| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mount Vernon
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mount Vernon, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mount Vernon.
How does a metal roof handle Mount Vernon's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams better. Mount Vernon gets about 154 cm of snow annually, and that weight distributes across your roof without structural strain—Interlock panels weigh only 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile, compared to 50+ lb/sq ft for slate or tile. The four-way interlocking seams stay sealed through Maine's roughly 90 freeze-thaw cycles each year, preventing water infiltration on the thaw. Adding snow guards is straightforward if you want to control runoff onto walkways.
Will Mount Vernon's freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?
No—aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycling because it has no moisture absorption and expands uniformly with temperature swings. With about 90 freeze-thaw days per year in Kennebec County, this matters: materials like asphalt, wood, and concrete crack and cup as they absorb and release moisture, but aluminum oxide's self-healing layer protects the metal itself. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy with its dual-side Alunar coating (30-year fade/chalk warranty) won't split, curl, or rot—the Guardian Warranty specifically covers those failures, and you keep that coverage for life as the original owner.
Can aluminum roofing rust like steel roofing can?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for Maine's wet climate where annual rainfall reaches 948 mm. Steel roofing rusts and requires regular touch-ups; aluminum doesn't. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds 30 years of protection against saltwater environments and chemical exposure, which is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998.
Do four-way interlocking metal panels really resist Maine's wind gusts?
Yes—the four-way interlock eliminates weak points where wind can lift panels. Mount Vernon experiences typical daily-max winds around 17 km/h with gusts reaching 117 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The overlapping seams on all four sides of each panel lock together and distribute wind load evenly, preventing the panel flutter or lifting that can happen with single-lock or exposed-fastener designs. That performance is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 building code evaluation.
What hail rating does Interlock metal roofing have, and does it affect insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This proven impact resistance sometimes qualifies homeowners for homeowners insurance discounts because underwriters recognize that metal roofing resists damage that totals asphalt roofs. You'll want to ask your insurer about those discounts when you get a quote; many Maine insurers offer them for Class 4 rated roofs. The durability also means fewer claims over the life of your roof.
Is a metal roof worth the cost in Maine?
An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt, but you're buying your last roof—not your next one. Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years; the Guardian Warranty gives you a lifetime limited material warranty as the original owner, plus one transfer of 50 years to the next owner. Over 50 years, the math tilts strongly toward metal. You avoid multiple tear-offs (landfill fees, labor costs, and roofing cycles), you skip the maintenance that asphalt demands, and your energy costs drop because energy-efficient colors reflect heat instead of absorbing it like dark asphalt does. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Can an energy-efficiency metal roof actually save money on cooling in a Maine summer?
Yes—reflective metal roofing reduces the cooling load on your home by bouncing solar heat away instead of absorbing it. Mount Vernon receives about 3015 sunshine hours per year, and on hot days, this matters even in Maine. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), measured to Cool Roof Rating Council standards. That means your attic stays cooler, your AC (or fans) work less, and you save on utility bills. The lighter colors in particular avoid the heat buildup that turns dark asphalt into a radiant furnace in July.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no seasonal inspections, no granule tracking, no wood treatment, no moss removal cycles. Asphalt shingles shed granules and attract moss in Maine's 948 mm of annual rainfall; wood shakes need fungicide and re-sealing every few years; slate and tile crack or spall through freeze-thaw cycles. Aluminum won't split, rot, or lose impact resistance. You might rinse debris off after storms, but that's it. The CALGreen building standard specifically rates metal roofing as verified for reduced maintenance, which also means lower long-term ownership costs and fewer climbing-on-the-roof emergencies.
Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Your existing structure almost certainly can handle it—metal is extraordinarily light. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, which looks like heavy clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and installs at roughly 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile. This lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed, and you can install metal panels directly over most existing asphalt or wood roofing, eliminating costly tear-off labor. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has been installing over existing roofs throughout the region since 1999 and can assess your specific framing during a site visit—but in the vast majority of Mount Vernon homes, the answer is yes.
Is aluminum metal roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt?
Yes—aluminum breaks the landfill cycle. Asphalt shingles are single-use: tear them off every 15–20 years and haul them to the landfill. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and aluminum retains its value for recycling. Over a 50-year period, you eliminate multiple tear-offs and their associated waste streams, construction debris, and disposal costs. The lifetime limited warranty means your roof doesn't end up in a landfill; it either lasts for you or transfers to the next owner for decades more. Given Mount Vernon's 948 mm annual rainfall and 154 cm of snow, durability directly reduces environmental impact—fewer replacements, less extraction and manufacturing.
