| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wayne
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wayne, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wayne.
How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more reliably than asphalt shingles, and the metal expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or curling—critical in Wayne, where you average about 154 cm of snow annually and roughly 90 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels remain sealed through these cycles because aluminum doesn't absorb moisture the way wood or asphalt does. Optional snow guards keep larger accumulations in place if you prefer. The lightweight profile (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural strain, so your roof performs year after year without the degradation that heavier materials experience under freeze-thaw stress.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a naturally occurring oxide layer that protects the underlying metal; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals. Our roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is paired with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Wayne's moist climate with 948 mm annual rainfall, this dual-layer defense means zero rust risk—your roof won't deteriorate the way steel would, even if the finish ever sustains minor damage.
Can a metal roof withstand Maine's wind gusts and coastal-like conditions?
Yes. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Wayne's typical gusts around 117 km/h. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that doesn't lift or separate. We've installed these roofs from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, so the Alunar coating and aluminum core handle harsh, moisture-laden wind exposure reliably. Your roof will stay secure even during the strongest seasonal storms this region experiences.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—despite its authentic appearance—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs can support this weight without any modification, so you avoid the cost and complexity of structural upgrades. This is especially valuable in Wayne, where many homes were built decades ago; lighter roofing lets you upgrade to a lasting material without major construction work, and installation happens faster because we can often install directly over your existing roof.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—issues that plague asphalt and wood roofs. It's also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of protection from completion, which boosts resale value. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 tested), you're looking at a roof that lasts generations without the tear-off-and-landfill cycle every 15–25 years. In Wayne's freeze-thaw environment, this durability means you genuinely install once and move on.
How does heavy rainfall affect metal roof leaks and water management?
Heavy rainfall won't cause leaks if the roof is installed to spec; the four-way interlocking seams shed water reliably, even under Wayne's 948 mm annual precipitation. Water simply flows downslope—it doesn't pool or penetrate the locks. Unlike asphalt shingles, which can develop pinhole leaks after years of weathering, or wood shakes, which rot and allow water to wick behind them, aluminum panels maintain their integrity through decades of downpours. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the design meets IBC/IRC standards for water shedding. Proper installation and underlayment (which you should always use) make leaking virtually impossible.
Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance or damage from hail?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts; you'll want to ask your agent when you upgrade. Aluminum's hardness and flexibility absorb impact without cracking like asphalt or tile does, so you avoid the expensive insurance claims, deductibles, and hassle of storm damage. In a state where severe weather is part of the climate, choosing a Class 4-rated roof is genuine risk reduction.
Is an Interlock metal roof fire-resistant?
Aluminum is non-combustible, and Interlock offers a Class A fire rating—the highest classification—because the metal itself will not ignite or spread flame. This meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards and qualifies your roof as a fire-resistant building component. If wildfire or neighbor-related fire risk concerns you, or if your insurance company offers premium reductions for Class A roofs, this non-combustible design pays dividends. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and safety, so you're also checking a green-building box if you plan to sell in Maine's increasingly eco-conscious market.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce air-conditioning costs in summer?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. This means the roof reflects heat that asphalt shingles absorb and re-radiate into your home. With Wayne averaging about 3015 sunshine hours per year, even a modest reduction in cooling load adds up over decades. Metal roofs don't carry the thermal mass penalty of tile or slate, so you get the reflective benefit without the heat soak. Summer cooling savings, combined with your long-term ownership, make the energy performance a genuine return on investment.
Are metal roofs recycled, and do they reduce landfill waste?
Aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, so the material cycles back into production rather than sitting in a landfill. This ends the asphalt tear-off-and-discard cycle that most Maine homeowners face every 15–25 years. Over a 50-year period, choosing a single metal roof avoids the environmental cost of multiple asphalt replacements, manufacturing waste, and transportation. Because Interlock roofs last so long—backed by a transferable 50-year warranty—you genuinely reduce your home's environmental footprint. If resale appeal matters, many buyers now factor sustainability into their decision, so this durability-driven approach pays both ecologically and financially.
