| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wiscasset
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wiscasset, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wiscasset.
Will a metal roof hold up through Maine's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer self-heals when micro-scratches occur—it doesn't corrode or delaminate like asphalt or wood in freeze-thaw stress. Wiscasset experiences about 85 freeze-thaw days per year; the four-way interlocking design (ESR-1790 rated) accommodates movement without fastener stress or panel separation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains flexible through these cycles and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading under ASTM testing that simulates accelerated weather exposure.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow, and do I need snow guards?
Metal roofing sheds snow efficiently due to its smooth, hard surface and tight interlocks—Wiscasset averages about 126 cm of snow annually. The Interlock panels are extraordinarily light (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58), so they support snow load without structural reinforcement. Snow guards are optional and depend on roof pitch and your local building code; your Interlock installer will advise based on your home's design. The interlocking seams prevent water infiltration even when ice dams form during thaw cycles.
Can a metal roof withstand Wiscasset's coastal wind gusts?
Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Wiscasset's typical gusts reach 168 km/h; the interlocking design distributes wind loads across multiple panels rather than relying on fasteners alone, so gusts within recorded history are handled safely. The panels lock at all four edges, preventing uplift. Your Interlock installer will verify installation torque and underlayment attachment to meet ESR-1790 code compliance for Lincoln County conditions.
What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and can it lower insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant material often qualifies for homeowners insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ESR-1790 code report. Wiscasset's annual hail risk is lower than inland regions, but the durability means no re-roofing after a storm. The lightweight design (Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete tile) means impact energy doesn't transfer structural strain to your home.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light: the Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle at similar weight, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile (which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile) weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than traditional tile. Your existing roof structure is already supporting asphalt shingles; metal roofing weighs far less. Most Interlock installations go directly over your current roof, reducing tear-off labor and landfill impact. Your Interlock installer will verify your deck condition and confirm no reinforcement is required.
Does heavy rainfall cause leaks in metal roofing seams?
No. The four-way interlocking design creates overlapping barriers that shed rain faster than water can pool. Wiscasset receives about 1039 mm of rain annually; the tight panel-to-panel connection (ESR-1790 rated) and proper deck preparation prevent water infiltration at seams. Installed over solid decking with appropriate underlayment, metal roofing performs identically to asphalt in leak resistance. The difference: asphalt degrades under UV and freeze-thaw cycles, opening seams over time; aluminum's oxide layer and Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintain integrity for decades. Fastener holes are sealed during installation to eliminate a common leak point.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles curl, crack, and split—requiring inspection and repair every 3-5 years; wood shakes rot and split in Wiscasset's 85 annual freeze-thaw days and 126 cm snow load. Aluminum panels don't rot, split, crack, or curl. Rinse debris twice yearly; that's it. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. You won't replace individual shingles, seal seams, or repair storm damage. Your only regular task: keeping gutters clear and checking fasteners annually—standard for any roof type.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost over asphalt's lifetime?
Yes, when you calculate total cost of ownership. Asphalt lasts 15-20 years and requires recurring repairs (curling, splitting, fastener corrosion). Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That means your cost is installation only, with no replacement in your ownership. The warranty transfers once (50 years from completion to the next owner), protecting your resale value. Wiscasset's harsh climate (1039 mm rain, 126 cm snow, 85 freeze-thaw days, 168 km/h gusts) accelerates asphalt failure; metal avoids the compounding cost cycle. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Wiscasset, and how long has the company been in Maine?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999, bringing 25+ years of Maine roofing expertise. They handle sales, design, and installation for Wiscasset and Lincoln County. Interlock panels themselves have been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, with proven performance in coastal salt-air environments worldwide. Your local installer understands Wiscasset's snow load, wind gusts, freeze-thaw cycles, and the ESR-1790 code requirements for this region. They'll verify your deck, choose the right profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, or Standing Seam), and install to warranty spec. Contact them for a free inspection and to discuss current financing options.
Is metal roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; metal roofing ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. When you replace an asphalt roof, shingles go to the landfill; at the end of a metal roof's life (well beyond your ownership), the panels go to aluminum recycling streams where they're melted down infinitely without quality loss. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, a material designed for durability and recyclability. Over Wiscasset's 126 cm annual snowfall and 1039 mm rain, a metal roof outlasts asphalt by 50+ years—meaning fewer installations, fewer tear-offs, and less landfill impact per century of protection.
