| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Jefferson
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Jefferson, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Jefferson.
How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents ice damming — crucial in Jefferson where you get about 126 cm of snow annually and experience roughly 85 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are rated to handle UL 2218 Class 4 hail and resist wind gusts up to 168 km/h, so the structural integrity that keeps snow load from pooling stays intact season after season. Snow guards are available if you want to control avalanche patterns, but the roof itself won't deteriorate from the constant thaw-refreeze cycle that degrades asphalt in 15–20 years.
Why doesn't freeze-thaw damage aluminum the way it damages wood or asphalt?
Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so ice can't form inside the material and crack it apart like it does asphalt or wood shingles. Your roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is solid metal — there are no pores or voids to trap moisture. With 126 cm of average annual snowfall and 85 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Jefferson, this matters enormously: while an asphalt roof develops stress fractures and curling within a decade of that treatment, an aluminum roof simply sheds the water and remains intact. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, waranted 30 years against chalk and fade, provides an additional weathering barrier that outlasts the seasonal punishment.
If I live near salt air or in a wet climate, won't a metal roof rust?
No — aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When aluminum oxidizes in air or moisture, it forms a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and heals itself when scratched. The Alunar finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating warranted 30 years, giving you two independent layers of protection. In Jefferson's ~1039 mm annual rainfall and moist coastal climate, this dual-layer approach means your roof stays protected through the wet season and beyond. Steel roofing, by contrast, will rust through if the coating is breached; aluminum won't.
Are metal roofs safe in high winds, or will they blow off?
Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification — well above Jefferson's typical gust speeds of 168 km/h. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. Gusts in that range happen here, but the interlocking design has been proven in coastal installations and Antarctic research stations where extreme wind is constant. Your roof won't come loose or peel away during the storms Maine throws at it.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's lightest profile, the Cedar Shingle, installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft — so light that most existing roof structures handle it without any modification. Even the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy ceramic tile, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile. This means you can install metal roofing over most existing roofs without tearing off the old materials or adding framing, saving thousands in labor and disposal costs. Your home's structure was already built to carry roofing; aluminum simply uses far less of that capacity.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Your metal roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof resists damage that would destroy asphalt shingles. Many insurers recognize this and offer premium discounts on metal roofing with impact ratings; contact your agent with the UL rating to discuss what your policy qualifies for. In Maine's hail-prone seasons, this protection gives you peace of mind and can lower your annual premium, offsetting some of the roofing cost.
Will a metal roof help with cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it — the reflectance can reach up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile) with thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning less heat transfers into your home. In Jefferson, with about 3076 sunshine hours per year, that reflection cuts cooling demand significantly, especially on south-facing slopes. Cool Roof Rating Council certification backs these numbers. The reflection doesn't eliminate your air conditioning load, but it reduces the hours your system runs during warm months, lowering electricity use and summer utility bills. The effect compounds over a 50-year roof life.
How long does a metal roof really last, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also transferable once — the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion. That two-tier approach reflects the product's real-world lifespan: Interlock has been manufacturing since 1998 and installing metal roofs in harsh salt-air environments and extreme climates for over 25 years. With 126 cm of annual snow and 85 freeze-thaw cycles, Jefferson's weather is demanding, but aluminum's resistance to moisture absorption and corrosion keeps the roof sound far longer than asphalt or wood ever could.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than traditional roofing?
Yes, significantly. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable, and unlike asphalt shingles — which end up in landfills by the thousands of tons each year — a worn-out metal roof can return to manufacturing as new material. The recycling loop means no mining, no petroleum-based binders, and no decades of decomposition in a dump. Over its 50+ year lifespan, a metal roof also eliminates the environmental cost of multiple tear-offs and replacements. Jefferson gets about 1039 mm of rain and 126 cm of snow yearly, accelerating asphalt degradation and landfill volume; metal roofing breaks that cycle. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance waste as well.
What maintenance does a metal roof need, and how does it compare to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing needs far less maintenance than asphalt or wood shingles. Asphalt deteriorates from sun exposure, requires regular shingle replacement, and its granules wash into gutters. Wood shakes split, curl, and require staining and annual inspection. A metal roof installed on a solid deck with proper underlayment is essentially maintenance-free — wash it occasionally if algae or pollen accumulates, and keep gutters clear, like any roof. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years, resists chalk and fading through Jefferson's 85 annual freeze-thaw cycles and ~1039 mm of rainfall without degrading. You're not painting, sealing, replacing shingles, or fighting rot.
