. Jeremy takes great pride in his work and holds himself to a very high standard for his workmanship. It was great to see Bob during the installation and after the job was finished, making sure we were happy with the process and the end result. Excellent quality product and installation. The roof looks amazing!! Highly recommend Intetlock roof to any one looking for a superior quality roof and excellent follow up service.
Ken was right on time Nice and done in a short time
From our initial consultation at our home with Carter and Brian (VP) to the installation we couldn’t be happier. When Brian gave us his personal cell phone number that did it for me. If the VP of a company gives you his personal cell phone number, that speaks volumes to the confidence he has in his products. Carter came back a second time to put our minds at ease with our colour selection. Our installation crew was amazing! Maurice and Brian are top-notch gentlemen who did an amazing job. Having a pool, I was concerned about nails and other debris ending up in it. Well, there was absolutely nothing in my pool. You could tell they took pride in the work they did because they took pictures of themselves in front of our home when it was complete. They seemed proud of the job they did. Maurice kept saying it has to be done right the first time because they don’t want to come back (although they are always welcome to stop by for a visit if they are in the area). We were initially concerned that the roof might be louder when it rains, but it’s actually quieter. Our daughter used to wake up through the night when it rained but now she sleeps right through. It could be because they were able to go right over the existing asphalt shingles which also reduces landfill waste. I never thought I would get compliments on a roof. People " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and say it looks great. When I pull up to my home I say wow that roof looks good! It’s a premium roof at a premium price, but one shot and you are done.
My next door neighbour had his installed prior to us and we decided to research metal roofing far and wide. We had to do it since our asphalt roofing was terrible and we were part of a class action lawsuit that was going very slowly. We decided on Interlock and are totally pleased with the quality, timing, workmanship, and attention to details of the company and its friendly installers. Although we had a few minor issues deciding on the installation preparation and with the post-installation within the first 6 months, the Interlock staff member was most responsive and remedied the issues. Being a real estate Broker, I know this has given us an ROI much higher than with a standard roof shingle installation - and gives us a lifetime of no worries. We decided to add a larger eaves and drainage system as well as eaves screens b/c of the nature of the roof. Even our mail delivery person cited that the roof "popped" when he came down the street. I have also recommended Interlock to others. Thanks go to the team approach on this renovation. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation, Skylight installation
So far so good. The product is as described during the sales demonstration and is living up to what was promised. Two years into its life and it looks like brand new. We did however have to install more snow blockers to slow down the snow sliding off the roof. Be sure to have sufficient snow stoppers when you have your roof installed. The roof looks great.
Installation of our roof was flawless in 2018 but a tree limb that fell during a wind storm recently required a significant portion of our roof to be replaced. Again fully satisfied with their responsiveness, thoroughness and their willingness to work with other contractors and our insurance company Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation, Roof repair for storm & wind damag
Interlock Metal Roofing did a very good installing my new roof, high quality product and workmanship. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Value

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in New Hamburg
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in New Hamburg, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in New Hamburg.
How does a metal roof handle New Hamburg's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more reliably than asphalt because the smooth aluminum surface and four-way interlocking panels create no purchase points for ice dams to form. New Hamburg sees about 107 cm of snow annually and roughly 88 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack asphalt shingles and cause cupping. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade from repeated thawing and refreezing, so the panels maintain their structural integrity year after year. Snow guards are available if you want to control shedding on lower sections.
Why won't freeze-thaw damage aluminum the way it damages wood shakes or asphalt?
Freeze-thaw damage occurs when water soaks into porous materials, expands when frozen, and splits the material from inside. Aluminum doesn't absorb water—it's a solid metal, so ice forming on the surface doesn't harm the panel itself. With 88 freeze-thaw days per year in New Hamburg and 779 mm of annual rainfall, traditional roofing materials face constant stress. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy simply doesn't have the porous structure that makes wood curl or asphalt crack under these conditions.
Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode, especially in Ontario's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and creates rust in steel. Instead, aluminum forms an oxide layer on its surface that actually self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath. New Hamburg's 779 mm of annual rain and variable humidity won't compromise the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) that's applied to both panel sides. This double-sided coating is standard on all Interlock profiles and provides extra protection in wet climates.
Will a metal roof stay put during Ontario wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above New Hamburg's typical gust peaks of about 115 km/h. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This locking mechanism is part of the ICC-ES ESR-1790 code evaluation, so your installation meets current building standards without exception.
Do I need to reinforce my roof framing for a metal roof?
No. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means you can install over most existing roofs without structural upgrades, saving thousands in framing work. The Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft. Because aluminum carries so little load, the roof deck bears less stress than it does under traditional tile, and your home's foundation and walls remain unaffected. This is one reason Interlock installs on everything from residential homes to Antarctic research stations.
Is a metal roof durable enough to handle hail, and will it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your broker with the Class 4 rating and product specs. New Hamburg experiences variable weather, and a Class 4-rated roof demonstrates durability that insurers recognize. Unlike asphalt, which fractures under hail and requires replacement, aluminum panels resist impact and maintain their protective function, which translates to lower replacement claims and lower premiums over time.
Can a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, and are Cool Roof Rating Council rated. This matters in New Hamburg where you get about 2970 sunshine hours per year—enough to make reflective roofing meaningful. Asphalt shingles absorb that solar energy and transfer heat into your attic; a reflective metal roof bounces it back. The cooler attic reduces air-conditioning load during warm months, lowering energy use and cost. This benefit compounds over the 30+ year life of the roof.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap and no time-based reduction. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. This structure reflects the reality that aluminum roofing lasts 50+ years under normal exposure; Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, proving durability across extreme climates. New Hamburg's 107 cm annual snow and 88 freeze-thaw cycles are well within the envelope of proven performance.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require?
Minimal. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade and require frequent inspection and repair, or wood shakes that split and cup (especially over 88 freeze-thaw days per year), metal panels don't rot, crack, or curl. Occasional gutter cleaning and removal of debris keeps drainage clear, but the roof surface itself is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains color and gloss for 30 years without touch-up. You'll spend far less time and money on repairs than you would with traditional roofing, and that savings compounds over the roof's lifespan.
Is a metal roof really worth the higher upfront cost?
An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but is genuinely the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years and requires replacement every two decades; a metal roof lasts 50+ years with a lifetime limited warranty. Over a 50-year horizon, you'll replace asphalt 2-3 times at escalating costs, plus pay for storm damage repairs, insurance claims, and energy premiums. Metal's light weight eliminates structural reinforcement ($5,000+), its energy efficiency reduces cooling costs, and the transferable warranty adds 50-year value for resale. Current promotion includes interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499 on installation—a tangible way to bridge the initial gap.
