Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Matteson, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Dear Mark, I would like to provide you some feedback on the first phase of work done on our project at the Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago Heights. Before going into the details of the work perforn1ed, I would like you to know how pleased I was putting together this project with your sale manager, John Mondschean. John’s a pleasure to work with, always prompt, courteous, and clear with feedback and follow-ups. He not only knew his product well but proved to be very helpful in overcoming the various issues of the job. John was able to meet our needs while staying within the budget by offering helpful suggestions and options. I could only hope to have such a knowledgeable, responsible person to work with on future projects. As for the first phase of work, installing a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation over the existing roof, integrating metal flashings and adding badly needed ventilation to the top flat area above our sanctuary. This job was performed by a group of tradesmen that took pride in their workmanship; not only did they arrive at the job site on time each workday, they never left without ensuring that the work site was clean and secure daily. For me, that was a big plus. I watched the installation and was pleased with the care utilized by the workmen. Roofing seams were straight, smooth and clean. Details cuts and welded fitting were secured around each of the skylights with care. I was pleased with your workers and their workmanship as witnessed on the job site. Mark, most of all, I’m pleased to inform you that my biggest pet peeve was adhered to without fault, Safety. Your workmen used proper fall protections with tie-offs, body harnesses, and safety lanyards. All ladders and guards were properly secured. At the completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned, and all scrap materials were removed from the work site. Thank you for a job well done. This job was well-managed and professionally carried out. I look forward to the second phase of our project in the fall.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Matteson
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Matteson, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Matteson.
Will an aluminum metal roof handle Matteson's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates like Matteson's roughly 70 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt shingles that become brittle in cold, or slate and concrete tile that can crack when water freezes in their pores, aluminum is non-porous and expands and contracts uniformly across the panel without degradation. The four-way interlocking design accommodates minor thermal movement, and the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been proven in far harsher conditions than Cook County's 10.7°C average temperature. You'll see no checking, splitting, or loss of structural integrity.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in northern Illinois winters?
Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because their smooth, interlocked panels create a low-friction surface and excellent water drainage—critical when Matteson receives about 68 cm of snow annually. The lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means accumulated snow never creates structural stress even during wet snow events. Interlock's panels can be fitted with snow guards if you prefer slower shedding for safety. The tight interlocking seals and underlayment system prevent the water that does back up behind ice dams from infiltrating into the roof structure or attic, unlike traditional shingles where ice-dam leaks are common.
Why can't an Interlock aluminum roof rust, and why does that matter in Illinois?
Aluminum contains no iron, the element that causes rust, so it's chemically impossible for it to rust under any atmospheric condition. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the underlying metal; when scratched, this oxide layer self-heals within days. This matters in Matteson because steel roofing, despite its initial cost savings, requires paint maintenance and eventually fails in the presence of moisture and fluctuating temperatures—exactly what Matteson's 1042 mm annual rainfall delivers. Your aluminum roof will never need rust treatment, patching, or early replacement due to corrosion, making it truly a permanent structure.
Can an Interlock metal roof withstand the winds and gusts common in Cook County?
Absolutely. Matteson experiences typical daily winds around 25 km/h with gusts reaching about 93 km/h, all well within the warranty coverage of Interlock panels, which resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system—each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides—distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This design has performed through ice storms, derechos, and nor'easters. Your roof won't lift, flutter, or fail under Cook County's typical storm conditions.
Does a metal roof shaped like slate or tile need extra structural support under my home?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, is about 96% lighter than the concrete or clay tile it replicates, weighing roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—the equivalent of a few shingles per square foot. This extraordinary lightness means Matteson homeowners can install a metal roof over most existing asphalt or wood-shake roofing without adding support beams, trusses, or costly framing upgrades. Your home's existing structure, designed to carry real slate or tile, handles Interlock aluminum with room to spare. That savings in labor and engineering translates directly to your bottom line.
With Matteson getting over 1000 mm of rain per year, how well does a metal roof keep water out?
Metal roofing is engineered for exactly this climate. Matteson's 1042 mm annual rainfall is handled by the interlocking panel design—water runs downslope and exits through the interlocked seams faster than it can accumulate. Underlayment and ice-and-water shield layers add redundancy, so even if water somehow breaches the top surface (extremely rare with aluminum's smooth profile), a secondary barrier directs it safely away. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation to specification, and Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers any leaks from manufacturing defect, material failure, or improper installation. You're protected against the heaviest rainfall Cook County throws at you.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt shingles, wood shake, or tile?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV rays and temperature cycling, requiring moss treatment, gutter cleaning, and nail-pop repairs every 3–5 years. Wood shake splits and rots. Tile cracks and needs repointing. Interlock aluminum's Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) is factory-applied to both panel sides, resisting weathering far longer than field-applied coatings. Periodic gutter cleaning and debris removal are all that's needed. No sealing, no patching, no re-coating—just inspect after severe weather. Your time and money stay in your pocket.
Does Interlock metal roofing hold up to hail, and can it lower my homeowners insurance?
Yes on both counts. Interlock panels carry the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's inherent hardness and the panel geometry distribute impact force, resisting denting and cracking far better than asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions see insurance premium reductions or discounts for Class 4 roofing. Contact your agent with the product specs; they often recognize the reduced risk. In Cook County, where severe convective storms are possible, that impact resistance and insurance recognition represent real financial protection.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost if I plan to stay in my Matteson home long-term?
Yes—over the roof's life, aluminum is the lowest-cost option. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but last 15–20 years and need frequent repairs; you'll replace it 2–3 times before your metal roof reaches mid-life. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty (Guardian Warranty) covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and impact loss for your ownership and transfers 50 years to the next owner. Add in zero maintenance, no hail damage risk, no storm damage from Matteson's 93 km/h gusts, and the energy savings from reflective coatings, and the aluminum roof outperforms asphalt economically by tens of thousands of dollars. This is the last roof you buy.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing actually serve Matteson, and who handles installation?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and is the manufacturer, installer, and warranty partner—not a franchisee or third-party contractor. That means direct accountability for material quality, installation precision, and warranty support. Your local team knows Matteson's climate, building codes, and typical roof conditions. They'll assess whether your roof can accept an overlay (often yes, thanks to aluminum's 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft weight), handle permitting, manage the timeline professionally, and stand behind their work. When you call, you reach the people who actually do the job.
