| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Phippsburg Center
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Phippsburg Center, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Phippsburg Center.
How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently due to their smooth, hard surface and can be fitted with snow guards to control release on steep pitches. Phippsburg Center averages about 130 cm of snow yearly, and the lightweight design—the Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural overload even with accumulated snow. The panels themselves resist ice dam formation better than asphalt because aluminum conducts heat evenly; paired with proper ventilation, this minimizes the freeze-thaw cycling that causes leaks. With roughly 86 freeze-thaw days per year in your region, this durability matters.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Sagadahoc County damage my metal roof?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, and the 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is engineered to handle thermal cycling. Your area experiences approximately 86 freeze-thaw days annually, yet aluminum's self-healing oxide layer prevents the micro-cracking and material degradation that plague asphalt shingles and slate in these conditions. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains its integrity through repeated temperature swings. Unlike composite materials, aluminum cannot split, curl, or rot—the core failure modes in Maine's maritime freeze-thaw climate.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, if you plan to stay in your home long-term. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years in Maine's climate; Interlock's aluminum roof carries a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner. Over a 50-year span, you'll replace asphalt two or three times—each replacement including tear-off labor and disposal fees—while your metal roof requires minimal maintenance. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling: failures that don't occur with asphalt anyway. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, lowering the entry barrier. The last roof you buy is the cheapest roof you own.
Can a metal roof withstand Maine's coastal wind gusts?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Phippsburg Center's typical gusts reach about 129 km/h, well within this rating. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together on all edges, distributing lateral forces across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress at fastener points like shingle or standing-seam designs. This redundancy matters in a region where wind events occur regularly. Each panel overlaps its neighbors, creating a continuous, unified structure that performs far better than hinged or loose-lay alternatives. Even in severe gusts, the interlocking geometry keeps your roof intact.
Does a metal roof reduce hail damage and insurance costs?
Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating qualifies for preferred rates or discounts with many insurers, because metal roofs experience significantly fewer costly claims than asphalt or traditional tile. Your insurer may offer premium reductions reflecting lower risk. Aluminum's hardness and flexibility combined prevent the cracking and loss of granules that compromise asphalt during hail events. Since ice events and wind gusts occur frequently in Sagadahoc County, and hail is a possibility, Class 4 impact resistance provides peace of mind that asphalt cannot match. Contact your agent about savings before installation.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering roof surface temperature and reducing cooling load. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance and 0.84 thermal emissivity, keeping more sun's energy away from your interior. Phippsburg Center receives approximately 3085 sunshine hours annually, making reflectivity a genuine advantage during warmer months. Asphalt roofs absorb this energy, radiating it downward into your attic and living spaces; metal roofs bounce it back. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these savings, and energy-efficiency verification means measurable performance. Paired with proper attic ventilation, an Interlock metal roof reduces summer air-conditioning costs compared to dark asphalt.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics the appearance of concrete or clay tile, weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the genuine materials it replicates. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft weighs a fraction of traditional tile. Most existing roof structures easily support this weight; you can install Interlock directly over your current asphalt shingles, eliminating expensive tear-off and structural work. This lightweight advantage is unique to aluminum. Concrete tile requires structural upgrades on many Maine homes; Interlock panels do not. Installation is faster, cheaper, and less disruptive because no framing modifications are needed.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock roofs are maintenance-free compared to asphalt shingles or wood shake. There is no granule loss to monitor, no moss or algae treatment required, no caulking to reapply, and no structural rot to repair. Asphalt demands periodic inspection for lifted shingles, splits, and granule erosion—especially in Maine's 86 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shake requires regular treatment to prevent rot and insect damage. Metal requires only occasional rinsing of debris, which rainwater accomplishes naturally in a region receiving 1022 mm of annual precipitation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), eliminating recoating expenses. You own a roof, not a maintenance project.
Is aluminum roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life; aluminum never loses value and manufacturers readily process scrap for reuse. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually—a one-way waste stream with no recovery. Over a 50-year period, choosing metal means no tear-off waste from multiple asphalt replacements, no transport emissions from repeated installations, and full material recovery when your roof eventually needs recycling. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock meets reduced-maintenance, sustainability standards. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC and installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, the product's durability means you buy it once and keep it for decades. That's environmental responsibility in practice.
Can a new metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. installs metal panels directly over most existing asphalt roofs, eliminating expensive and disruptive tear-off. The lightweight design—as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—poses no structural strain on your existing roof deck. Installation is faster than traditional reroof projects because you're not removing and disposing of old material. A solid deck and proper underlayment ensure rain noise is inaudible (the roof sounds like asphalt, not like a tin can), and ventilation is maintained for thermal performance. Your installer, serving the region since 1999, handles the engineering details to ensure ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance and proper drainage. The entire project is typically completed in days, not weeks.
