Your home is your greatest investment, sheltering you from the storms. Don’t nickel and dime yourself when choosing a roof, you get what you pay for. We chose Interlock aluminum roofing for our house, and are totally pleased with it. Aluminum doesn’t rust period. The current rage of steel roofing is a racket preying on uninformed consumers who want something for next to nothing. Steel roofs are coated to prevent rust. However, once these coatings wear off rust sets in. I have personally seen an 18 year-old steel roof with significant rusting after the coating was gone. Do yourself a favor, get an Interlock aluminum roof. Dean Landers 5 star review June 9/2026 Janesville WI

Review: April 16, 2026Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Resident at the home was dissatisfied with the clean up as a mess was left on the deck area.

Review: September 27, 2023Completion: August 29, 2023

It's too early to tell. The roof looks good and has held up against rain for one month. Scheduling the project was very challenging. It took lots of pushing and back and forth to establish a two week window, months out, for the installation. It took from October until August the next year from start to finish. This most likely wouldn't be an issue for most people, but my roof was already leaking and my work schedule is abnormal. The installation team was excellent. Nice people, clear interactions and expectations.

Review: July 27, 2023Completion: May 22, 2023

The crew did a very good job. They were very cordial and answered all my questions very well. The timeframe for when it was going to be completed fell short of my expectations. I don't know if they can do anything about it, but we are still getting remnants from when they cut. I just picked up another piece today. When they are cutting, they are probably leaving those things on the roof somewhere, and eventually they blow down and are sharp. I worry about people walking on them.

Review: June 8, 2023Completion: April 30, 2023

The crew was great and easy to work with. They need to advertise their project, and it would be great to have that sign out front. I have had people ask about where I got it done. Everyone was very polite, courteous, and helpful. They answered all of my questions.

Review: May 9, 2023Completion: March 24, 2023

They can improve their communication after signing the contract with a salesperson. There were a few months where I didn't have a direct contact to check in for materials during the timeframe of the project because I had a couple of projects going on at the same time with the solar panels being installed. It all worked out, but I think that would be an area to improve in. It looks beautiful, and I love it!

The communication could be improved, as well as the follow-up. I wonder how responsive they will be in the future. Their work was amazing but the communication wasn't. Communication was very poor, but the roof is amazing and its quality good.

Better communication around delays in start date. I would have been find with delays if they were transparent and kept to date as we passed what we were told multiple times.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Silver Lake Terrace

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Silver Lake Terrace, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Silver Lake Terrace.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Wisconsin damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it has no iron and cannot rust, even when exposed to moisture during Silver Lake Terrace's roughly 80 freeze-thaw days per year. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects against corrosion whether temperatures swing above or below freezing. Steel roofing fails under these conditions; aluminum improves with age. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against fading, adds another layer of defense against the region's 835 mm of annual rain and snow melt.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dam buildup in Wisconsin winters?

Interlock metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because of its smooth, interlocking panel design and slippery surface—snow slides off rather than collecting. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water from backing up under panels during thaw cycles, which stops ice dam formation at its source. Silver Lake Terrace receives about 82 cm of snow annually and experiences significant melt-and-refreeze events; aluminum's thermal conductivity actually helps equalize roof temperature and reduce the temperature differential that creates ice dams in the first place. Optional snow guards are available if you want to slow water runoff on steeper pitches.

Will a metal roof stay attached during Wisconsin wind storms?

Yes—the four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well above typical gusts in Silver Lake Terrace, which average 20 km/h with extremes around 99 km/h. Each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors in four directions, so wind pressure cannot work panels loose the way it can with shingles. This design passes UL testing and carries ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025), meaning your installation meets building code for the region. The warranty covers wind-driven water intrusion when the system is installed correctly, giving you documented protection.

Does a metal roof reduce insurance premiums in hail country, and will it survive large hailstones?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty actually covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because the claims data prove its durability. Hail events are less common in Silver Lake Terrace's climate than in the Great Plains, but when they occur, the aluminum construction simply will not dent, crack, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt shingles, wood, or concrete tile do. Contact your insurance agent with the UL 2218 rating to confirm any available premium reduction; the documentation is straightforward.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—period. Unlike steel roofing, which will eventually corrode even with a coating, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that instantly repairs itself when scratched or damaged. In coastal or industrial environments with salt air, Interlock installs panels with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides of each panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM D4214 and D2244). Silver Lake Terrace's 835 mm of annual precipitation and occasional road salt exposure are handled easily by aluminum's chemistry. You're buying corrosion immunity, not a coating that will eventually fail.

Does an aluminum metal roof need structural reinforcement underneath?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heaviest Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. This means the roof can install directly over your existing shingles in most cases, eliminating expensive tear-off, hauling, and landfill costs. Your home's framing was built to handle asphalt shingles; aluminum weighs a fraction of that. Most homes in Silver Lake Terrace can accommodate a metal roof retrofit without any structural upgrades, making the installation faster and the project budget tighter.

How much does a metal roof cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

Metal roof installation costs more upfront, but the lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian warranty for the original owner eliminates the cycle of tearing off and replacing asphalt every 15–20 years. Over 50 years in Silver Lake Terrace's climate—with its 80 freeze-thaw days and 835 mm of annual rain—you'll buy asphalt roofing three or four times; you'll buy an Interlock roof once. The coating carries a 30-year warranty against fading, and the aluminum itself never deteriorates from moisture, freeze-thaw, or corrosion. When you sell, the warranty transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which often increases home value more than the upfront cost difference.

What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover, and how long does it really last?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. There's no pro-rata decline—you get full coverage for life as long as you own the home. When you sell, it transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which is rare in the roofing industry. The coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. This warranty structure exists because aluminum doesn't degrade like wood, asphalt, or steel; the material is stable. In Silver Lake Terrace's wet climate with 82 cm of snow and significant seasonal variation, that durability translates to a roof that outlasts multiple generations of asphalt replacements.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none compared to asphalt or wood shake. Asphalt shingles curl, blister, and lose granules every season in Silver Lake Terrace's 3,094 annual sunshine hours and 80 freeze-thaw cycles; wood shakes rot, split, and require periodic treatment. Interlock aluminum needs no sealing, no replacement of damaged shingles, and no fungicide spraying. Leaves and debris wash off easily during the 835 mm of annual rainfall. The four-way interlocking seams are factory-engineered and don't separate or require caulk maintenance. The CALGreen certification recognizes the reduced maintenance burden. Occasional visual inspection is all that's needed; most homeowners go years without touching their roof.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock roofing ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that happens every 15–20 years. Each time you replace asphalt in Silver Lake Terrace, you generate waste that sits in landfills for decades; aluminum, by contrast, retains value and can be recycled indefinitely without degradation. Over a 50-year period, a home that replaces asphalt three or four times sends multiple tons to landfill. Interlock's single installation delivers energy-efficiency certification in reflective colors, which reduces cooling loads and saves energy over the roof's life. The lighter weight also means less transportation fuel per unit of protection, and no structural reinforcement is needed, eliminating concrete and steel waste on the install side.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Silver Lake Terrace’s climate?

Yes. Silver Lake Terrace averages about 82 cm of snow, 835 mm of rain, roughly 80 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 99 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
