The crew we had was very competent. I didn't quite understand why they didn't stay in Watertown instead of driving back so far. That didn't make any sense to me. I would like to be close to my work site. They were here some nights until after dark. That's why I'm worried about these leaks. I've got spots on the floor in the attic and on the ceilings in the bedrooms. I thought they were going to soak it down first, but that didn't happen. They did come back to fix a few things, and they were very amicable. It too such a long time, and that made it a little ore difficult. They should have the sales people come out and see the things a worker might run into.

A representative of your company on site. There is no representation of your product on site except for the big arrow sign, not vehicles, clothing etc. Install manager (Jesse) was only here for a few hours for the entire install. One intaller signed off on the job with the leadmans name. Who are these people contracted by you? Why did the installers take a whole case of roofing back with them if I paid for them?

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Watertown Prairie

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Watertown Prairie, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Watertown Prairie.

How does metal roofing handle heavy snow in Watertown Prairie winters?

Interlock metal panels are designed to shed snow effectively while withstanding the structural loads of Wisconsin winters. With about 88 cm of snow annually and 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, your roof faces constant expansion and contraction—aluminum's non-corrosive properties mean it won't degrade from repeated moisture cycles the way asphalt shingles do. The four-way interlocking system creates a unified structure that prevents snow from migrating under panels, and the lightweight design (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) distributes loads evenly without requiring structural upgrades. Optional snow guards can be installed if desired for your specific roof pitch and exposure.

Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum roof in Wisconsin?

No—freeze-thaw cycling is actually where aluminum roofing excels compared to traditional materials. Watertown Prairie experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days annually, which causes asphalt to crack and wood to split, but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and the material itself contains no iron, so it cannot rust or rot from repeated freezing and thawing. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against fading per ASTM D4214) protects the substrate further. Concrete and clay tiles are brittle and prone to spalling in freeze-thaw zones, whereas aluminum flexes slightly and simply sheds meltwater. This durability is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998.

Can a metal roof rust in Wisconsin's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element required for rust formation. Interlock roofing uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and when exposed to air, aluminum instantly forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. If this oxide layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts readily and requires protective coatings that eventually fail. With Watertown Prairie receiving about 775 mm of annual rainfall and gusty winter weather, an aluminum roof's immunity to corrosion means no rust stains, no structural decay, and no coating failures that plague other metal roofing. The Alunar coating on both sides provides additional long-term protection.

Does Interlock metal roofing have hail protection, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior impact resistance may qualify you for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the product's UL listing (33876) and ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) to discuss premium reductions. While Watertown Prairie's climate data shows typical wind gusts around 100 km/h rather than frequent severe hail, the Class 4 rating provides complete peace of mind. Many insurers recognize that aluminum's dent resistance and repairability reduce claim frequency compared to asphalt or wood—it dents rather than cracks, preserving the roof's weather seal.

Will metal roofing blow off in Wisconsin winter storms?

No. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding Watertown Prairie's typical wind gusts near 100 km/h. The interlocking geometry means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a continuous structural unit rather than thousands of independently fastened shingles. This design distributes wind loads across the entire roof assembly. Ice and snow loads add weight that further anchors the roof, and the panels' lightweight design (about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) means even significant accumulation doesn't create uplift risk. Proper installation to the ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification ensures maximum wind performance.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed in nearly all cases. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without upgrades. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) is dramatically lighter than the slate or tile it visually replicates. This lightweight advantage is particularly valuable in Watertown Prairie, where roof systems must already support about 88 cm of annual snow. By eliminating the weight of slate or tile, aluminum roofing actually reduces total structural demand during winter snowfall, freeing capacity and lowering engineering costs compared to upgrading for heavy traditional materials.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require?

Interlock roofing requires minimal maintenance—far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Once installed, aluminum panels do not deteriorate, split, curl, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt shingles do during Watertown Prairie's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles. There are no missing shingles to replace, no moss to clean, and no coatings to reapply. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so color-fastness is guaranteed throughout the typical roof's lifespan. Seasonal gutter cleaning and occasional inspection of trim are all that's needed. Unlike asphalt roofs that require ventilation management to prevent ice dams, or wood shakes prone to insect damage, Interlock's sealed interlocking design and non-combustible aluminum mean structural maintenance costs approach zero.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and at end-of-life (which for Interlock is typically 50+ years), the material returns to the recycling stream rather than a landfill. By contrast, asphalt shingle tear-offs generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually. Interlock's lightweight design also reduces installation waste and transportation emissions. The Guardian Warranty's 50-year transferable term (for the second owner) means fewer roofing cycles per century—fewer tear-offs, fewer landfill entries. energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 reduce cooling demand during Watertown Prairie's approximately 3,074 annual sunshine hours, lowering lifetime energy consumption. The product is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, eliminating the chemical treatments and frequent repairs that asphalt requires.

What's the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and does it transfer to the next owner?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from the installation date. This is extraordinarily valuable: your roof becomes a selling point rather than a liability, and the second owner's peace of mind is backed by a half-century guarantee. Combined with the product's proven 25+ year track record (manufactured since 1998) and real-world durability across harsh environments from salt-air coasts to Antarctic research stations, you're purchasing a last roof for your home and generations beyond.

Is a metal roof fire-safe? Will it help me get insurance discounts?

Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and available in Class A fire classification, the highest rating. This classification is verified under ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (current through 2025 IBC/IRC standards) and helps satisfy building codes in high-risk fire zones. While Watertown Prairie is not in an active wildfire zone, Class A fire rating may qualify you for homeowners insurance discounts and ensures your roof meets or exceeds modern fire safety standards. Unlike asphalt shingles (which are combustible) or wood shakes (which are extremely flammable), aluminum panels provide an inherent fire barrier. This non-combustibility, combined with their hail resistance (UL 2218 Class 4) and wind performance (120 mph warranty), makes Interlock roofing a comprehensive risk-reduction investment that many insurers actively reward.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Watertown Prairie’s climate?

Yes. Watertown Prairie averages about 88 cm of snow, 775 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 100 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
