Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Chicago Heights, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Dear Mark, I would like to provide you some feedback on the first phase of work done on our project at the Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago Heights. Before going into the details of the work perforn1ed, I would like you to know how pleased I was putting together this project with your sale manager, John Mondschean. John’s a pleasure to work with, always prompt, courteous, and clear with feedback and follow-ups. He not only knew his product well but proved to be very helpful in overcoming the various issues of the job. John was able to meet our needs while staying within the budget by offering helpful suggestions and options. I could only hope to have such a knowledgeable, responsible person to work with on future projects. As for the first phase of work, installing a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation over the existing roof, integrating metal flashings and adding badly needed ventilation to the top flat area above our sanctuary. This job was performed by a group of tradesmen that took pride in their workmanship; not only did they arrive at the job site on time each workday, they never left without ensuring that the work site was clean and secure daily. For me, that was a big plus. I watched the installation and was pleased with the care utilized by the workmen. Roofing seams were straight, smooth and clean. Details cuts and welded fitting were secured around each of the skylights with care. I was pleased with your workers and their workmanship as witnessed on the job site. Mark, most of all, I’m pleased to inform you that my biggest pet peeve was adhered to without fault, Safety. Your workmen used proper fall protections with tie-offs, body harnesses, and safety lanyards. All ladders and guards were properly secured. At the completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned, and all scrap materials were removed from the work site. Thank you for a job well done. This job was well-managed and professionally carried out. I look forward to the second phase of our project in the fall.
Looking forward to the next phase of our project.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chicago Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Chicago Heights.
Will a metal roof hold up through Chicago Heights winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without degrading. Chicago Heights experiences about 70 freeze-thaw days annually, and unlike asphalt (which becomes brittle) or wood shakes (which split), roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum simply cycles with the weather. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is rated to resist this stress for 30 years without chalking or fading, measured to ASTM standards. Add the four-way interlocking panels that move as one unit, and your roof stays watertight even when temperatures swing.
Is aluminum roofing really rust-proof, or will it corrode over time?
Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, the element that causes rust. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that seals itself when scratched or exposed. This is why Interlock panels are installed everywhere from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. In Chicago Heights, with about 1042 mm of annual rain and airborne salts from winter road treatments, this is a real advantage: your roof won't deteriorate into the porous, leaking mess asphalt becomes. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rust—a promise no asphalt roof can make.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Chicago Heights?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively because of their smooth, sloped surface and light weight—the Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, letting snow slide cleanly without accumulating and damaging framing. Chicago Heights receives about 68 cm of snow yearly, but a metal roof distributes that load evenly across your structure without needing costly reinforcement. Snow guards can be added if you prefer gradual melt for aesthetics or safety. The interlocking four-way seams prevent water from backing up during freeze-thaw cycles, which cause ice dams under heavier materials.
What happens if hail hits my metal roof, and could it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Chicago Heights sees about 25 km/h typical daily-max winds with gusts to 93 km/h, and while severe hail is less common here than in plains states, this rating provides complete peace of mind. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because claims are so rare; contact your agent with the UL listing (33876) to explore savings. The impact resistance is permanent—it won't degrade over the roof's 50+ year life.
Can a metal roof stay secure during Chicago's wind gusts?
Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Chicago Heights experiences gusts to about 93 km/h (58 mph), well below that threshold. The interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on four sides, distributing wind forces across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This is why metal roofing is approved under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for residential use nationwide—the engineering has been tested and verified. Your roof moves slightly with wind, absorbing energy rather than fighting it.
Do I need to reinforce my house frame before installing metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, designed to visually replicate heavy clay tile, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than genuine tile or concrete. Even older Chicago Heights homes with modest framing can handle this weight. Asphalt shingles average 2–3 lb/sq ft, so you're actually lighter than what your roof may already support. The lightweight design also means Interlock installs over most existing roofs, saving you the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off, and work can proceed faster.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike asphalt (which needs periodic sealing and shingle replacement), wood shakes (which split and rot, especially through Chicago Heights' 70 annual freeze-thaw days), or tile (which cracks and needs mortar repair), Interlock aluminum panels self-heal their oxide layer and never need recoating. Rainfall and wind naturally clean the surface; you may rinse leaves twice yearly. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is rated 30 years against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214), so your roof looks unchanged for decades. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance versus traditional roofing.
Will switching to metal roofing reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84. This matters in Chicago Heights: about 3025 annual sunshine hours mean steady solar gain even in a northern climate. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms that metal reflects heat asphalt absorbs, keeping your attic cooler and reducing air conditioning load. Summer cooling savings vary by color and roof orientation, but reflective coatings are durable—they won't degrade like paint. The energy advantage compounds over a 50-year roof life, offset by the fact you'll never replace it.
What happens to my warranty if I sell my house?
The Guardian Warranty is the only non-prorated, lifetime limited material warranty in residential roofing. You receive lifetime coverage for the original owner; when you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This one-time transfer adds real value at resale—buyers see a roof that will outlast their mortgage and won't need replacement for half a century. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the full spectrum of roof failures. Few products backed by a 50-year transferable promise exist, making this a genuine selling point in Chicago Heights' competitive market.
Is metal roofing worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt but is typically the last roof you'll buy. Over 50+ years, asphalt requires two to three complete tear-off-and-replace cycles (landfill disposal, labor, materials), while Interlock aluminum never needs replacement. Chicago Heights homeowners paying $1,500–$3,000 for asphalt every 20–25 years will spend $3,000–$9,000 total by retirement; metal roofing is a one-time investment spread across five decades. Factor in no maintenance, energy savings from reflective coatings, no structural reinforcement, and a transferable warranty that increases resale value, and the per-year cost is lower. It's the math that matters—not the sticker price.
