Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Gaspee Plateau, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Well, I stand corrected. First I want to apologize for the tone of my last email. I was anticipating a high pressure sales pitch, and dealing with some health issues at present, I was in no mood to deal with being pressured to buy something. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with Michael. Although he presented a good argument of why and how Interlock was a good roof product, at no time did my wife or I feel pressured into buying your product. Also, as I've been burned a couple of times in the past, I made it a personal rule that I NEVER sign a contract on first meeting. As you can see, apparently I broke my own rule in this case, as my wife and I had already researched other roof products and it appeared that Interlock was a reputable company with many favorable reviews. Also, much of our opinion was based in no small measure in the way Michael Baldassari presented himself, the company, and the product. Having said this, we look forward with anticipation to showing off our new roof and are hopeful that others in our neighborhood will appreciated the beauty and benefits of an Interlock all metal roof as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gaspee Plateau
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Gaspee Plateau, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Gaspee Plateau.
How does a metal roof handle Gaspee Plateau's 76 cm of annual snow?
Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice bonding and the four-way interlocking panels create no gaps for water to pool. Gaspee Plateau averages about 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year, making this critical: as snow melts and refreezes, aluminum's oxide layer remains intact and won't delaminate like asphalt shingles do. The lightweight profile (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even under repeated seasonal snow loads. Snow guards are available if you want to manage shed timing.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Rhode Island damage aluminum metal roofing?
No. Aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it has no iron content and cannot rust—the oxide layer that forms when aluminum meets moisture is self-healing and grows stronger with exposure. Gaspee Plateau experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days annually with about 1198 mm of rain, conditions that would crack and curl asphalt shingles and rot cedar shake. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading even under this cycling stress. Aluminum panels expand and contract uniformly without warping or splitting.
Can a metal roof withstand Rhode Island's winter wind gusts?
Yes. Gaspee Plateau's typical gusts reach 118 km/h (73 mph), and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The mechanical interlock between panels distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind design standards. This engineering means your roof won't lift, shift, or separate even during the region's most severe wind events.
How do the interlocking panels handle heavy rain without leaking?
The four-way mechanical interlock between panels creates a continuous weather seal without relying on caulk or sealant, so water is directed downslope and off the roof rather than pooling or penetrating gaps. Gaspee Plateau receives approximately 1198 mm of rain annually; this design handles sustained, heavy rainfall because each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment, the system is as quiet and leak-proof as asphalt roofing. The Guardian warranty covers leakage and water intrusion for the life of the roof.
Does hail damage happen to metal roofs, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most Rhode Island insurers recognize this non-combustible, impact-resistant construction and offer premium reductions comparable to Class 4 asphalt shingles. Contact your carrier with the UL 2218 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 documentation; many offer 5–15% discounts for metal roofs. The actual risk of hail damage in Gaspee Plateau is far lower than wind or freeze-thaw wear.
What is the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially every failure mode that ends asphalt or wood shake roofs. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock panels have proven durability in climates matching Gaspee Plateau's 11.2°C mean temperature and 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles. This is the last roof most homeowners will need to buy.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes. Because Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and can assess whether your current roof deck will support the installation. In most cases, installation over existing shingles eliminates the $1500–$3000 tear-off and disposal cost, speeds the project, and avoids landfill waste. A site inspection confirms your home's specific situation.
Will a metal roof keep my house cooler and lower my electricity bill?
energy-efficient colors in the Interlock lineup achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. Gaspee Plateau receives about 3050 hours of annual sunshine; over a cooling season, this reflectance reduces the radiant load on your attic and interior. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms these ratings. Savings vary by orientation, HVAC efficiency, and local utility rates, but homeowners in similar New England climates report 10–25% cooling reductions in summer. The effect compounds because metal roofs last 50+ years, not 15–20.
Is metal roofing fire-resistant, and does it affect my homeowner's insurance?
Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and carries a Class A fire classification—the highest rating available for roofing materials. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) documents this non-combustibility for code compliance. Many Rhode Island insurers recognize Class A roofing and offer premium reductions because the material will not ignite or contribute to fire spread, even in wildfire-adjacent scenarios. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and safety. Combined with the UL 2218 impact rating, this makes metal roofing the most resilient choice for long-term insurance stability.
Is aluminum metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and retains its value indefinitely; at end of life, old panels return to aluminum mills and become new products indefinitely. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are tear-off waste that ends up in landfills—roughly 11–13 million tons annually in North America. Gaspee Plateau's 1198 mm of annual rain and salt-air exposure mean asphalt roofs last 15–20 years; metal roofs last 50+ years without replacement. Over a century, one metal roof eliminates 3–4 asphalt tear-off cycles, preventing 6–8 tons of shingle waste per home. This compounds across neighborhoods and regions.
