Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in New Germany

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in New Germany, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in New Germany.

How does a metal roof handle New Germany's snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice efficiently because their smooth, hard surface prevents water from pooling—the sealed joints eliminate the ice-dam risk that forms on asphalt when meltwater backs up under shingles. New Germany averages about 90 cm of snow annually with roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, a climate where this shedding design prevents trapped water from re-freezing and splitting roofing material. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control snow release on your property, giving you choice rather than inevitable ice dams.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum's crystalline structure doesn't absorb water, so it cannot freeze and expand the way asphalt or wood fibers do, causing cracking and curling. Your area experiences approximately 81 freeze-thaw days per year—a cycle that tears apart most roofing materials—but aluminum remains chemically unaffected by repeated freezing. The 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209 specification) maintains its structural integrity through decades of winter stress, which is why Interlock panels installed in Antarctic research stations still perform after years in Earth's harshest freeze-thaw environment.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Minnesota's rainy climate?

Rust requires iron; aluminum contains zero iron, so it cannot rust—period. What forms instead is a transparent aluminum oxide layer (Al₂O₃) that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for Carver County's 748 mm annual rainfall. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel (including the underside you never see) adds 30 years of protection against chalking and fading, proven by ASTM D4214 and D2244 testing. Together, these two barriers mean you'll never refinish or worry about rust spreading from a small scratch.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No reinforcement required. The Interlock Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than traditional clay or concrete tile—so your existing framing supports it without modification. By contrast, real slate or tile roofs often demand structural upgrades costing thousands. Interlock installs directly over your existing shingles in most cases, saving you the tearoff and labor. Your home's current structure already handles your region's typical wind gusts (averaging 19 km/h with peaks to 97 km/h), and the light-weight aluminum actually distributes that wind load more efficiently than heavy materials that create stress concentration.

How well does interlocking metal roofing resist Minnesota wind?

Interlock's four-way interlocking design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far above New Germany's recorded gusts (approximately 97 km/h peak). The mechanical interlock between adjacent panels prevents lifting or separation even in extreme wind events. Each panel locks at four sides, distributing wind pressure across the entire system rather than relying on fasteners alone. That design has proven itself in coastal salt-air regions where wind-driven rain and constant air movement test every edge; the same engineering keeps your roof secure through Minnesota's seasonal wind and spring storms.

What's the hail rating, and can it reduce my homeowner's insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—tested by firing 2-inch steel balls at 65 mph onto the installed roof. The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this top-tier rating and offer discounts because aluminum's non-combustible nature and impact resistance lower claim frequency. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 designation; some carriers reduce premiums on metal roofs specifically because their loss history is stronger than asphalt in hail-prone regions.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and is it really transferable?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion date, adding significant resale appeal in Carver County's competitive market. Non-prorated means the full coverage applies year one and year 40; you don't face declining benefits. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244), you're protecting your investment across ownership changes and decades of Minnesota's variable weather.

How long does metal roof installation take, and do I need a tearoff?

Installation typically completes in 2–4 days depending on roof complexity and size. Most homes install Interlock directly over existing asphalt shingles—no tearoff required, saving weeks of debris hauling and labor cost. The lightweight panels (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58) mean crews move faster and with fewer workers than heavy tile or slate installation. Interlock, serving the region since 2001, coordinates scheduling to minimize disruption. If your current roof is compromised or you want a clean slate, tearoff and new deck installation are options, but the direct-install path gets your new roof protecting your home faster and cheaper.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles that require periodic inspection and replacement after 15–20 years, or wood that needs staining and moss removal, Interlock metal requires no re-coating, no sealant renewal, and no structural repair. After 748 mm of annual rainfall and roughly 3,163 sunshine hours per year in your region, rain cleans the surface naturally and the Alunar® 70% PVDF finish resists fading and chalking for 30 years. Inspect gutters and flashings annually (good practice for any roof), but the panel system itself operates maintenance-free. That's why CALGreen verification highlights reduced maintenance as a core sustainability benefit.

Is metal roofing cheaper than asphalt over the lifetime of the roof?

Yes, when calculated over 40–50 years. Asphalt costs less upfront but requires replacement roughly every 15–20 years, compounding labor, tearoff, and landfill fees with each cycle. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime warranty means you buy once, never tear off, and avoid the asphalt-to-landfill cycle entirely—approximately 95% recyclable aluminum at end of life. Over five decades, the energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance, 0.84 emissivity) reduce cooling costs in summer. Add the 50-year transferable warranty boost to resale value, and one roof outlasts three asphalt cycles while costing less in total expenditure and environmental impact.
