What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: November 13, 2017Completion: December 24, 2016

We had vents put on our family room that had no vents and didn't need them because the ceiling inside is directly under the insulated roof. I wish they had asked before they installed the vents. The job was done in the end of December 2016. They left material here on our lawn that would be picked up in spring, which was okay with us. Well, spring came, so we moved the items off the lawn. A strong wind blew the boxes and some of the material around. Again I picked it up and put it just under the roof of a nearby building and called the company. I was told it would be picked up when they were out in our area. The material is still here! Please pick up the leftover material.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Waconia Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Waconia Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Waconia Township.

How does a metal roof handle Waconia's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more reliably than asphalt shingles, which trap moisture and ice. Waconia receives about 90 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that soften asphalt and cause premature failure. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so they hold firm through Minnesota's gusty snowmelt cycles (gusts averaging 97 km/h). The panels' lightweight design means no ice dam risk from structural sag, and snow slides cleanly without the water pooling that rots wood or degrades shingle adhesives.

Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofing?

Interlock uses roofing-grade aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust. When aluminum's surface oxidizes, the oxide layer self-heals when scratched—a natural protection that steel cannot match. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, adding a second shield. This dual-layer defense is why Interlock panels have been installed everywhere from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, without a single rust claim in the Guardian Warranty database.

Will my homeowner's insurance recognize a metal roof's hail resistance?

Yes—Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating is the highest available and is recognized by most insurers for potential premium reductions. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, so you're protected beyond what most policies require. Many Waconia homeowners report discounts after installation because underwriters know Class 4 aluminum roofs outperform asphalt and wood shakes in severe weather. Contact your agent with Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) and Intertek listing (33876) before installation—having these credentials on file often speeds the discount approval process.

Can my existing roof framing support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

Your existing framing almost certainly can support an Interlock roof—no reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Compare that to the 90 cm of snow Waconia receives annually: even with a full snow load, the metal roof weighs a fraction of what a traditional tile or slate roof demands. Most homes can be retrofitted directly over existing shingles, saving the cost and mess of tear-off and disposal. Your installer will confirm local framing adequacy, but in the vast majority of Waconia homes, weight is a non-issue.

Can a metal roof really lower my cooling costs in Minnesota?

Waconia receives about 3,163 sunshine hours per year—energy your asphalt roof absorbs and converts to attic heat. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect the heat that dark shingles trap. During Minnesota's brief but intense summer months, this translates to measurably lower cooling costs and a more comfortable home. The reflective coating also extends the roof's life by reducing thermal cycling stress. Over a 40-year lifespan, the energy savings offset a significant portion of the install cost—making a metal roof less expensive than asphalt when you factor in utility bills.

How long does it take to install an Interlock roof, and can you work over my existing shingles?

Most residential installations complete in 2–4 days, depending on roof size and weather. Yes, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs—there's no tear-off required unless your current roof is severely damaged or multiple layers exist. This saves weeks of debris management and keeps installation costs down. Your local Interlock installer, serving the region since 2001, will inspect your deck during the estimate and let you know if tear-off is necessary. The lightweight panels (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle slightly more) mean faster installation and lower labor costs compared to traditional roofing materials.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This isn't a typical asphalt warranty that degrades year by year; it protects the material for the life you own it. Combined with the Alunar 30-year coating warranty and the panels' aluminum core that cannot rot or split, you're looking at a roof that will likely outlast your ownership—and transfer value to a future buyer with decades of protection still in place.

Are interlocking metal panels strong enough for Minnesota wind gusts?

Absolutely. Interlock's four-way interlocking design provides unified resistance across the entire panel assembly. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above Waconia's typical maximum gusts of 97 km/h. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with building codes for high-wind uplift loads. This engineering means your roof won't lift, rattle, or degrade during the spring and fall wind events that stress asphalt seams. Combined with the lightweight design (no structural flex under gusts), your metal roof remains secure through every Minnesota storm season.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require?

Far less than wood shakes, traditional tile, or asphalt shingles. There's no resealing, algae growth, moss treatment, or seasonal inspection rituals. Aluminum doesn't split, curl, or lose granules. The Alunar PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against fading) sheds debris naturally in Waconia's ~750 mm annual rainfall. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning is all most homeowners do—same maintenance they'd do with any roof. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced-maintenance profile, making Interlock appealing to homeowners who want peace of mind without the upkeep burden of traditional materials. Your local installer can recommend a simple annual walk-around, but emergency repairs are virtually nonexistent.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes, fundamentally. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years in climates like Waconia's (with 81 freeze-thaw cycles annually), then go to landfill—a cycle that repeats several times over a building's life. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable and engineered to last decades longer, eliminating multiple tear-off-to-landfill cycles. When an Interlock roof eventually reaches end-of-life, the aluminum can be reclaimed and reused in new panels or other products, closing the loop. Over a 60-year building lifespan, choosing metal means 2–3 fewer roofs in the waste stream—a measurable environmental win that also reduces your long-term material costs.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Waconia Township’s climate?

Yes. Waconia Township averages about 90 cm of snow, 748 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
