Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Plainville, Connecticut
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Jonathan was great help getting us all the information needed for the roof and what to expect, and the whole process. The installation was fast, the roofers were hard working and professional. The look of the metal roof is superb!
It was a pleasure working with Interlock from beginning to end. The back office was good about setting expectations for job start and duration, delivery of materials (which happened on time) and work to be performed. They were also good about making adjustments to work with trim that needed to be replaced, etc. The crew that did the install and cleanup was very professional and hard working. I am extremely satisfied with the end result and would definitely recommend Interlock! This is actually my second roof, I had one installed on a different property 20 years ago and it has held the test of time with virtually no maintenance.
I am writing to share how pleased I am with my Interlock Roof. When the original presentation was made, I knew I was getting a premium roof, but I had no idea the finished product would be so beautiful. I was also quite impressed with the installers. They were pleasant, respectful, conscientious, and courteous. As you may recall, my ">roof was one that required the old roof be removed because the original roof was wood shakes which were covered by at least 3 layers of asphalt. Those men gave 110% each and every day of the 14 days it took them to remove the original roof, replace it with plywood, and then install the Interlock roof. Many of those days were very " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot and humid, but that didn't seem to have any effect on them. They would work from early in the morning until after 6 or 7 PM, always cleaning the yard before they left for the day. It amazed me that they were so thorough in their cleanup each day that I could have used my yard for entertaining in the evening. I would encourage anyone with questions about whether Interlock delivers what they promise to contact me directly. I would be more than happy to answer questions by phone or in person, if someone wants to schedule a time to come by the house. Interlock stood by their commitment to insure I was satisfied with the work and end product. Choosing Interlock was a decision I'm glad I made. Thanks again!
I just wanted to take a moment to commend Interlock on a great product and thank you personally for your follow through after installation. I am pleased with the roof overall because it's good looking and works well. I get compliments about the new roof frequently. The description you provided of what to expect from beginning to end and what was delivered was consistent. This is such a simple thing to do but a surprising number of companies simply don't execute on their promises so I was pleased with the end result Interlock provided. The crew that removed my old roof and installed the new one was courteous and professional. They did a good job of cleaning up the job site each day and obviously take pride in their work. The only thing I would say was a drawback is that I had filled out the customer satisfaction survey before the dumpster was removed from my front yard. After the dumpster was removed I discovered two long indentations on my front lawn over a foot deep caused by the weight of the fully loaded dumpster. When I called you about it, you said you would correct it and now it has been corrected. This sort of customer service is what really separates companies that are in it for the long haul. I appreciate your follow up and the fact that you were able to correct the only item where I was not completely satisfied. I recommend Interlock to anyone considering a roof replacement based on the merits of the product alone. I had done a good amount of research in Consumer Reports on the longevity of different roof types as you know so there was no question in my mind that I wanted a metal roof but I didn't know how nice the end result would turn out. Your product combined with outstanding customer service is an unmatched offering. Consider me a reference for other potential customers curious about the experience they had with Interlock
This letter has been a long time in coming. My husband and I had an Interlock Roof installed in November 2009 and have been meaning to tell you how pleased we are with the look of the new roof and the service provided by the installers ~ Nazaar and Vitality. We’ve gotten many questions and compliments from friends, neighbors and passersby. Both our home and detached garage needed to be re-roofed, with both requiring removal of the old roofing material and the installation of plywood before applying the Interlock product. We were originally told that it would take up to 2 weeks for the job to be completed. To our amazement, the job was completed within a week’s time and that included inclement weather! Nazaar and Vitaliy put in very long days, were very polite, honored their commitments and ALWAYS cleaned everything up before they left for the day. We have children and a dog and found not one nail in the yard after the job was completed. Based on this experience and a product that speaks for itself, we would definitely recommend an Interlock Roof!
Dear Interlock: I am writing to tell you how delighted I am with my new Interlock roof. The dark red color complements the historic features of this 1870 house, and the material is most appropriate for a house of this vintage. I also want you to know how pleased I am with the job that the installer did. The foreman. Rick Ortiz, and his workers, Wilden Perez, Juan Carlos Cordero, and Ruben Alvarenda, were a pleasure to work with. I didn't realize until I watched them work how complicated my roof is, with all its intersecting dormers, porches, hidden valleys and bay windows. They worked very skillfully and carefully to waterproof all these vulnerable edges, and did an excellent job. They were especially neat, cleaning up each day and overall at the end. Thank you Interlock for a great job!
I had my roof done by Interlock Roofing and I want to say that it is very good. The snow does not stay on the roof. This winter I look at other homes in my neighborhood and found that my roof was the first to be free of snow! I am happy about that. Many people have asked about roof They like the way it looks, so they stop to see what kind it is. All I can say is "It Works for Me!"
My husband and I would like to commend you, your organization, and the workers hired to install our new roof. We are not only delighted with how it has enhanced the look of our property, but also how it has helped with our heating costs this winter. Everything you told us at the time of the sale has come true: It certainly has enhanced the look of our property - we get people stopping to look and question almost every day, It was completed on time by workers who were not only fast, but quite meticulous with the work they performed. We will be receiving a $5OO check within two weeks to reward us for keeping an Interlock sign on our property which promoted the sale of another roof to a neighbor. Your continuous contact during and after to ensure our satisfaction. Again, Thanks

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Plainville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Plainville, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Plainville.
Will a metal roof hold up to Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Plainville experiences about 72 freeze-thaw days per year, and because aluminum contains no iron, it cannot rust or corrode as the temperature swings from below freezing to above. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly, and its self-healing oxide layer protects against moisture penetration during the cycling. The four-way interlocking panels also move as a unified system, preventing the panel separation that plagues traditional materials in repeated freeze-thaw stress.
How does an Interlock metal roof perform under Plainville's snow load?
Connecticut's average 65 cm of snow per year slides cleanly off the smooth metal surface—metal naturally sheds snow better than asphalt or wood shakes, reducing ice dam formation. The panels are engineered to handle regional snow loads per ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025). Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control drift. Because Interlock panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile, your home's structure needs no reinforcement, and the roof installs directly over most existing asphalt without additional framing—a major advantage over slate or concrete tile, which would require structural upgrades.
With 1,200+ mm of rain yearly, how does Interlock prevent leaks?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a mechanical seal that sheds Plainville's approximately 1,232 mm of annual rainfall without relying on sealants or adhesives. Water cannot pool in the valleys between panels because the interlocking geometry forces it to the edges and into gutters. When installed to specification over solid decking with standard underlayment—as Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has done since 1999—the system functions identically to asphalt shingles in heavy rain. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty explicitly covers water intrusion, giving you direct recourse if installation is performed correctly.
Can Interlock withstand Plainville's wind gusts?
Yes. Plainville's typical gusts reach 126 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system creates mechanical engagement between adjacent panels—no fastener pulls loose from wind pressure alone. This design is why Interlock has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating ensures the panels maintain structural integrity under the combined stress of wind, hail, and freeze-thaw cycles typical of Hartford County.
Why choose aluminum over steel metal roofing in a climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; the element that oxidizes in steel. Plainville's humid climate and seasonal moisture cycling accelerate rust in steel roofing, but aluminum's oxide layer—microscopically thin and self-healing—blocks corrosion even after scratches. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM D4214 and D2244), an extra layer of defense in humid regions. This is why Interlock panels installed since 1998 have outlasted three generations of asphalt shingles without rust or rot.
Does Interlock's hail rating affect homeowner insurance in Connecticut?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this rating and offer discounts on metal roofs, particularly in regions prone to severe weather. Plainville's ~19 km/h typical daily winds with gusts to 126 km/h sometimes accompany hail, and the Class 4 rating ensures your roof survives impacts that would crack or split asphalt shingles or traditional tile. Contact your insurer with Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) and UL listing to request a quote comparison—documented impact resistance often translates to lower premiums over a 50-year roof life.
Can I install a metal tile roof over my existing house without reinforcing the structure?
Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed. Most existing asphalt roofs can support the upgrade directly. This is a decisive advantage in older Plainville homes: you avoid the cost and disruption of framing upgrades that slate or traditional tile would require. Combined with the non-prorated lifetime limited warranty, installing over your existing roof means no tear-off, no dumpster rental, and no landfill waste—just a new roof that performs in your region's 65 cm annual snowfall and 72 freeze-thaw days without stressing your rafters.
Is a metal roof a good investment compared to asphalt over 40 or 50 years?
Over the roof's lifetime, metal wins on total cost. Asphalt shingles typically require replacement every 15–20 years; across 50 years, that's three or four roofing projects, each with tear-off labor, disposal fees, and reinstallation. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner—transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion—eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. Regional financing offers (no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off) lower the upfront barrier. When you factor Plainville's 1,232 mm annual rain and 65 cm snow, asphalt deteriorates faster; metal's zero rust and self-healing oxide layer compress total maintenance cost dramatically over five decades.
Do metal roof reflective coatings reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve up to 0.55 solar reflectance (measured in the Aged Copper Penny profile) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, meaning the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Plainville receives approximately 3,134 sunshine hours per year—significant enough that summer heat gain adds measurable cooling load. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification quantifies this benefit, and many utilities offer rebates for metal roofs with documented reflectance. Over a 50-year warranty term in a region with real seasonal sun exposure, the energy savings compound. Combined with no tear-off waste, energy-efficiency compliance makes Interlock a CALGreen-verified option for reduced maintenance and resource consumption.
What makes Interlock's Guardian Warranty different from typical roofing warranties?
The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and transferable—a one-time transfer to the next owner, who receives 50 years of protection from completion date. This eliminates the prorated-coverage trap where typical warranties pay out less as the roof ages. Interlock covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—failures that asphalt, wood, and traditional tile all experience. Because aluminum manufactured to ASTM B209 cannot rust and Plainville's 72 annual freeze-thaw days won't crack or curl a properly installed metal panel, the warranty reflects the product's actual lifespan, not planned obsolescence. The 30-year coating warranty (Alunar PVDF) separately protects finish integrity across decades of 1,232 mm annual rainfall and humid conditions.
