Review: June 28, 2014Completion: April 9, 2014

We love our new roof. We get tons of compliments. the slate style really matches the style of our house (built in 1690). Carefree for life. Overall, they did an exceptional job and were organized and professional. There was some slight mis-communication initially and I'm not sure where the link in the chain was broken, but it appeared someone was mis-instructed on which skylight to take out, either that, or he couldn't read the plans, but I'm not sure. In the end they remedied the problem. Sales person was very knowledgeable and friendly, but be prepared for him to overwhelm you with info (not a bad thing). We couldn't be happier with the product quality and look. Highly recommend this. They also offer financing which was helpful for us. see comments above questions 3 & 4 Best roof ever for quality and look

From our first meeting with Jonathan, who was professional, authentic and knowledgeable about roofing, we've had a wonderful experience with Interlock Roofing. The installation team was clean, courteous and skilled at their job. The best part is snow slides off the roof and no more leaks in the house. Nothing. it was all great. It was great, easy to set up and we love the look of the roof

I've had an Interlock metal roof on my house and garden shed for two years now. It's absolutely gorgeous. Everyone thinks it's a slate roof! I've had no problems with it. The installation was amazing! A crew of 11 showed up early in the morning and were almost completely done in one day on both buildings. They were so professional. I highly recommend Interlock for both their high quality product and their great people.

Review: March 31, 2003Completion: March 31, 2003

Just a note about the roof we installed in March of 2003. The first thing that we have to say is that the roof looks wonderful; it’s the best one on the street. A neighbor two houses down the street had a new asphalt roof installed shortly after we had our Interlock Roof installed. The neighbor across the street remarked that our roof looked a lot better than the neighbor's. We have had quite a few neighbors stop and ask about the roof and remark how good it looks. Having the chimney flashed with a solid flashing (instead of step flashing) and the ducts matching the roof really makes the roof look finished off. Also, having them put vents on the back which match the roof looks finished off, so they are not noticeable. As far as the workmen and the quality of workmanship, we feel that it was done very professionally. We asked that they not start working until 8:00 am, and they waited until 8:30 am to start. They kept the grounds very clean even when they were stripping the roof. They hung tarps so nothing could or would damage either the house or any plants which are around the house. They were very friendly and courteous. In closing, we are very pleased with the roof and the professionalism of the workers.

Review: November 7, 2017Completion: October 12, 2017

Communication after the job was a bit lacking, when we had a couple of questions about signage left out front. Everything leading up to the project was perfect! We love the look and quality of our new roof. Your process was exceptional, and your staff great to deal with. The job was completed a month ahead of schedule and took half the time that we were expecting. We hope to never have to use the warranty, but should we have to, I’m confident that we will be taken care of. Great job!

I would recommend the Interlock Roofing System to anybody, my friends and neighbors were impressed by how nice my roof looks. The men that installed the roof were very respectful and courteous. I was shocked by how quickly they were able to install the Interlock Roofing System. Not only do I have a beautiful roof now, I have the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty and you can transfer it to a new owner if I ever sell the house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cliff

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cliff, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cliff.

How does a metal roof handle Cliff's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, slippery surface sheds snow and ice before ice dams can form, preventing the water backup that damages asphalt roofs. Cliff receives about 123 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 93 freeze-thaw days per year—cycles that crack and curl asphalt shingles. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so snow load shifts uniformly across the roof without opening seams. Aluminum also expands and contracts minimally with temperature swings, maintaining panel integrity through countless freeze cycles.

Why won't my metal roof rust in Cliff's salty coastal air?

Aluminum roofing cannot rust because the metal contains no iron; rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops an invisible, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. Even if scratched, this oxide reforms automatically—a property that makes aluminum ideal for salt-air environments. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of each panel for extra defense against salt spray, and it carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM standards.

Does freeze-thaw weather in Massachusetts damage metal roofing panels?

No. Aluminum's molecular structure resists the cracking and splitting that plague asphalt and wood roofs in freeze-thaw climates. With about 93 freeze-thaw days yearly in Cliff, traditional materials cycle between expansion and contraction until they fracture; aluminum flexes elastically without permanent deformation. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, and the panels maintain their integrity whether exposed to Cliff's -10°C winter lows or spring thaws.

Can a metal roof survive coastal wind gusts in Cliff?

Yes. Interlock panels are four-way interlocking—each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides—and the roof system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Cliff's typical gust speeds reach about 104 km/h (65 mph), well below the warranty threshold. The four-way mechanical lock prevents uplift and allows wind pressure to distribute across the entire roof rather than concentrating on fasteners. Coastal homeowners from British Columbia to Antarctica rely on this design in high-wind zones.

Will hail damage my metal roof, and can it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing earns a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum's hardness and the panel design distribute impact energy across the roof surface. Because the roof resists hail damage that would puncture or dent asphalt, many insurers offer discounts on homeowner premiums. Request a quote from your insurer mentioning the Class 4 rating to explore savings.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing shingles in Cliff?

Yes. The Interlock Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This light weight means no structural reinforcement is required, and the roof installs directly over most existing asphalt shingles, eliminating the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this installation method meets current building codes.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no granule replacement, no moss treatment, no wood stain renewal. Cliff receives about 1058 mm of rain annually; rainwater naturally cleans aluminum panels without pooling or degradation. Asphalt shingles shed granules into gutters and require periodic replacement; wood shakes split and curl. Interlock aluminum carries a CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance, and The Guardian warranty covers loss of impact resistance—your only obligation is basic gutter clearing.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost in Cliff?

Over a 50-year span, metal roofing typically costs less than two asphalt replacements, eliminates gutter damage from granule washout, and avoids wood-shake repairs. Cliff's 1058 mm annual rainfall accelerates asphalt degradation. A metal roof installed today transfers its remaining warranty to the next owner for up to 50 years total, adding significant resale appeal. Current financing includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—either way, the math favors a permanent roof over recurring replacement cycles.

Do energy-efficiency metal roofs really reduce cooling costs in Massachusetts?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with measured solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—meaning your roof stays cooler and transfers less heat into your home. Cliff receives about 3054 sunshine hours annually; on clear summer days, a reflective metal roof can reduce attic temperatures by 10–20°F compared to dark asphalt. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating backs this performance, lowering air-conditioning demand and utility bills over the roof's lifetime.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Cliff, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999, bringing 25+ years of experience to Nantucket County installations. The company understands local snow loads, salt-air protection, wind exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles that define Cliff's roofing challenges. They manage the installation timeline, ensure ICC-ES code compliance (ESR-1790), apply both sides of the Alunar coating, and back every project with The Guardian lifetime limited warranty. Contact them directly for a site visit and project estimate.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Cliff’s climate?

Yes. Cliff averages about 123 cm of snow, 1058 mm of rain, roughly 93 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 104 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
