Review: October 22, 2019

Work on the price, and I think you will get yourself a lot of business. A lot of the labor varies whether you take off the roof or not and includes the cost of removing the roof, and in my case, they would not be taking away anything, so I am still trying to figure out why it would be a two-day job when it's not that big of a roof.

Review: December 13, 2021Completion: November 16, 2021

Interlock Roofing took forever. There was so much wrong. I needed a roof replacement from the damage. It took two months for them to respond. When they did come out, I was overcharged for the bid. They had to redo the bid. I got emails sent to me that weren't even my estimate. It was somebody else's. I got the run-around and was trying to contact people. They were saying they would get me to them and nobody would ever call me back. I finally got a hold of someone who did communicate with me and finally got someone to come out to replace the roof. Interlock Roofing could have improved with the installation, workmanship as they are cleaning things up, and taking care of customers' property. My experience with Interlock Roofing was awful and I'm not happy.

I can't believe how much the roof changed the entire view of the house. There could have been more consistent clean-up during the installation. We have no regrets.

I would not recommend them because I am not impressed with this company. I think the salesman should have had the proper skylights ordered for my home and not trying to fit ones in the space. I could have gotten the roof at half the price and one that does not leak.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Klickitat

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Klickitat, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Klickitat.

How does a metal roof handle Klickitat's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because aluminum conducts heat more readily than asphalt, reducing ice dam formation during the freeze-thaw cycling Klickitat experiences about 50 days per year. The smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding like it does to asphalt shingles. Snow guards can be installed at the eaves if desired. With roughly 112 cm of snow annually, a properly pitched metal roof prevents the weight and moisture damage that degrades conventional materials, and aluminum's non-corrosive oxide layer resists the repeated wet-freeze cycles without degradation.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum roofing in a climate like Klickitat's?

No; aluminum is naturally immune to freeze-thaw damage because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot. Klickitat's approximately 50 annual freeze-thaw days present no threat to roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or losing integrity. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating—applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—protects the oxide layer further. Asphalt shingles absorb moisture and split under these cycles; wood shakes cup and crack. Aluminum simply cycles and returns to its original form, year after year.

Can metal roofing stand up to Klickitat's wind gusts?

Yes. Klickitat wind gusts reach approximately 108 km/h, and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each panel to its neighbors in all directions, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This mechanical interlock has been proven in coastal environments where salt-air corrosion and persistent wind are extreme. The rigid aluminum structure also resists the uplift that tears loose asphalt shingle corners.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Klickitat's climate data does not indicate a high hail frequency, this impact resistance means your roof will not dent, crack, or lose shingles during severe weather. Many insurance underwriters recognize Class 4 impact resistance and may offer premium reductions or discounts; contact your insurer with the UL 2218 certification. This durability eliminates the repair costs and claim deductibles that hail inflicts on asphalt and wood-shake roofs.

Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because rust is iron oxide, and roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) contains no iron. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic, self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air—a natural barrier that repairs itself when scratched. This is why Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, providing additional long-term protection warranted 30 years. In Klickitat's wet climate—averaging about 578 mm of rain annually—this dual protection ensures the roof will not degrade the way steel rusts or wood rots under persistent moisture.

Is metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without structural work?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light; the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—meaning no structural reinforcement is required in most cases. The Slate profile is similarly minimal in weight. This lightweight advantage allows installation directly over most existing asphalt or wood roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor and landfill disposal. A structural engineer may verify your framing in rare cases, but the vast majority of Klickitat homes can be retrofitted without reinforcement, saving thousands in preparation costs.

Will a metal roof help me save on cooling costs in summer?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect sunlight and heat rather than absorb it like dark asphalt shingles do. In Klickitat's 3375 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces the heat your attic absorbs, lowering cooling costs and improving indoor comfort. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable performance. While Klickitat's mean temperature is cool at 12°C, summer heat gain still builds in attics with dark roofing; a reflective metal roof minimizes that buildup without requiring additional ventilation.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you calculate the full lifecycle cost. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years and require replacement multiple times in a homeowner's tenure, each cycle incurring labor, tear-off, and landfill costs. Interlock metal roofing carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, plus a one-time transferable warranty of 50 years for the next owner—effectively your last roof. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Over 40–50 years, the elimination of replacement costs, maintenance labor, and repeated tear-offs provides clear economic advantage despite higher initial investment.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require?

Interlock metal roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt, wood shake, or traditional tile. The aluminum surface does not require coating reapplication, does not crack or curl, does not harbor moss or algae growth, and does not need periodic sealing. In Klickitat's wet climate with about 578 mm of annual rainfall, keeping gutters clear is standard practice for any roof, but the metal roof itself requires only occasional visual inspection and debris removal. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Compare this to asphalt shingles, which degrade under moisture and UV exposure, or cedar shakes, which require annual treatment and are prone to rot in persistent dampness.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Klickitat, Washington?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and is the authorized local installer for Klickitat and surrounding areas. The company understands PNW climate challenges—heavy rain, snow, wind gusts to 108 km/h, and 50 annual freeze-thaw days—and installs to the ICC-ES ESR-1790 standard (reissued 2025) that ensures full warranty coverage. Local installation also means faster response times, knowledge of regional building codes, and familiarity with Klickitat's architectural character. You can verify installation by a trained contractor who backs the product with the Guardian Warranty.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Klickitat’s climate?

Yes. Klickitat averages about 112 cm of snow, 578 mm of rain, roughly 50 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 108 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
