What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: November 13, 2017Completion: December 24, 2016

We had vents put on our family room that had no vents and didn't need them because the ceiling inside is directly under the insulated roof. I wish they had asked before they installed the vents. The job was done in the end of December 2016. They left material here on our lawn that would be picked up in spring, which was okay with us. Well, spring came, so we moved the items off the lawn. A strong wind blew the boxes and some of the material around. Again I picked it up and put it just under the roof of a nearby building and called the company. I was told it would be picked up when they were out in our area. The material is still here! Please pick up the leftover material.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bongards

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bongards, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bongards.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice dams?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice faster than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties resist buildup. Bongards receives about 90 cm of snow annually, and the aluminum's oxide layer won't degrade under repeated freeze-thaw stress—the city experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Snow guards can be added if you want to retain snow for insulation or manage runoff direction. The four-way interlocking panels stay watertight even when ice forms at the eaves, preventing the leaks that ridge-backup often causes under asphalt.

Why won't aluminum roofing crack or curl in Minnesota winters?

Aluminum has no iron and cannot rust; its protective oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so freeze-thaw cycling doesn't compromise it. The material expands and contracts uniformly, unlike asphalt shingles that curl or wood that splits after 81 annual freeze-thaw days in Bongards. Interlock panels are manufactured to ASTM B209 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24), which maintains structural integrity through extreme temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against cracking and fading, covering the weathering stress your region receives.

Does a metal roof rust in Minnesota's wet climate?

Steel roofing rusts because iron oxidizes; aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Its oxide layer forms instantly when exposed to air and self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for Carver County's wet climate (about 748 mm rain per year). The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection against moisture and road salt spray. This two-sided coating is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998—the corrosion protection is proven across 25+ years.

Can a metal roof withstand Minnesota wind and ice dam gusts?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Bongards experiences typical gusts around 97 km/h, well within this tolerance. The interlocking design prevents wind from lifting or separating panels, and the lightweight construction (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) reduces structural stress compared to asphalt or tile. This light weight, combined with proper fastening and the panel geometry, means your roof stays secure through spring storms and winter wind events that commonly occur across the region.

Is a metal roof heavy enough to need structural work on an older Bongards home?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Shake and Tile profiles weigh only 0.58–0.59 lb/sq ft, making them about 96% lighter than real slate or clay tile. This means you can install metal roofing over most existing asphalt roofs without upgrades—a significant cost and time savings. The aluminum alloy panels conform to ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (2025 reissue) for residential and commercial buildings, and the lightweight design is explicitly valued in Minnesota where snow loads (about 90 cm annually) compound structural demands. You gain the architectural look of premium materials without the engineering expense.

Will a metal roof reduce my insurance costs after a hail event?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because claims are rare. Contact your agent to see if your policy qualifies for a reduction; the documentation (UL 2218 rating and Guardian Warranty) is straightforward to provide. In Minnesota, where spring hail is a known risk, this durability and warranty coverage can make a meaningful difference in long-term insurance costs, especially over the 25+ year lifespan you'll get from the roof.

What does Interlock's warranty really cover and how long does it last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. If you sell, the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This transferability adds real value in resale. Unlike asphalt shingles needing replacement every 15–20 years, Interlock's aluminum won't degrade from Bongards' 748 mm annual rainfall or 81 freeze-thaw cycles. You're buying a roof you'll never replace and that will transfer intact to the next household, eliminating the tear-off cycle and associated costs.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt over the long term?

Metal costs more upfront but less over time because you buy it once. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in climates like Bongards (81 freeze-thaw cycles, 90 cm snow, 748 mm rain annually), requiring two to three replacements in a 50-year period. Each replacement means labor, haul-away, and disposal—asphalt ends up in landfills. Interlock roofing lasts 25+ years and transfers to the next owner with 50 years of warranty coverage. The math: two asphalt replacements plus original installation versus one metal installation over 50 years favors metal. Add energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) and you recover upfront cost through reduced cooling demand and avoided tear-off expenses.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?

Very little. Metal roofing requires no repairs for rot, splitting, or curling—problems that plague asphalt and wood in freeze-thaw climates like Bongards. The solid deck and underlayment keep debris from sitting and decomposing. Gutters need seasonal clearing just like any roof. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (per ASTM D4214 / D2244), so repainting isn't needed. Unlike slate, cedar, or tile roofing—which demand specialized repairs and re-sealing—Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Over a 25-year lifespan, this translates to fewer service calls, no emergency repairs, and no hidden costs.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Bongards and Carver County?

Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving this region since 2001, with factory-trained expertise in all five profile options: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. The company's 20+ years of local experience means familiarity with Carver County's climate—81 freeze-thaw days annually, about 120 cm snow, and 19 km/h average winds with gusts to 97 km/h. Local installers understand roof slopes, eave details, and snow-guard placement for this specific region. They can assess whether your home qualifies for over-roof installation (no tear-off) and handle the ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance documentation. Working with an established regional installer ensures proper installation and warranty support.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Bongards’s climate?

Yes. Bongards averages about 90 cm of snow, 748 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
