Review: January 25, 2016 Completion: December 30, 2016

Dear Mark, I would like to provide you some feedback on the first phase of work done on our project at the Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago Heights. Before going into the details of the work perforn1ed, I would like you to know how pleased I was putting together this project with your sale manager, John Mondschean. John’s a pleasure to work with, always prompt, courteous, and clear with feedback and follow-ups. He not only knew his product well but proved to be very helpful in overcoming the various issues of the job. John was able to meet our needs while staying within the budget by offering helpful suggestions and options. I could only hope to have such a knowledgeable, responsible person to work with on future projects. As for the first phase of work, installing a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation over the existing roof, integrating metal flashings and adding badly needed ventilation to the top flat area above our sanctuary. This job was performed by a group of tradesmen that took pride in their workmanship; not only did they arrive at the job site on time each workday, they never left without ensuring that the work site was clean and secure daily. For me, that was a big plus. I watched the installation and was pleased with the care utilized by the workmen. Roofing seams were straight, smooth and clean. Details cuts and welded fitting were secured around each of the skylights with care. I was pleased with your workers and their workmanship as witnessed on the job site. Mark, most of all, I’m pleased to inform you that my biggest pet peeve was adhered to without fault, Safety. Your workmen used proper fall protections with tie-offs, body harnesses, and safety lanyards. All ladders and guards were properly secured. At the completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned, and all scrap materials were removed from the work site. Thank you for a job well done. This job was well-managed and professionally carried out. I look forward to the second phase of our project in the fall.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Park Forest

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Park Forest, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Park Forest.

Will a metal roof hold up through Park Forest's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw environments. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl when water seeps in and freezes, aluminum's oxide layer seals the surface; it won't absorb water, so ice expansion can't damage it from within. Park Forest averages about 70 freeze-thaw days per year, and that's exactly the climate where aluminum's non-porous nature pays off. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and curling for the lifetime of the original owner, giving you peace of mind through decades of your region's temperature swings.

How does Interlock Metal Roofing handle heavy snow in Illinois?

The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to shed snow efficiently without pooling water underneath. Park Forest receives about 68 cm of snow annually, along with roughly 1042 mm of rain, so your roof needs to move moisture off quickly—metal's smooth surface does that naturally. The panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to spec, so snow guards stay secure even during gusts reaching 93 km/h. Aluminum's weight—roughly 0.41 to 0.59 lb per square foot depending on profile—means your home's structure carries no additional burden from accumulated snow.

Does Interlock Metal Roofing qualify for hail damage insurance discounts?

Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam profiles all carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this superior rating and offer premium reductions for metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report to explore savings. In a region experiencing occasional severe weather, that combination of impact resistance and documentation can translate to real year-over-year savings.

What's the real lifespan of Interlock Metal Roofing, and what does the warranty cover?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That's your roof for life—not 20 or 30 years like asphalt. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding substantial resale appeal. Aluminum manufactured to ASTM B209 roofing-grade specs has a proven track record since 1998 in climates far harsher than Park Forest's 10.7°C mean temperature and 70 annual freeze-thaw days. You're essentially buying the last roof your home will need.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Interlock's aluminum requires virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt shingles (which crack and lose granules), wood shakes (which split and rot), or clay tile (which breaks easily). The four-way interlocking panels shed debris and moisture; the Alunar coating resists dirt and weathering. Park Forest's 3025 sunshine hours and 1042 mm annual rainfall won't degrade the finish—it's verified CALGreen-compliant for reduced maintenance. Many owners simply rinse gutters occasionally. No algae growth, no granule loss, no seasonal repairs. That translates to lower long-term costs and fewer service calls over your roof's lifetime.

Is Interlock Metal Roofing more affordable than asphalt over the long run?

Initial cost is higher than asphalt, but over the roof's life you're comparing a single installation to multiple tear-offs and replacements. Asphalt typically lasts 15-25 years; Interlock is lifetime. Factor in asphalt's labor-intensive removal, landfill disposal, and reinstallation every 20 years, then add Interlock's zero maintenance and transferable 50-year warranty to the second owner. For Park Forest, where you're exposed to 70 freeze-thaw cycles annually—which accelerates asphalt degradation—the math favors aluminum within two full asphalt cycles. You're also avoiding the cost of ongoing repairs that freeze-thaw and UV exposure demand from shingles.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at roughly 0.59 lb per square foot, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your home's framing was engineered to carry asphalt (which weighs roughly 2-3 lb/sq ft), so metal is a significant reduction in load. Installation can happen directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, saving time and cost. For Park Forest homes with typical lumber-frame construction, this lightweight approach means no additional bracing, no engineering review, and no surprises during installation—the aluminum simply replaces your old roof.

Is metal roofing really more environmentally responsible?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and breaks the asphalt-to-landfill cycle. Every asphalt shingle removal in Park Forest sends roughly 2-3 tons of material per 1000 sq ft to landfills, where it sits for decades. Interlock's aluminum can be reclaimed and reused indefinitely without losing properties. The alloy is roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 per ASTM B209, engineered for durability—so your roof won't need replacement for generations, further reducing waste. With 3025 annual sunshine hours in Park Forest, energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 also reduce cooling demand. One lifetime roof beats four asphalt roofs recycled or dumped.

Will a metal roof stay secure in Park Forest's wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Park Forest's typical gusts reach about 93 km/h (58 mph), well below that threshold. The interlocking design means each panel mechanically fastens to its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the whole assembly rather than relying on nails or adhesive alone. This approach is backed by ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance). During severe weather—spring thunderstorms, occasional derechos—your roof stays anchored. That engineering confidence translates into fewer insurance claims and zero anxiety during weather alerts.

Does Interlock Metal Roofing serve Park Forest, Illinois?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the Cook County region, including Park Forest, since 2001. Our local team knows Illinois winters, the regional building codes (verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790), and the specific challenges of freeze-thaw climates. We install all five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam—and back every installation with The Guardian lifetime limited warranty. When you work with a local installer with 20+ years in the region, you get faster scheduling, easier follow-up, and a partner who understands your neighborhood's conditions and architectural character.
