Review: August 15, 2018 Completion: June 8, 2018

Well, I stand corrected. First I want to apologize for the tone of my last email. I was anticipating a high pressure sales pitch, and dealing with some health issues at present, I was in no mood to deal with being pressured to buy something. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with Michael. Although he presented a good argument of why and how Interlock was a good roof product, at no time did my wife or I feel pressured into buying your product. Also, as I've been burned a couple of times in the past, I made it a personal rule that I NEVER sign a contract on first meeting. As you can see, apparently I broke my own rule in this case, as my wife and I had already researched other roof products and it appeared that Interlock was a reputable company with many favorable reviews. Also, much of our opinion was based in no small measure in the way Michael Baldassari presented himself, the company, and the product. Having said this, we look forward with anticipation to showing off our new roof and are hopeful that others in our neighborhood will appreciated the beauty and benefits of an Interlock all metal roof as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pontiac

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pontiac, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pontiac.

Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's oxide layer naturally self-heals when exposed to freeze-thaw stress, so the material grows stronger over time rather than cracking or spalling like asphalt or wood. Pontiac experiences roughly 80 freeze-thaw days per year, a climate where traditional materials degrade rapidly. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) was designed for exactly these conditions; it has been installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling—conditions caused by thermal cycling—for the original owner's lifetime.

How does a metal roof perform under Pontiac's snow loads?

Metal roofing sheds snow reliably because the smooth, hard surface and slight panel slope prevent freeze-bonding, while four-way interlocking panels distribute loads evenly across the roof frame. Pontiac averages about 75 cm of snow annually, and the region's wind gusts reach 125 km/h—conditions that stress traditional shingles. Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles weigh between 0.41 and 0.58 lb/sq ft, meaning no structural reinforcement is needed. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof-to-ground discharge; the ICC-ES ESR-1790 report specifies installation details for your snow load zone.

Can my older Pontiac home support a metal roof without expensive structural upgrades?

Almost certainly yes, because aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the heaviest-looking traditional roof, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs in Rhode Island can support this load without reinforcement, and Interlock installs directly over your old shingles, eliminating tear-off labor and debris. If your home was originally built to support slate or tile (common in Pontiac), you have substantial safety margin. A structural engineer can verify in minutes; most homeowners skip this step entirely because the weight is negligible.

Will heavy rain leak through metal roof seams in Rhode Island?

No—four-way interlocking aluminum panels physically prevent water from flowing upslope into seams. When rainfall reaches 1264 mm per year as it does in Pontiac, leak-proof panel overlap is essential, and Interlock's design forces water to flow downward and out at each seam. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment (standard practice) creates the same silent, dry performance as asphalt shingles. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation specifies water-shedding requirements; compliance is verified at installation. Homeowners often worry metal roofs are loud in rain—they are not, because the deck and underlayment absorb sound just as they do with any roof type.

Is a metal roof strong enough for Pontiac's coastal wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and Pontiac's typical gusts reach 125 km/h, with extremes slightly higher. Four-way interlocking panels distribute lateral loads across the entire roof frame; a single panel cannot be lifted or peeled away. The Guardian warranty covers wind damage up to the 120 mph threshold, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 report details fastening schedules for your wind zone. This is why metal roofing has become standard on coastal homes—it flexes slightly under pressure but never fails at the seams, unlike shingles that can be torn loose one by one.

Can hail damage a metal roof, and will insurance help?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—meaning it withstands hailstones up to 1.5 inches without perforation. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers hail perforation within this range. Many insurance companies offer discounts for Class 4 impact roofing because claim history is dramatically lower than with asphalt; contact your agent for current premium reductions in Pontiac. Rhode Island's 10-year climate data do not flag hail as frequent, but when severe weather does occur, a Class 4 roof gives you protection asphalt cannot match and may save you hundreds in annual premiums.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, because metal roofing is the last roof you will buy, while asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years. Over 50 years (one metal roof vs three asphalt roofs), material and labor for asphalt total thousands more—without the energy savings or transfer value. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and 50-year transfer term for the next owner mean your home's resale value is protected. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. A metal roof installed today will outlast your ownership and your buyer's first decade, making it the financially sound choice even before energy and insurance savings.

Do energy-efficiency metal roofing colors really save money on cooling in Rhode Island?

Yes—energy-efficient colors on Interlock roofs have solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. In Pontiac, where you receive about 3075 sunshine hours per year, this difference reduces cooling load in summer months and keeps attic temperatures 10–15°F lower. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these colors, and reflected heat translates to lower air-conditioning runtime. Over a 30-year roof life, energy savings often equal 15–25% of your cooling bill during warm seasons. The Alunar coating is warranted for 30 years against fading, so reflectance stays nearly constant.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Pontiac, Rhode Island?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served Pontiac and the surrounding region since 1999—longer than most roofing contractors have been in business. As the factory-authorized local installer, they understand New England's snow load zones, wind requirements (ICC-ES ESR-1790 regional specifications), and coastal conditions. They can assess your existing roof structure, recommend the right profile and energy-efficiency color for your home, and handle financing: currently no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Call them for a free roof inspection and a timeline; most Pontiac installations complete in 1–3 days depending on roof size.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable at end-of-life, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that consumes natural resources and generates waste. When asphalt shingles are torn off and discarded, they occupy landfill space indefinitely; Interlock panels are recycled into new products (automotive parts, building stock, consumer goods). Over Pontiac's typical 50-year ownership span, a metal roof eliminates three asphalt roofs' worth of landfill contribution. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning no chemical treatments or frequent repairs that generate hazardous waste. From manufacturing in Delta, BC, to installation in Rhode Island, aluminum roofing delivers a smaller lifecycle footprint than any disposable roof material.
