Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Monmouth Center, Maine
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Monmouth Center
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Monmouth Center, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Monmouth Center.
How does a metal roof handle Monmouth Center's heavy snow and ice?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion and ice dam formation. Monmouth Center receives about 154 cm of snow annually across roughly 90 freeze-thaw cycles, conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles but don't degrade aluminum—the metal's oxide layer self-heals when scratched by ice movement. Interlock installs snow guards where needed to manage avalanche risk on steeper pitches. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement, so the roof handles Maine's snowpack without additional framing costs.
Will a metal roof survive Maine's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum is immune to the cracking, curling, and splitting that destroy asphalt and wood shingles in freeze-thaw environments. Monmouth Center experiences about 90 freeze-thaw days per year, where water enters asphalt, freezes, expands, and breaks the binder. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without trapping moisture, and the roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) maintains its impact resistance across temperature swings. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking, curling, and splitting—all common freeze-thaw failures in this climate. After 25+ years of installations from coastal salt-air to Antarctic research stations, Interlock's track record is the proof.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Maine's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a protective oxide layer that actually strengthens over time and self-heals when scratched. Steel roofing rusts and requires protective coatings; once compromised, rust accelerates. Monmouth Center's 948 mm annual rainfall and coastal proximity create conditions where steel deteriorates, but aluminum is chemically stable in these environments. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating (applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking) adds extra protection, particularly valuable in salt-air zones. This is why Interlock has installed panels from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations without corrosion failures.
How safe is a metal roof in Maine windstorms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Monmouth Center's typical gust speeds of about 117 km/h. The interlocking design distributes wind loads across the entire panel assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. Ice-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms structural compliance with IBC/IRC codes. Because the panels are extraordinarily light—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—wind uplift forces are minimized. Homeowners with existing roofs avoid tear-off costs: Interlock installs directly over most existing materials, creating a unified, rigid system.
Does metal roofing handle hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's hardness and flexibility absorb impact energy without cracking like slate or shattering like tile. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofing in hail-prone regions; speak with your agent about Interlock's certification. Aluminum also resists wind-driven rain (Monmouth Center averages 948 mm annually), so the combination of impact resistance and water-shedding design protects against compound weather damage. This durability translates to lower claims frequency.
Will heavy rain leak through the seams of a metal roof?
No—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create continuous mechanical barriers that shed water before it reaches fasteners or seams. The lap-and-lock design directs 948 mm of Monmouth Center's annual rainfall downslope; water doesn't pool or seep sideways into joints. Installation over a solid deck and synthetic underlayment (standard practice with Interlock) adds a secondary leak barrier. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms design compliance with water management codes. Many homeowners report that metal roofs are as dry inside as asphalt, with the added benefit that the metal surface won't absorb moisture and rot like wood or degrade like asphalt when exposed to freeze-thaw cycles.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?
Aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft (about 96% lighter than actual tile). This lightness means most homes need zero structural reinforcement. Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt, wood, or composition roofing, eliminating tear-off labor and disposal costs. Even a typical 2000 sq ft roof weighs less than 1200 pounds total—comparable to a few occupants and stored items in an attic. This is why Interlock has installed Tile profiles on homes originally framed for light asphalt shingles. Structural upgrade costs that plague real tile or slate don't apply here.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes—Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and never enters the landfill cycle. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are replaced every 15–25 years and accumulate in landfills indefinitely. Over a 50+ year lifespan, one metal roof eliminates the tear-off and disposal of 2–3 asphalt roofs. Monmouth Center's 3015 sunshine hours annually support metal's long-term durability, reducing replacement frequency. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner, so a single installation may shelter two generations. Aluminum's recyclability at end-of-life closes the loop: old panels become new ones rather than waste.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's lifetime, aluminum is typically cheaper because asphalt is replaced every 15–25 years while Interlock lasts 50+ years with no material replacement costs. Factor in removal, disposal, and reinstallation labor for two or three asphalt cycles, plus inflation, and the total cost of ownership favors metal. The Guardian warranty (lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner, 50-year transfer) means you're buying predictability: no surprise failures in year 20. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation removes the upfront barrier. A metal roof is the last roof you buy, a fact that simplifies long-term home finances and appeals to resale buyers.
