| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.

Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Whitefield
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Whitefield, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Whitefield.
How does a metal roof handle Whitefield's 126 cm of snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal's smooth, slippery surface naturally sheds snow and ice rather than holding it like asphalt—critical when you're facing about 85 freeze-thaw days per year where water gets into cracks and splits shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind, so the snow load that does accumulate won't loosen panels. The aluminum won't crack, curl, or split under the repeated wet-freeze stress that degrades wood and asphalt over Whitefield winters. Add snow guards if you prefer controlled shedding, but the material itself thrives in this climate.
Why does aluminum never rust like steel roofing, and does that matter in Maine?
Aluminum contains no iron, so chemically it cannot rust; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that seals scratches automatically. Steel roofing corrodes from the inside out once that protective coating fails—especially in salt-air regions and freeze-thaw climates like Lincoln County. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum coated with Alunar 70% PVDF on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading. Over your roof's 50-year lifespan (or longer), you avoid the rust blooming and panel failure that claims steel roofs in wet, freezing climates.
Does aluminum hold up to Maine's constant freeze-thaw cycling?
Yes—aluminum's molecular structure doesn't weaken from repeated freezing and thawing, unlike asphalt, wood, or concrete. With about 85 freeze-thaw days annually in Whitefield plus 1039 mm of rain, your roof gets hammered by water infiltration cycles. Asphalt shingles absorb moisture, crack when frozen, and leak within 15–20 years. Interlock's aluminum panels shed water immediately and won't absorb it; the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the material maintains integrity through this stress. This is why Interlock has installed panels from coastal salt-air homes all the way to Antarctic research stations—freeze-thaw is literally what aluminum was designed to survive.
Can a metal roof withstand Maine wind gusts in Whitefield?
Whitefield sees typical wind gusts around 168 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist 120 mph (193 km/h) winds when installed to spec. Those interlocks tie each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind can't peel a single sheet free—it would have to unzip the entire roof system simultaneously. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, blow off one at a time, starting at the edges. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers wind damage up to that 120 mph threshold, so you're protected against the peak gusts your region actually experiences.
Does Interlock's metal roof rating help with hail damage and insurance?
Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this and offer discounts on metal roofs, especially in hail-prone regions. Even if Whitefield isn't a heavy hail zone, the impact rating means your roof won't dent or perforate in severe weather when asphalt would be shredded and wood shake cracked. Check with your agent about potential premium reductions; Class 4 rating often qualifies. Over a 30–50 year ownership, those discounts add real savings.
With 1039 mm of rain per year, how does a metal roof stay leak-free?
Whitefield receives roughly 1039 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's interlocking panels shed every drop without pooling. The four-way interlocks create continuous lap seals that direct water downslope; you're not relying on sealant or adhesive to stay watertight. The system is installed over solid decking with underlayment, just like asphalt, so there's a second line of defense against the rare leak. Aluminum doesn't rot or degrade under persistent moisture, so even if water somehow penetrated past the panels, the material itself won't weaken—unlike wood shake or asphalt, which absorb water and fail from inside out.
Does my house need structural work to support a metal roof?
No. Interlock's Slate and Shingle profiles install at roughly 0.41–0.58 lb per square foot; the Mediterranean Tile is about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile despite looking identical. Most Whitefield homes can handle metal over existing asphalt without reinforcement—you're actually removing weight or replacing shingle with something far lighter. This matters when your only other option was ripping off old material and adding steel-frame support. Interlock can install directly over most existing roofs, saving money and days of labor. Lighter panels also mean easier replacement if one section is damaged.
Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles over time?
Asphalt costs less upfront but needs replacement every 15–25 years in your climate, where 126 cm of snow, 1039 mm of rain, and 85 freeze-thaw days accelerate aging. A metal roof with The Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, one-time transferable for 50 years to the next owner) is your last roof purchase. Factor in zero maintenance, no leaks, no insurance claims, and decades without calling a roofer, and the monthly cost per year drops below asphalt. Current promotion runs through Spring 2027: no payments and no interest, or 10% off installation. Over 40–50 years, one metal roof beats two or three asphalt roofs hands down.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Almost none. Asphalt shingles need yearly inspection for curling, cracking, and moss, plus moss treatment in damp climates. Wood shake splits and warps constantly in freeze-thaw cycles. Tile cracks or breaks. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: rinse with a hose twice yearly if desired, and you're done. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 standard), so no paint or sealant reapplication. Over Whitefield's typical 3076 sunshine hours per year, the coating stays stable. You'll spend more time maintaining gutters than the roof itself—a major reason metal roofing cuts your overall home maintenance burden.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than tearing off asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 20 years. Each time an asphalt roof is replaced, thousands of pounds of shingles go to landfills; a metal roof on your house prevents that waste stream entirely. Interlock installs over existing roofs in most cases, so no tearoff disposal is needed at all. When an Interlock roof does reach end of life—decades from now—the aluminum goes to a scrap yard, not a dump. energy-efficient colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity also reflect heat, reducing cooling demand. For a homeowner who values reducing landfill impact and lasting material efficiency, aluminum is the honest choice.
