What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: November 13, 2017Completion: December 24, 2016

We had vents put on our family room that had no vents and didn't need them because the ceiling inside is directly under the insulated roof. I wish they had asked before they installed the vents. The job was done in the end of December 2016. They left material here on our lawn that would be picked up in spring, which was okay with us. Well, spring came, so we moved the items off the lawn. A strong wind blew the boxes and some of the material around. Again I picked it up and put it just under the roof of a nearby building and called the company. I was told it would be picked up when they were out in our area. The material is still here! Please pick up the leftover material.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hollywood

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hollywood, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hollywood.

How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Hollywood, Minnesota?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip—snow slides off rather than sitting in place where it can freeze into ice dams. With about 90 centimeters of annual snowfall and roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year here, that matters: each thaw-refreeze cycle weakens asphalt shingles, but Interlock's aluminum panels won't crack or curl under those swings. You can add snow guards to any profile if you want to control slide patterns near walkways or gutters.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?

No. Aluminum's non-porous structure means water doesn't penetrate it the way it does asphalt or wood—nothing swells, cracks, or rots when it thaws. Carver County experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles annually, plus about 750 millimeters of rain, yet Interlock panels installed since 1998 in far harsher climates (from coastal salt air to Antarctic research stations) show no such damage. The oxide layer on 3105-H24 aluminum actually self-heals when scratched, so the material gets tougher, not weaker, over decades of Minnesota weather.

Why is aluminum better than steel for a metal roof in Minnesota's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only the aluminum itself, alloyed to roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 per ASTM B209. What you might see is oxidation (a dull gray patina), but that's harmless and actually protective: the oxide layer self-heals instantly when scratched. In Hollywood's 750 mm annual rainfall, that corrosion-resistance is priceless; steel roofing, by contrast, rusts aggressively once its paint chips. Add the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, and your panels stay vibrant through every rainy season.

Can my house handle a metal roof, or will I need expensive structural work?

Most homes won't need any reinforcement. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 pounds per square foot—so light that even the heavier Mediterranean Tile, at 0.59 lb/sq ft, is roughly 96% lighter than a real concrete or clay tile roof. You can install it directly over most existing asphalt shingles without touching your framing. With annual snowfall around 90 centimeters in Carver County, that low weight means your home handles snow loads safely, and snow doesn't stress your structure the way a traditional tile roof would.

How strong is a metal roof in high winds?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and the four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors—wind can't get underneath to lift sections loose. Hollywood's typical gusts reach about 97 kilometers per hour, well within that safety margin. The same four-way system also handles rapid pressure changes during thunderstorms without flexing or popping. Once installed, your roof acts as a single unified surface rather than overlapping shingles that catch wind like a sail.

Does a metal roof reduce hail damage, and could it lower my insurance?

Yes and yes. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homeowner policies for metal roofs, since claims for hail damage drop dramatically. Get a quote from your agent once you've decided on Interlock; mention the Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance. Over the roof's 50-year-plus lifespan, those insurance savings add up alongside the zero maintenance costs asphalt demands.

Will a metal roof help with cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering attic temperature and cooling demand. Hollywood gets about 3,163 sunshine hours per year, so summer heat gain is real. Cool Roof Rating Council–rated finishes mean you're bouncing solar energy away rather than storing it in your roof deck. The payoff varies by color choice and your HVAC efficiency, but metal roofs consistently outperform asphalt in warm months without sacrificing winter performance.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Almost none. Asphalt shingles demand regular inspection for curling, cracking, and moss, especially in Carver County's 750 mm annual rainfall and 81 freeze-thaw days. Interlock aluminum won't curl, crack, split, or rot, and the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) resists staining. Gutters and flashing still need seasonal cleaning like any roof, but you'll never patch or replace sections. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, which translates to lower long-term cost and more time away from ladder work during Minnesota's unpredictable spring and fall weather.

What's the real warranty on an Interlock roof, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It's also one-time transferable: the next owner gets a full 50 years of coverage from the completion date. That means your roof outlasts two full mortgages while passing protection to the next family. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty and the material's proven track record since 1998 across extreme climates, you're investing in a roof that's still protecting your home when your kids inherit it.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, shake, or tile instead of corrugated metal?

Absolutely. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each with authentic shadow and dimension. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are especially popular for Hollywood's mix of traditional and contemporary homes. Each profile uses the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and four-way interlocking system, so you're choosing the look you want without compromise on durability, fire rating, or the lifetime warranty. Your local Interlock installer, serving the region since 2001, can show samples and help you pick the profile that matches your home's architecture and neighborhood character.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hollywood’s climate?

Yes. Hollywood averages about 90 cm of snow, 748 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
