| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Watertown Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Watertown Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Watertown Township.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow and ice dams in Watertown Township?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more reliably than asphalt because the smooth aluminum surface and interlocking panel design prevent ice dam buildup. Watertown Township gets about 90 cm of snow yearly, which slides off faster than it accumulates on shingles. The four-way interlocking panels and solid deck installation create a thermal bridge that reduces the temperature differential that causes ice dams in the first place. Snow guards can be added if you want to control where snow exits.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage my metal roof?
No. Watertown Township experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum handles this better than materials that absorb moisture. Aluminum oxide doesn't absorb water, so it won't expand or contract with temperature swings the way wood or asphalt does. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels maintains its structural integrity through repeated freezing and thawing, and the Alunar coating (warranted 30 years) protects against corrosion that could develop from salt spray or road salt drift.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust or corrode in Minnesota winters?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a thin oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath—and when scratched, this oxide layer self-heals. In Watertown Township, where you see ~748 mm of annual rainfall and winter road salt use, this matters: steel rusts from salt and moisture, but aluminum simply doesn't. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 certified) is installed on homes from coastal salt-air regions to Antarctica, proving it outlasts corrosion concerns entirely.
Does my metal roof need reinforcement to handle Minnesota wind gusts?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Watertown Township experiences typical wind gusts around 97 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design distributes wind loads across the entire panel system rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners, so your existing roof structure handles these loads without additional bracing or reinforcement.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles without reinforcing the roof frame?
Yes, in most cases. Interlock's metal roofing is extraordinarily lightweight—the Shingle profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means no structural reinforcement is needed, and you can install over most existing roofs, which saves money on removal and disposal. A local structural assessment is always wise, but the weight difference between metal and traditional tile or slate eliminates the barrier that stops most homeowners from choosing those looks.
What happens if hail damages my metal roof?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Minnesota hail events can be intense, and aluminum's strength (combined with proper installation over a solid deck) means your roof absorbs impact without denting or compromising. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on metal roofs with Class 4 ratings, so you may lower your annual insurance cost while gaining peace of mind.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt. Asphalt shingles deteriorate from the sun's UV rays and the repeated freeze-thaw cycles Watertown Township experiences (about 81 per year), requiring regular inspection and eventual replacement. Aluminum with Alunar's 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM standards) simply doesn't degrade that way. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning is standard; moss or mildew growth is rare on metal. You've essentially eliminated the maintenance cycle that defines asphalt ownership.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 3–7 business days, depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, you can install over existing asphalt shingles—the four-way interlocking design and light weight (~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) mean no tearoff is required in most cases. This saves days of labor and eliminates haul-away costs and landfill impact. A solid deck is installed beneath the panels, which also improves insulation and reduces rain noise. Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the region since 2001, so the local team knows Watertown Township's typical roof configurations and site conditions.
What's the warranty on a metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell my home?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, it transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. Few roofing products offer that combination: you get security for as long as you own the home, and the next owner gets a valuable 50-year safety net. In a market where roofs typically last 15–25 years, this warranty reflects aluminum's real durability in climates like Watertown Township's with 748 mm rain and 90 cm snow annually.
Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum metal roofing is about 95% recyclable, which means at the end of its exceptionally long life, it returns to the material stream rather than a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–25 years and become permanent waste—multiplied across thousands of homes in Carver County, that's millions of pounds in landfills yearly. Choosing Interlock's aluminum ends that cycle for your home. Plus, its energy-efficient colors (thermal emissivity up to 0.84) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling demand during Watertown Township's roughly 3,163 sunshine hours per year.
