What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: November 13, 2017Completion: December 24, 2016

We had vents put on our family room that had no vents and didn't need them because the ceiling inside is directly under the insulated roof. I wish they had asked before they installed the vents. The job was done in the end of December 2016. They left material here on our lawn that would be picked up in spring, which was okay with us. Well, spring came, so we moved the items off the lawn. A strong wind blew the boxes and some of the material around. Again I picked it up and put it just under the roof of a nearby building and called the company. I was told it would be picked up when they were out in our area. The material is still here! Please pick up the leftover material.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hollywood Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hollywood Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hollywood Township.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Minnesota winters?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because their smooth, hard surface prevents water from pooling and ice from bonding. Hollywood Township receives about 90 cm of snow annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to move slightly with thermal expansion—preventing the ice dam formation that traps water under asphalt shingles. The metal substrate itself won't rot or degrade when moisture penetrates, unlike wood or asphalt. Add snow guards to your profile of choice, and you get both safety and unobstructed drainage.

Why do metal roofs made of aluminum outlast steel roofs in wet climates?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When scratched or exposed, aluminum instantly forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the bare metal underneath—a process that repeats indefinitely. In Carver County's climate with roughly 750 mm of annual rainfall, this matters. Steel roofing requires paint or galvanizing that can chip and fail; Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys stay protected chemically, not just cosmetically. That's why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998.

Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof over time?

No. Hollywood Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, a cycle that splits asphalt, cracks wood, and breaks tile. Aluminum expands and contracts smoothly—it won't crack, splinter, or craze. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) adheres tightly to the aluminum substrate and flexes with it. When water gets behind panels, it doesn't trap and freeze; aluminum doesn't absorb moisture or swell. This is why Interlock profiles outlast every competitor's roofing in freeze-thaw regions.

Can a metal roof stand up to Minnesota's wind gusts?

Yes. Hollywood Township gusts reach about 97 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically fastened to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This geometry is why the panels hold UL 2218 Class 4 impact certification—the highest available—and why they perform in both high-wind and hail zones.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, while Mediterranean Tile—which replicates the look of heavy clay or concrete—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft. That's approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Because of this weight, most existing roof structures in Hollywood Township need no reinforcement; Interlock often installs directly over your current asphalt or wood shingles, which lowers labor costs and lets you skip tear-off debris. A traditional tile roof of equivalent coverage would require structural engineering and framing upgrades.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat instead of absorbing it like asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council testing shows initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84. Hollywood Township averages about 3,163 sunshine hours per year, so reflective coatings deliver measurable energy savings. A lighter-colored metal roof stays cooler in summer and reduces the load on air conditioning. Over a 50-year lifespan, this translates to hundreds of dollars in lower utility costs compared to dark asphalt, which absorbs heat and radiates it into the home.

Does a metal roof reduce hail damage or insurance premiums?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available. The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this rating and offer premium discounts for non-combustible metal roofs, especially in hail-prone regions. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 designation and ICC-ES report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025). Even if your area hasn't experienced severe hail recently, the durability and impact resistance reduce long-term claims risk, which some carriers reward.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for a 50-year term from completion, adding resale appeal. The Alunar finish itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). This structure means you're buying the last roof you'll install; whether you sell in 20 years or stay 40, the roof remains protected and transferable.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning and snow guard inspection. Asphalt shingles deteriorate in UV light and lose granules; wood shakes split, cup, and rot in freeze-thaw cycles like Hollywood Township's 81 annual freeze-thaw days. Interlock's aluminum doesn't absorb moisture, splinter, or degrade from UV exposure. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists weathering across 750 mm of annual rainfall and temperature swings. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance compared to traditional materials, lowering lifetime ownership costs.

Is a metal roof environmentally friendly compared to asphalt shingles?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and retains its value in the scrap stream, unlike asphalt. When an asphalt roof reaches end-of-life, the shingles go to a landfill; Interlock roofs, installed in 1998 and still performing, break the tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Aluminum production does consume energy, but its decades-long lifespan and full recyclability make it far more sustainable than replacing asphalt every 15-20 years. Over 50 years in Hollywood Township's rainfall and freeze-thaw climate, one Interlock roof replaces three asphalt roofs—and the old aluminum roof becomes new cans or siding, not waste.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hollywood Township’s climate?

Yes. Hollywood Township averages about 90 cm of snow, 748 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
