Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Waller, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
In 2004 my wife and I decided to purchase the lifetime Interlock Roof. I was fifty at the time and had been called over to my Father In Laws house several times to clean out his gutters and clean off his roof with a pressure washer. I told my wife I did not want our kids to have to do that for us in our later years. The situation with my in-laws provided the motivation to start the search for a permanent roof. We landed on the Interlock Roof at the Western Washington Fair in 2004. The roof was installed and have not had any problems afterwards. There are some idiosyncrasies with this type of roof: The roof is not made to be walked on When it snows the snow builds up for a 1 to 3-inch amount and then slides off the roof and onto the ground below The roof keeps its original look, never needs to be pressure washed off or any other maintenance. We are very satisfied with the roof and very glad we will never have to purchase another roof again.
We just wanted to let you know how thoroughly-pleased we are with our new Interlock Roof. It is absolutely beautiful and we have had a lot of people stopping as they walk or drive by to admire how nice it looks. Everything progressed on the job exactly as you had shared with us when we signed the contract. There were no surprises. From the beginning when we got the call to set up a start date, to the final clean up and retrieval of the waste bin everything was handled so professionally. Viktor and Alex were a dream to work with-so-pleasant and each day everything was left so tidy that it would have been hard for guests to tell that we were in the middle of a re-roofing job. We will highly recommend your product and doing business with such a professional and obviously well run company.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
This is to advise that our Interlock Roofing System was completed on Monday, March 26. We have had many compliments from neighbors and friends on the attractiveness of the roof. And we are very pleased with the finished product. The installers were very efficient and left no debris. The project was completed in just a few days and we are quite confident that we will enjoy not having to worry about our roof as long as we stay in the house. Thank you for providing such a nice product.
I want to thank you for a job well done on my new roof. The work was done on schedule in spite of winter weather, and Brian, your roofer, was very polite and responsive. Several neighbors have called to comment on how nice it looks.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Waller
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Waller, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Waller.
How does a metal roof handle snow and ice in Waller's winters?
Aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice naturally without the pooling that leads to dams on asphalt. Waller receives about 30 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 46 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels (rated UL 2218 Class 4 for hail impact) remain structurally sound through repeated freeze cycles because aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade under expansion and contraction stress the way asphalt binder does. Optional snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled shedding.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?
No—freeze-thaw cycling actually reveals aluminum's material advantage. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks under repeated temperature swings, or wood, which rots when water enters grain, aluminum is inert. Waller's 46 annual freeze-thaw days mean your roof experiences constant contraction and expansion, yet aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209 roofing-grade) simply cycles without degradation. The Alunar coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) protects the metal surface while the oxide layer self-heals microscopic scratches, keeping the material sealed through decades of Waller winters.
Can a metal roof withstand Waller's wind gusts?
Yes—the panels are mechanically fastened and four-way interlocked to resist 120 mph winds when installed to specification, well above Waller's typical gust speeds of about 98 km/h. Each panel connects to the next on all four edges, creating a continuous, flexible structure that moves as a unified system rather than individual shingles catching wind. In Pierce County's maritime climate with moderate-to-strong gusts, this interlocking integrity prevents the progressive lift-and-tear failure that begins asphalt shingle wind damage. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, giving you a margin of safety above local conditions.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofs can?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—the chemical reaction that produces rust requires iron and oxygen. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that forms naturally within minutes of exposure to air. If that layer is scratched (say, during installation or impact), it self-heals in days. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) are alloyed for durability in wet climates; combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides), this stops corrosion even in salt-air environments. Waller's 1195 mm annual rainfall tests this protection constantly—aluminum passes.
Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal roof?
Almost certainly not. Interlock's Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures, even older Waller homes, were built to support asphalt shingles (15 lb/sq ft) or heavier materials. Because you're installing something far lighter and can often place it directly over your existing roof (avoiding a tear-off), your framing carries less load after the install than before. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms suitability over standard residential framing—no reinforcement needed.
How long does installation take and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation speed depends on your roof's complexity, but Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc.—serving the region since 1997—completes most residential projects in 1–3 days. Yes, installation over existing asphalt is standard. The lightweight aluminum (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, depending on profile) means no structural modification, so the crew can work directly over your current roof without a tear-off. This saves time, reduces labor costs, and keeps roofing debris out of Waller's landfill. The local installer can review your roof's condition and recommend whether an overlay or tear-off best suits your home.
Is a metal roof more affordable than asphalt when you account for lifespan?
Over the roof's full life, aluminum metal roofing typically costs less per year than repeated asphalt replacements. An asphalt roof lasts 15–25 years in Waller's wet, freeze-thaw climate; you'll replace it 2–3 times in 50 years. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable 50 years for the next owner) means one installation lasts your ownership and adds value at resale. Current financing options—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—lower your upfront cost. Fewer replacements mean fewer tear-offs to the landfill and fewer labor cycles; over decades, the math favors metal.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce energy bills?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. Thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, so heat that would heat your attic instead bounces away. Waller receives about 2943 sunshine hours per year, so this reflective benefit compounds. A lighter roof surface means lower attic temperatures, especially useful in summer when cooling demand rises. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the performance. In the Pacific Northwest's milder climate, the savings may be modest compared to hot regions, but combined with a metal roof's durability, it's energy efficiency with no tradeoff in warranty or aesthetics.
How is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?
Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable; at end-of-life, your roof can be melted and reused indefinitely without degradation. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are single-use—once removed, they're landfilled by the millions of tons annually because the aggregate and binder cannot separate economically. By choosing aluminum, you avoid contributing to that cycle and keep material in the loop. Waller's 1195 mm of rain and 30 cm of snow mean your roof works hard; when it's time to retire it in 50+ years, Interlock's panels return to the aluminum supply chain instead of a landfill. Sustainability here means real materials science, not marketing.
What does Interlock's Guardian Warranty actually cover for metal roofing?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The Alunar coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). When you sell, the warranty becomes one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion date. This means your buyer receives half a century of protection, which is unusual in roofing and attractive at resale. In Waller's climate of 46 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 1195 mm rainfall, this coverage addresses the stresses that degrade asphalt and wood—a meaningful promise backed by three decades of installations.
