Review: September 23, 2020 Completion: December 10, 2004

In 2004 my wife and I decided to purchase the lifetime Interlock Roof. I was fifty at the time and had been called over to my Father In Laws house several times to clean out his gutters and clean off his roof with a pressure washer. I told my wife I did not want our kids to have to do that for us in our later years. The situation with my in-laws provided the motivation to start the search for a permanent roof. We landed on the Interlock Roof at the Western Washington Fair in 2004. The roof was installed and have not had any problems afterwards. There are some idiosyncrasies with this type of roof: The roof is not made to be walked on When it snows the snow builds up for a 1 to 3-inch amount and then slides off the roof and onto the ground below The roof keeps its original look, never needs to be pressure washed off or any other maintenance. We are very satisfied with the roof and very glad we will never have to purchase another roof again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Alderton

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Alderton, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Alderton.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dams in Alderton winters?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably because the smooth surface and tight seams prevent water from pooling where freeze-thaw cycles—Alderton sees about 42 per year—would split traditional asphalt or wood. The panels are warranted for wind gusts up to 120 mph, which matters when wet snow loads shift. Optional snow guards keep snow from sliding where you don't want it. With roughly 57 cm of snow annually and 1315 mm of rain, a roof that doesn't trap water and doesn't degrade under repeated freezing saves you from costly ice-dam repairs and premature failure.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and does that matter in Alderton?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—ever. When the surface scratches, its oxide layer self-heals without oxidation like steel undergoes. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon (warranted 30 years against fading). In Alderton's wet climate—1315 mm rain yearly plus freeze-thaw stress—this corrosion immunity is the core difference: you're not fighting rust stains, structural thinning, or the progressive weakness that claims steel roofs by year 15-20. Aluminum outlasts the worry.

Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs about 0.41 lb per square foot—extraordinarily light compared to slate, wood shake, or tile. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, is roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile, yet delivers the same appearance. Most homes can install Interlock directly over existing asphalt or wood, which also saves money on tear-off and disposal. In Alderton, where most homes weren't built with heavy-material roofing in mind, this weight advantage means a lasting upgrade without structural headaches or engineer reports.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Alderton damage the metal roof or its coating?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts at rates that don't crack or delaminate like asphalt (which gets brittle) or wood (which splits under freeze-thaw stress). Alderton experiences about 42 freeze-thaw days yearly—enough to wreck traditional materials—but Interlock's aluminum alloy and Alunar 70% PVDF coating are specifically engineered for these cycles. The coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading under ASTM D4214 and D2244 testing, conditions that simulate repeated freezing. The panels also resist curling and cracking, two common failure modes in cold, wet climates.

Are four-way interlocking panels strong enough for Pierce County wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels interlock on all four edges, creating a unified system warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Alderton's typical wind gusts reach about 103 km/h (64 mph), well within the safety margin. During the severe gusts that do occur, the four-way interlock prevents uplift and flutter—problems that plague single or two-way fastened systems. The system has been installed in coastal salt-air homes and Antarctic research stations, environments far harsher than Alderton's 2953 sunshine hours and moderate wind profile. You get peace of mind without overbuilding.

What hail protection does Interlock roofing offer, and could it lower insurance costs?

Interlock aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact resistance is rare and often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; check with your insurer. Pierce County's hail exposure is moderate relative to inland regions, but when hail does strike, a Class 4 roof absorbs the impact without compromising the warranty. Many carriers reward non-combustible Class A roofing (Interlock's available rating) with better rates. Combined with the non-prorated lifetime material warranty and a one-time transfer term of 50 years, impact protection translates directly to lower long-term roofing costs.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance: no asphalt granule loss, no wood rot, no algae treatment cycles. Rinse debris once or twice yearly; that's it. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists dirt buildup and UV, and aluminum never splits, curls, or rots—eliminating the routine repairs that consume asphalt and wood roofs. In Alderton's 1315 mm of annual rainfall and 42 freeze-thaw days, traditional roofs demand gutter cleaning, leak repairs, and shingle replacement by year 15-25. Interlock stays intact, requiring no more than a visual inspection. That's the point: you buy a roof once and forget it, rather than patching one every decade.

What roofing profiles and looks does Interlock offer for Alderton homes?

Five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam—each a four-way interlocking aluminum panel with authentic texturing and shadow lines. Slate mimics quarried stone; Cedar Shingle and Shake replicate wood grain and dimensionality; Mediterranean Tile matches clay barrel tile; Standing Seam delivers a modern, crisp aesthetic. Each profile installs at different weights (Slate ~0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake ~0.58, Tile ~0.59) but all over existing roofs without reinforcement. Choose the appearance that suits your home's character and Alderton's architectural context—Interlock has manufactured these since 1998 in Delta, BC, so the profiles are proven and consistent across regions.

Is a metal roof a better long-term value than asphalt in Alderton?

Yes. An asphalt roof costs less upfront but fails by year 15-25 in Alderton's climate (1315 mm rain, 42 freeze-thaw cycles yearly), forcing a tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation—three expensive cycles in a homeowner's lifetime. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime warranty, transferable 50 years to the next owner, covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and impact loss. You pay once and skip the landfill cycle. Current financing (no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off) erases the up-front gap. Over 40-50 years, aluminum costs dramatically less per year and never degrades like asphalt does under repeated freeze-thaw stress. It's the last roof you buy.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Alderton, and how long have they served Pierce County?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and is the authorized local installer for Alderton. They understand Pierce County's wet, freeze-thaw climate and know how Interlock performs over 1315 mm of annual rainfall and 57 cm of snow. They handle the installation process—typically faster than asphalt because the four-way interlocking panels speed up sealing—and can install over your existing roof, minimizing disruption. Call them for a site assessment, warranty explanation, and current promotion details. Local service means someone nearby stands behind the work and knows your neighborhood's specific conditions.
