Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for South Chicago Heights, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Dear Mark, I would like to provide you some feedback on the first phase of work done on our project at the Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago Heights. Before going into the details of the work perforn1ed, I would like you to know how pleased I was putting together this project with your sale manager, John Mondschean. John’s a pleasure to work with, always prompt, courteous, and clear with feedback and follow-ups. He not only knew his product well but proved to be very helpful in overcoming the various issues of the job. John was able to meet our needs while staying within the budget by offering helpful suggestions and options. I could only hope to have such a knowledgeable, responsible person to work with on future projects. As for the first phase of work, installing a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation over the existing roof, integrating metal flashings and adding badly needed ventilation to the top flat area above our sanctuary. This job was performed by a group of tradesmen that took pride in their workmanship; not only did they arrive at the job site on time each workday, they never left without ensuring that the work site was clean and secure daily. For me, that was a big plus. I watched the installation and was pleased with the care utilized by the workmen. Roofing seams were straight, smooth and clean. Details cuts and welded fitting were secured around each of the skylights with care. I was pleased with your workers and their workmanship as witnessed on the job site. Mark, most of all, I’m pleased to inform you that my biggest pet peeve was adhered to without fault, Safety. Your workmen used proper fall protections with tie-offs, body harnesses, and safety lanyards. All ladders and guards were properly secured. At the completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned, and all scrap materials were removed from the work site. Thank you for a job well done. This job was well-managed and professionally carried out. I look forward to the second phase of our project in the fall.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Chicago Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Chicago Heights, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Chicago Heights.
Will a metal roof handle South Chicago Heights' freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens in repeated freeze-thaw stress. Cook County experiences about 70 freeze-thaw days annually, and roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or degrading like asphalt or wood shingles do. The four-way interlocking panels accommodate movement while staying sealed, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years) resists the salt-laden winter air common to Illinois regions near Lake Michigan. Aluminum simply does not absorb moisture or develop stress fractures from thermal cycling.
How does an Interlock metal roof perform under South Chicago Heights' annual snowfall?
The smooth, slippery surface of Interlock panels naturally sheds snow and ice, preventing dangerous accumulation and the ice damming that traps water beneath asphalt shingles. South Chicago Heights averages about 68 cm of snow yearly; the interlocking design channels meltwater directly away. Because aluminum Shake or Slate profiles weigh only 0.58 and 0.41 lb/sq ft respectively—about 96% lighter than real slate or concrete tile—your roof can safely carry peak snow loads without structural reinforcement. Pairing your choice of profile with optional snow guards gives you both safety and water management without adding weight your framing cannot handle.
Can an Interlock metal roof withstand Chicago-area wind gusts and storms?
Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. South Chicago Heights typically experiences gusts around 93 km/h; Interlock's design far exceeds that. Each panel locks on all four sides—top, bottom, left, right—so wind pressure cannot lift or separate them. The warranty covers wind damage, and the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms code compliance for high-wind zones. This engineering means your roof stays intact through the spring and summer storms that regularly test roofs across Cook County.
Does a metal roof qualify for hail damage insurance coverage or discounts in Illinois?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This top rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the roof resists damage that would destroy asphalt or wood shingles. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification; many carriers recognize this as a loss-prevention upgrade. In regions where hail is an annual risk, insurers see durable, non-degrading aluminum as a lower-claims material. Combined with impact resistance and a lifetime limited warranty, Interlock metal roofing shifts the risk away from you and toward a product that genuinely withstands severe weather.
What does the Interlock warranty actually cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from project completion, making your roof investment a selling point. No other roofing material matches this promise: asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and go into landfills; wood shakes split and decay; slate and tile crack and break. Aluminum, installed in 1998 and still performing at Antarctic research stations, proves longevity that spans decades. When you choose Interlock, you're buying your last roof.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?
Aluminum requires almost none. Unlike asphalt shingles, which lose granules, curl, and split over 15–20 years in South Chicago Heights' 70 annual freeze-thaw days, Interlock panels do not degrade from temperature cycling. Wood shakes absorb the region's 1042 mm of annual rainfall, rot, and require constant treatment; aluminum is non-porous. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214), meaning no repainting or sealing. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal suffice—the same maintenance any roof needs. No moss treatment, no granule replacement, no emergency repairs from split shakes or buckled asphalt.
Is the upfront cost of a metal roof worth it over the life of the roof?
Over 50+ years, aluminum costs far less than the asphalt shingle cycle—typically three to four replacements at $5,000–$10,000 each, plus disposal fees and the disruption of repeat installations. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty means you finance one roof, not three. Energy-efficient profiles reduce cooling costs in summer: energy-efficiency colors reflect up to 0.55 of solar energy (vs asphalt's near-zero reflectance), lowering your AC load during South Chicago Heights' 3025 annual sunshine hours. When you sell, metal roofing adds resale value and attracts buyers tired of 15-year replacement cycles. The math is straightforward: one premium installation beats decades of patching, replacing, and landfill fees.
Can Interlock metal roofing be installed over my existing roof?
Yes, in most cases. Because Interlock panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than slate or concrete tile—they install directly over existing asphalt shingles or wood shakes without structural reinforcement. This saves the cost and mess of a full tear-off and eliminates a trip to the landfill. Your local installer, serving the region since 2001, assesses your roof deck during a site visit to confirm suitability; steep or compromised decks may require prep work. The installation typically completes in days, not weeks, and because no heavy materials are being hoisted, the process is faster and safer than traditional roofing. Ask your installer about timeline and whether your home qualifies for the overlay method.
Will a metal roof keep my house cooler in summer and reduce energy bills?
Yes. energy-efficiency-certified Interlock profiles reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt. The coating's thermal emissivity is 0.84 and initial solar reflectance reaches 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning more energy leaves your roof than enters your home. During South Chicago Heights' 3025 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance cuts cooling demand significantly. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable heat reduction. You'll notice the difference most on hot days when outdoor air and sun intensity peak; your AC runs less, your utility bill drops, and your home stays more comfortable without compromising style—Interlock profiles look like slate, cedar, shake, or tile, not a reflective warehouse roof. Energy savings compound over decades.
Is Interlock metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life (50+ years away), your roof becomes feedstock for new products, not a landfill burden. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–20 years and dumped en masse—South Chicago Heights alone removes hundreds of tons yearly. Over your roof's lifetime, you'll avoid four or five tear-off cycles, each producing waste, truck traffic, and disposal costs. Interlock's manufacturing in Delta, BC uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), materials with decades of supply chains optimized for recycling. Choosing a 50-year roof breaks the asphalt replacement treadmill and redirects materials away from landfills into the circular economy.
