Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Randolph Village, Maine
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Randolph Village
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Randolph Village, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Randolph Village.
How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow and ice?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice efficiently because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice dam formation that traps moisture on asphalt. Randolph Village receives about 130 cm of snow annually, and the 86 freeze-thaw cycles per year make this critical—ice dams cause leaks by blocking drainage on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels (ESR-1790 rated) stay watertight under snow load. Optional snow guards are available if you want to control snow discharge for safety or aesthetic reasons.
Why does freeze-thaw damage matter for my roof material choice?
Freeze-thaw cycling cracks asphalt shingles and splits wood—Randolph Village experiences roughly 86 freeze-thaw days yearly. Aluminum has no grain or fiber to split; its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and it expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is designed for exactly this climate stress. After 27 years of installation across North America's harshest regions, Interlock's panels still perform flawlessly through these cycles.
Is aluminum roofing really rust-proof, or does salt air affect it?
Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, so oxidation produces a protective, self-healing oxide layer, not rust. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), offering extra insurance in salt-air environments. Interlock has installed roofs from coastal British Columbia to Antarctic research stations. In Randolph Village's 1022 mm annual rainfall and 18 km/h typical winds, the dual-sided coating ensures decades of corrosion-free performance without maintenance.
Can my house handle a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?
Your house almost certainly needs no reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—it installs at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft. Even the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft. This extraordinary lightness means Interlock metal roofing installs directly over your existing asphalt roof in most cases, eliminating costly tear-off labor. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms compatibility with standard residential framing across Maine's snow and wind loads.
How well does a metal roof resist Maine wind and storms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Randolph Village experiences typical gusts around 129 km/h, well within this rating. The mechanical four-point interlock prevents panel separation in severe weather, and the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating confirms the same impact-resistant engineering that handles wind stress. Since 1998, Interlock has withstood nor'easters and regional storms without panel failure.
Does a metal roof reduce hail damage and insurance costs?
Interlock holds the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofing because impact resistance directly reduces claims. Maine's freeze-thaw severity (86 days per year) compounds hail risk on softer materials; aluminum's hardness resists both. Ask your insurer about discounts when switching to Interlock; some homeowners recover installation costs through lower premiums over 10 years.
Will a metal roof help me save on heating and cooling in Maine?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. Though Randolph Village's mean temperature is cool at 8.6°C, the 3085 annual sunshine hours mean summer gains matter—lighter colors reduce cooling loads. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings. Metal roofing won't transform heating costs in Maine's climate, but paired with proper attic ventilation, it moderates internal temperature swings during the frequent freeze-thaw cycles.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none. Asphalt requires annual inspection and often gutter clearing after storms; wood shake demands professional treatment against rot and insects; metal requires only occasional visual inspection. Interlock's hard, smooth surface sheds debris naturally; 1022 mm of annual rainfall cleans it. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The 30-year coating warranty and lifetime limited material warranty mean no re-coating, re-sealing, or replacement of failed sections—you inspect once yearly and move on.
Is a metal roof really more eco-friendly than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life and can be recycled indefinitely without degradation. Asphalt shingles generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually because they cannot be recycled after installation. Over Randolph Village's 130 cm annual snowfall and heavy freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years before tear-off. Interlock's lifetime transfer warranty (50 years to the second owner) means one installation may never be removed. Choosing metal eliminates decades of tear-off cycles and replaces them with a single, fully recyclable material.
Who installs Interlock roofing in the Randolph Village area?

They understand Maine's climate demands—130 cm snow, 86 freeze-thaw days, and gusts to 129 km/h—and install to specification for maximum wind resistance and longevity. Currently, they offer no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
