| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sebasco Estates
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sebasco Estates, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sebasco Estates.
How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Sebasco Estates gets about 130 cm of snow yearly, and a metal roof handles that load cleanly because the smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt shingles do. Four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together tightly, preventing water infiltration even when ice dams form during the 86 freeze-thaw cycles your area experiences annually. The lightweight design (the Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed—snow sits on a secure, proven platform without stressing your frame. Optional snow guards keep accumulation from sliding off unexpectedly, and the aluminum's strength under winter stress beats wood shake or slate every time.
Why won't aluminum roofing rust in coastal Maine conditions?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it chemically cannot rust—that's the material itself, not a coating trick. When the aluminum oxidizes, it creates a microscopically thin protective layer that actually heals itself when scratched. Sebasco Estates sits in salt-air country where steel roofing fails fast, but Interlock panels are manufactured in Delta, BC and installed on coastal homes worldwide, including Antarctic research stations where corrosion pressure is relentless. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides for salt-air protection) adds another 30-year warranty against any chalking or fading, so your roof stays intact through decades of the moisture and mineral-laden winds your Sagadahoc County location throws at it.
Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or warp a metal roof over time?
No—aluminum's crystalline structure actually becomes more stable under repeated freeze-thaw stress, not weaker. Your area experiences roughly 86 freeze-thaw days per year, a serious test that destroys asphalt shingles and causes wood shake to split and curl. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this punishment; Interlock has manufactured these panels since 1998 and they're still performing flawlessly on homes that have endured decades of Maine winters. The four-way interlocking seams flex slightly without cracking, and the material won't rot, splinter, or lose structural integrity no matter how many times the temperature swings across freezing.
Can a metal roof stay fastened in Maine's coastal wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels warrant wind resistance up to 120 mph, well above the gusts your region typically sees (recorded peaks around 129 km/h, or 80 mph). The interlock mechanism is the secret: each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind has to lift the entire roof system as one piece, not peel individual shingles. Combine that with proper fastening to code (ESR-1790 specifies installation to IBC/IRC standards), and you get a system that flexes slightly but doesn't separate. Sebasco Estates homeowners in exposed locations can sleep through nor'easters knowing their roof is still there come morning.
Does metal roofing hold up to hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's genuine impact durability, not marketing. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions report lower or discounted insurance premiums because Class 4 aluminum doesn't require replacement after impact events that would total asphalt or wood shake. Call your agent with the UL 2218 documentation and your roof's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report; they'll confirm whether your specific location or property qualifies for a break. The material itself won't dent or puncture under normal Maine hailstorms, and even severe impacts rarely require panel replacement.
Can my house's frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural work?
Your frame almost certainly needs no reinforcement. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it actually reduces load compared to what many older homes were built to carry. Even the heavier Shake profile checks in around 0.58 lb/sq ft. You can install Interlock panels directly over most existing asphalt roofs without tearing off the old layer, since the combined weight is still a fraction of real slate or tile. A structural engineer might glance at your plans for completeness, but in practice the biggest change you'll notice is that your roof isn't sagging anymore from years of asphalt weight accumulating in Maine's 1022 mm annual rainfall.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing maintenance is minimal by design: rinse debris off twice yearly and inspect seams after heavy storms—that's genuinely it. Asphalt shingles need moss removal in Maine's damp climate, regular nail popping checks, and tar-binder inspection every 3–5 years. Wood shake splits, curls, and rots in your region's 86 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 130 cm of snow load. Interlock's aluminum doesn't absorb moisture, so no rot risk, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating won't chalks or fade for 30 years, eliminating the cosmetic fading that forces asphalt replacement long before structural failure. Code-verified (ESR-1790) for CALGreen reduced-maintenance credit, so your roof earns recognition while you spend your weekends elsewhere.
Can metal roofing look like traditional slate, cedar shake, or tile on my home?
Five distinct profiles are available: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each profiles manufactured to replicate traditional materials at a fraction of the weight and maintenance. The Standing Seam suits modern architecture and coastal homes; the Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles work on Colonial and Cape Cod styles common in Sagadahoc County. The Mediterranean Tile and Shake bring warmth to period homes without the freeze-thaw cracking that genuine wood or clay endures through 86 annual freeze-thaw days. Each profile maintains authentic shadow lines and texture detail from street view, and finish colors range from aged copper to slate gray, allowing you to match your neighborhood's character while gaining a roof that lasts your lifetime and transfers one more to the next owner.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost?
Metal roofing costs 15–30% more upfront than asphalt, but it's genuinely the last roof your home will need. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Maine's 1022 mm annual rainfall and harsh winters, meaning you'll replace them 3–4 times in 60 years; each tear-off and landfill dumping multiplies labor and waste costs. Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner, eliminating those replacement cycles entirely. Factor in avoided insurance premiums (Class 4 hail rating), energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance), and zero maintenance beyond occasional rinsing, and the total cost of ownership strongly favors aluminum over the roof-every-generation asphalt cycle.
Does Interlock serve Sebasco Estates with local installation and warranty support?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999 and is the factory-authorized installer for Sebasco Estates and surrounding Sagadahoc County. That local presence means faster response to questions, on-site inspections before quotes, and direct accountability—they know the snow load patterns, wind exposure, and salt-air effects that define your area's roofing challenges. The Guardian Warranty is honored through Interlock's network, so claims processing, panel replacement, and service calls happen with a contractor who understands Maine building codes (ESR-1790 compliance), local permitting, and your home's specific needs. Currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, so reach out for a consultation and pricing.
