Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Toll Gate, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Well, I stand corrected. First I want to apologize for the tone of my last email. I was anticipating a high pressure sales pitch, and dealing with some health issues at present, I was in no mood to deal with being pressured to buy something. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with Michael. Although he presented a good argument of why and how Interlock was a good roof product, at no time did my wife or I feel pressured into buying your product. Also, as I've been burned a couple of times in the past, I made it a personal rule that I NEVER sign a contract on first meeting. As you can see, apparently I broke my own rule in this case, as my wife and I had already researched other roof products and it appeared that Interlock was a reputable company with many favorable reviews. Also, much of our opinion was based in no small measure in the way Michael Baldassari presented himself, the company, and the product. Having said this, we look forward with anticipation to showing off our new roof and are hopeful that others in our neighborhood will appreciated the beauty and benefits of an Interlock all metal roof as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Toll Gate
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Toll Gate, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Toll Gate.
Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or slate?
Yes—aluminum's non-porous construction actually thrives in freeze-thaw environments. Toll Gate experiences about 80 freeze-thaw days per year, and unlike asphalt (which becomes brittle in cold) or slate (which can spall when water penetrates and refreezes), aluminum has no moisture absorption points. The material contracts and expands uniformly without cracking or degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking, seals the surface on both sides, so water never penetrates to cause the internal damage that destroys traditional roofing in climates like yours.
How does a metal roof handle snow load and ice dams with Toll Gate's annual snowfall?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface won't grip accumulated ice the way textured shingles do. Toll Gate averages about 75 cm of snow yearly, and the lightweight design means your home's structure carries essentially no extra weight—the Slate profile weighs only about 0.41 lb/sq ft compared to traditional materials. Four-way interlocking panels resist uplift from wind gusts up to 125 km/h during winter storms. Snow guards can be added where desired, but the metal itself prevents ice damming better than asphalt simply because heat reflects off the surface rather than being absorbed and re-radiated into the attic.
Does metal roofing actually leak more than asphalt in heavy rain, or is that a myth?
Metal roofing installed correctly by a qualified installer doesn't leak more—it leaks less. Toll Gate receives about 1264 mm of rain annually, and the sealed four-way interlocking panels create a continuous water barrier rather than relying on overlapping shingles that degrade. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment—which Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) has done since 1999—channels water away just as effectively as asphalt, but without the deterioration that rainfall causes to traditional shingles. The real protection comes from the joint system: water is mechanically guided away from seams, not absorbed into them.
Will a metal roof blow off in Toll Gate's winter and spring storms?
No. The four-way interlocking design is warranted to withstand wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Toll Gate's typical gust winds of about 125 km/h (78 mph). The panels physically interlock on all four sides—top, bottom, and both edges—so they can't be peeled away one at a time like shingles. Even during coastal nor'easters or spring storms common to Kent County, the continuous mechanical grip distributes wind load across the entire roof. Installation to spec matters, which is why working with Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) ensures the fastening and underlayment system is rated for your local wind regime.
Why can't aluminum rust, and does that really matter in Rhode Island?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—iron is what oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. This matters enormously in Rhode Island's marine and freeze-thaw environment. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, creating a double barrier in climates where salt spray, moisture, and cycling temperatures would attack steel or iron-bearing metals. Even if the coating is abraded, the aluminum itself won't corrode—only the oxide heals. The Guardian warranty covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime, transferable for 50 years to the next owner.
Does hail damage a metal roof, and could I save on insurance?
Metal roofs are extremely hail-resistant. Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In most severe hailstorms, metal roofs sustain little or no damage where asphalt or composite shingles would be replaced. Some insurance companies offer premium discounts for metal roofs because claims are fewer, though discounts vary by carrier and location. Even without an explicit discount, the durability means you won't face the repeated replacement costs and deductibles that hail-prone areas experience with traditional roofing. Ask your insurer about their metal roof rate—you may be pleasantly surprised.
Do I need to reinforce my house's structure for a metal roof?
No reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes can support metal roofing over existing asphalt or wood shingles without any structural work. This is especially valuable if you're replacing an older roof because removal costs drop (lighter tearoff), disposal is minimized, and installation is faster. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) can assess your specific structure during the consultation, but the typical Toll Gate home will support a metal roof without reinforcement—meaning lower installation cost and no contractor surprises.
Will a metal roof actually lower cooling costs in summer, or is that just marketing?
energy-efficient Interlock colors do reduce cooling load because aluminum reflects solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. The reflective coatings achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny), paired with thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof bounces sunlight away before heat enters your home. Toll Gate receives about 3075 hours of sunshine yearly—enough for this benefit to matter, especially in summer. While Rhode Island isn't a high-cooling-cost state, reflective roofing reduces attic temperature by 10–20°F compared to dark asphalt, lowering air-conditioning runtime and extending HVAC equipment life. The coating is warranted 30 years against fading, so reflectivity persists across the roof's life.
Is a metal roof really more affordable than asphalt over time?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt but far less over the lifetime of your home. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Toll Gate's climate of freeze-thaw cycling (about 80 per year), rain (1264 mm annually), and snow (about 75 cm), meaning you'd replace it 2–3 times in 50 years. Each tearoff and disposal adds cost. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, transferable for 50 years, means you buy a roof once and never again—no replacement labor, no landfill fees, no disruption. Over 50 years, the total cost of ownership (material, installation, maintenance, replacement) heavily favors metal. Many homeowners view this as the last roof they'll install. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require compared to asphalt?
Metal roofing requires dramatically less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles deteriorate visibly within 10–15 years in freeze-thaw climates like Toll Gate (about 80 cycles annually), requiring regular inspections and repairs. Wood shakes split and decay, especially with 1264 mm of annual rainfall. Metal roofing needs basic upkeep: clear gutters, inspect after severe weather (wind gusts to 125 km/h), remove debris. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and resists chalking and fading for 30 years. No resealing, no replacement shingles, no moss treatment. Most owners go years between any attention. The non-porous aluminum surface simply doesn't degrade the way porous materials do, so maintenance is truly minimal across the roof's lifetime.
