Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Edgewood, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I want to thank you for a job well done on my new roof. The work was done on schedule in spite of winter weather, and Brian, your roofer, was very polite and responsive. Several neighbors have called to comment on how nice it looks.
I cannot think of anything as everything from presentation to completion of the roofing project went smoothly! I do get compliments on my new roof from Interlock- the red color and the slate look get rave reviews! I do recommend Interlock to anyone I meet that gives a compliment or says they are considering a new roof.
In 2004 my wife and I decided to purchase the lifetime Interlock Roof. I was fifty at the time and had been called over to my Father In Laws house several times to clean out his gutters and clean off his roof with a pressure washer. I told my wife I did not want our kids to have to do that for us in our later years. The situation with my in-laws provided the motivation to start the search for a permanent roof. We landed on the Interlock Roof at the Western Washington Fair in 2004. The roof was installed and have not had any problems afterwards. There are some idiosyncrasies with this type of roof: The roof is not made to be walked on When it snows the snow builds up for a 1 to 3-inch amount and then slides off the roof and onto the ground below The roof keeps its original look, never needs to be pressure washed off or any other maintenance. We are very satisfied with the roof and very glad we will never have to purchase another roof again.
When we are ready to do our roof we will be calling. We needed a quote
They could have improved their communication.
They were stellar! There is nothing I would change!
I liked the quality of the product and it looked good just too expensive.
We just wanted to let you know how thoroughly-pleased we are with our new Interlock Roof. It is absolutely beautiful and we have had a lot of people stopping as they walk or drive by to admire how nice it looks. Everything progressed on the job exactly as you had shared with us when we signed the contract. There were no surprises. From the beginning when we got the call to set up a start date, to the final clean up and retrieval of the waste bin everything was handled so professionally. Viktor and Alex were a dream to work with-so-pleasant and each day everything was left so tidy that it would have been hard for guests to tell that we were in the middle of a re-roofing job. We will highly recommend your product and doing business with such a professional and obviously well run company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Edgewood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Edgewood, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Edgewood.
Will a metal roof handle Edgewood's snow and freeze-thaw cycles without ice dams?
Yes. Edgewood averages about 33 cm of snow annually across roughly 21 freeze-thaw days, and metal's smooth surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified plane that prevents the moisture trapping that causes ice dams. Snow slides off rather than sitting against your home, and the thermal conductivity of aluminum means less interior heat loss that could melt snow at the eave and refreeze at the gutter.
Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel when both are metal?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—period. Steel corrodes from oxygen exposure; aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched. In Pierce County's 1,280 mm annual rainfall, that's a crucial difference. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is backed by a lifetime limited warranty that specifically covers rusting. Even if your roof is damaged, oxidation isn't the failure mode; steel in the same situation can corrode and fail within years.
How does Interlock metal roofing perform in hailstorms, and could it lower my insurance premium?
Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, and Tile profiles all carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. With about 2,931 sunshine hours annually in Edgewood and typical gusts to 101 km/h, hail is infrequent but damaging when it hits. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 rated roofing; you'll want to contact your agent with the UL listing details to see what savings apply.
Can this roof handle Edgewood's wind and coastal gusts without failing?
Yes. Interlock panels are four-way interlocking and warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Edgewood's typical gusts reach 101 km/h, well within that range. The interlocking system means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides—not just fastened at edges like shingles. That distributed load-bearing design is why the same roof performs from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure before installing a metal roof?
Almost never. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while the Cedar Shingle runs 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most existing residential framing can support these loads without reinforcement. That's why Interlock installs directly over existing roofs in most cases, eliminating tear-off labor and waste. Edgewood inspectors will verify framing condition, but the aluminum's featherweight profile makes retrofits economical where traditional tile would demand costly structural upgrades.
What's the actual warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. That means your buyer gets decades of protection without wondering about hidden roof damage. Over a 40- to 50-year service life in Edgewood's 1,280 mm annual rainfall, you're essentially buying your last residential roof.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Metal roofs with energy-efficient colors reflect heat instead of absorbing it the way asphalt does. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). Edgewood's 2,931 annual sunshine hours mean cumulative cooling benefit during the warmer months. The effect is less dramatic than in hot climates, but paired with Edgewood's mean temperature of 11.3°C, a reflective metal roof minimizes the seasonal peak load without requiring air conditioning upgrades.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Far less than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Metal requires no granule replacement, no wood treatment, and no tile regrouting. Annual visual inspection for debris and annual gutter cleaning are standard for any roof in Edgewood's rainy climate (1,280 mm yearly). The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, and the aluminum oxide self-heals minor scratches. You're looking at decades with virtually no active maintenance—no moss treatment, no patch repairs, no seasonal worries.
How long does metal roof installation take, and can you install over my old roof?
Installation typically spans 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs—one of the few systems that can, thanks to its 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft weight. You skip tear-off labor and the landfill disposal cost. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and handles site prep, flashing, and final inspection to code. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Is metal roofing fire-resistant, and does it meet code in Washington?
Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and available in Class A fire rating—the highest classification. The product holds ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025), confirming compliance with Washington State building code. Pierce County permitting offices recognize this rating. For homeowners in forested areas or those seeking maximum fire insurance credibility, Class A aluminum is a genuine safety upgrade over asphalt shingles, which are Class C or lower. The material itself cannot ignite or spread flame.
