Everything was great. I would've gone with them, but if you want people to buy your roof, your interest rate is ridiculous. The salesman was a great guy and the company gave me a discount, but I couldn't see paying a 12.9% interest rate for 15 years. That's something you should work on or you would have had me.

Review: April 7, 2016Completion: February 29, 2016

During installation there are a lot of small metal shards littering the yard. They were in the bushes, flowers, on our deck, and in the grass. I even found some on the driveway and could of easily punctured a tire. The only time they were cleaned up was at the end instead of every day. We have dogs and they were at rick of cutting their paws during the entire installation. They should have covered bushes and should have tried harder to ensure a safer environment during installation. This would have been a bigger issue with young children. They cleaned up at the end and after making them walk around multiple times we signed off. Though even a month later I can still find one.

The interesting thing, and it still irritates me, is the estimate form looked like something I would've expected out of a company that started 3-4 weeks ago.

There could have been more communication regarding the changes that we wanted to make mid-way through the project. My roofing crew was great.

There was a slight miscommunication regarding location of the roof vents. We sort of had to guess how to get it fixed. Fortunately your customer service was very responsive and got the issue straightened out same day.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Harris

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Harris, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Harris.

Will a metal roof hold up through Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens it in freeze-thaw conditions. Harris experiences about 80 freeze-thaw days per year, where water enters materials and expands, cracking asphalt and wood. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without absorbing water, so it won't split, curl, or rot. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against degradation, protects against the salt-tinged moisture that accelerates decay in competing materials. Your roof won't degrade from the expansion stress that ages traditional materials within 15–20 years.

How does a metal roof handle Harris's annual snowfall?

Harris receives approximately 75 cm of snow per year, and Interlock panels shed snow efficiently without ice-dam buildup when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking design (ICC-ES ESR-1790 certified) prevents water infiltration at panel seams, even when snow sits for weeks. Snow guards are available if you prefer slower melt to protect plantings or parked cars below. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles offer textured finishes that provide traction for roof access, whereas smooth profiles shed fastest. Light weight—the Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even under New England snow loads.

Can metal roofing handle Harris's heavy rainfall without leaks?

Harris receives roughly 1264 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels with sealed seams are engineered to shed water continuously. The panels lock on all four edges (top, bottom, left, right), so water cannot bypass fasteners or seams—the common failure points in asphalt and wood. When installed over solid decking with felt underlayment (standard practice), the system is impermeable. The design is ICC-ES certified (evaluation ESR-1790) for building-code compliance, meaning inspectors recognize it as a complete water-shedding assembly. Homeowners who switch from asphalt report zero interior leaks within the first year.

Will my metal roof stay on in Rhode Island wind gusts?

Yes—Harris's typical wind gusts reach 125 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per specification. The four-way interlock system—where each panel locks to its neighbors—distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. This redundancy means no single gust can lift a corner or edge. UL 2218 Class 4 impact testing (the highest rating) also confirms structural integrity under extreme forces. Coastal New England installers have used this system since 1998 on homes facing Atlantic exposure without blow-off reports.

Does hail damage a metal roof in Harris?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In real-world testing, aluminum's resilience outperforms asphalt, which splits and loses granules, and shingles, which dent permanently. Your homeowner's insurance may offer a discount because Class 4-rated roofing reduces claim frequency. Some insurers recognize the 30-year coating warranty as added proof of durability. When you file a claim, the non-prorated material warranty backs your case: the roof is warranted for life against damage from impact, not just hail, so replacement or repair is covered.

Can an aluminum roof rust in humid, rainy Harris?

Aluminum roofing cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel roofing rusts within 5–10 years in salty or humid climates; Interlock is made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209), which forms a self-healing oxide layer when scratched. Harris's ~1264 mm annual rainfall and 80 freeze-thaw days accelerate corrosion in ferrous metals, but aluminum's oxide naturally seals micro-scratches. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, protecting the underlying metal. After 30 years, the aluminum itself is still corrosion-free—no orange streaks, no structural loss.

Do I need to reinforce my house frame for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—making it one of the lightest roof systems available. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to asphalt. This means you can install Interlock directly over most existing roofs without adding support beams or sistering rafters. Harris's 1264 mm annual rainfall and snow loads are easily supported by standard residential framing when covered by Interlock's four-way interlocking design (ICC-ES ESR-1790). Installers can often avoid the time and cost of tear-off, saving weeks and landfill impact.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance—no granule sweeping, no moss treatment, no seasonal inspections. Unlike asphalt, which sheds granules and requires replacement every 15–20 years, or wood, which splits in Harris's 80 annual freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum simply sheds rain and debris. Leaves may collect in valleys, so a gutter cleaning twice yearly keeps water flowing. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against fading) means no repainting or re-sealing. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance compared to traditional roofing. Over 30 years, you'll spend a fraction of what asphalt homeowners spend on repairs, sealant reapplication, and replacement labor.

What warranty protects me if something goes wrong?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Non-prorated means there's no sliding deductible; a claim is either covered or not, regardless of age. For the next owner, it transfers once, offering 50 years from completion. This addresses every failure mode that has plagued competing materials in Harris's 1264 mm rainfall, 75 cm snow, and 80 freeze-thaw days. No asphalt roof offers lifetime coverage; most wood shingles split within 15 years in your climate. The transferable term also adds tangible resale value—a buyer inherits protection without renegotiation.

Is metal roofing really better for the environment?

Yes—Interlock ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that consumes resources every 15–20 years. The panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum; at end of life, they're melted down for new products rather than trucked to a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, shed in Harris's 80 freeze-thaw cycles and rain, then require full replacement and disposal. Over 50 years, a home may need 2–3 asphalt roof replacements, each generating landfill waste and transportation carbon. Interlock's durability means you install once and recycle once—drastically lower embodied carbon and waste. The system is also CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, eliminating chemical treatments and frequent tear-offs that traditional roofing requires.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Harris’s climate?

Yes. Harris averages about 75 cm of snow, 1264 mm of rain, roughly 80 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 125 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
