Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Algona, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
I think Interlock Roofing needs to improve on communication with their customers. When the salespeople came to do the sales pitch, the quote form was transferred into a contract instead of a check box form. It is difficult for the customer to understand the exact wording used in the contract. There was a lot of miscommunication because the workers didn't have the paperwork from the salesperson. I'd like to speak with corporate. I had the least positive interaction with the manager. I feel the manager of the job needs to do a walk-through with the paperwork prior to starting the job to avoid problems. They did great. Just because I am not going to use the company doesn't mean that I wasn't impressed with the company and presentation.
Scheduling updates for the project before I ask for them would be good. This job got pushed out 3 times with only 1 day notice. Scheduling to be here is very difficult with this short notice. It would be nice if the Forman of the installation crew would talk to me when they show up and also when they are leaving each day. I am also awaiting a refund for services not needed but included in my original quote.
Kim was tired of breaking tiles every time he had to clean his roof. He was sick of finding leaks on rainy, windy nights. He did his research, talked to different companies, and decided Interlock® was the way to go for him and his girlfriend.
It went very well, were thrilled. I just love it.
They could have asked me if there were options for the air vents. I was not informed that they were going to be that big. I wanted some that were smaller. I was wondering if I could have the leftover shingles.
Have done! Most of the people I recommend Interlock to are greatly concerned about the cost; but our house was small and easy so the cost to us was not beyond what we wanted to pay for such a high quality roof. When we originally contacted interlock we needed a metal detached garage roof replaced. I explained the roof and the type of building and its construction to the person on the phone who said they could replace the roof. When the sales representative came to our property they were not able to replace the roof on our garage. But we knew we needed a new house roof and decided to go ahead with that. I wish your survey had a way to attach a photo, the house looks great!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Algona
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Algona, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Algona.
How does a metal roof handle Algona's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably because the smooth surface prevents ice dams from forming the way asphalt does. With about 194 cm of snow per year and roughly 58 freeze-thaw days, your roof experiences constant temperature swings that crack and curl asphalt shingles; aluminum's oxide layer flexes and self-heals instead. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide-off timing on steep pitches. The warranty covers the roof to 120 mph wind resistance, which handles the region's typical gusts up to 128 km/h without panel lift.
Why does aluminum roofing hold up better than asphalt through repeated freeze-thaw cycles?
Asphalt hardens and becomes brittle in cold, then softens and splits during thaw; aluminum expands and contracts without cracking or curling. Algona's 58 annual freeze-thaw days mean your roof experiences this stress constantly. Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy was engineered for exactly this climate pattern. Because aluminum contains no iron, it never rusts from the salt-laden moisture blown inland from Puget Sound during winter. The material's Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, stays flexible through temperature extremes that degrade asphalt in 15–20 years.
With 1760+ mm of annual rain, what prevents leaks at the panel seams?
The four-way interlocking system means water flows down and out before it ever reaches a seam; each panel overlaps its neighbors in four directions, so water literally cannot get trapped. Algona's 1761 mm yearly rainfall—more than twice the continental average—demands a roof that sheds aggressively, not absorbs. A solid deck with ice-and-water underlayment below the panels adds a second defense against the driving rain that comes off Puget Sound. Homeowners report zero leaks at panel joints across three decades of real-world use, from coastal salt-air homes to inland climates with similar rainfall patterns.
Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles install at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft—comparable to asphalt—so your home's framing handles them without modification. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite its ceramic appearance, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft because aluminum is roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile. Compare that to actual tile roofing at 15 lb/sq ft, and you see why no beam upgrades are required. Most roofs install directly over existing asphalt or wood shingles, saving thousands in tear-off labor and landfill fees. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with building code weight and load requirements.
Does aluminum roofing rust in a wet climate like Algona's?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals within hours. This is why Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides—extra insurance in salt-air and moisture-heavy environments. With 1761 mm of rain annually and proximity to Puget Sound's salt spray, this dual-side protection matters. Steel roofing will corrode and stain in these conditions; aluminum stays sound and clean. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers rusting—because on aluminum, it simply will not occur.
What hail rating does an Interlock metal roof carry, and will my insurance company notice?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That extreme durability has prompted some insurers to lower premiums on metal roofing compared to asphalt, though savings vary by policy. Class 4 testing simulates real hail strikes, so underwriters recognize this as genuine protection. In Algona, severe hail is less common than winter ice, but the Class 4 rating gives your home armor-level defense against any weather impact. Contact your insurer with the product spec sheet; many companies now offer measurable discounts for Class 4-rated roofs.
How much wind can Interlock metal roofing actually withstand?
The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Algona's typical gusts reach 128 km/h—well within that limit—and the four-way interlocking design means panels lock together so firmly that wind cannot lift them. Each panel overlaps and interconnects with four neighbors, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that could peel away. Installation to spec means proper fastening into solid decking and correct overlap sequence, which our local crew has executed since 1997. You will not experience panel uplift or flutter in regional weather.
What's the actual warranty, and how does it compare to the roof's real lifespan?
The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap and no time-based exclusions. Transfer it to the next owner, and they get 50 years from completion. Aluminum roofing typically lasts 40–60 years in wet climates; Algona's 1761 mm rain and 194 cm snow accelerate wear on asphalt (15–20 years) but not on aluminum. Because the material cannot rust or rot and the Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking, you are actually buying your last roof. That shifts the financial equation entirely compared to replacing asphalt every two decades.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt?
Asphalt roofing in Algona's wet climate demands annual gutter cleaning, moss treatments, and algae pressure-washing to stay functional. Metal roofing requires none of that. Interlock panels have no granules to lose, no shingles to curl or split in freeze-thaw cycles, and no organic growth problem—aluminum's smooth surface and the Alunar fluorocarbon finish resist moss and lichen. With 2743 annual sunshine hours, you do get seasonal debris, but hosing the roof twice yearly is your entire routine. CALGreen has verified Interlock as a roofing system with reduced maintenance needs. Over 30 years, that is dozens of costly service calls you simply will not make.
What is the installation timeline, and can you install over my existing roof?
Yes, Interlock installs over most existing asphalt or wood-shake roofs without tear-off—no costly dumpster fee, no weeks of debris, no structural work. Installation typically takes 3–5 days depending on roof size and pitch. The crew fastens 1x4 purlins or installs directly to solid decking (if present), adds ice-and-water underlayment, then interlocks the panels. Because the material weighs only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, your framing handles the load. Our local team at Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has been serving the region since 1997, so we know Algona's weather and building requirements inside out. The current promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, making now a practical time to schedule.
