| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
They need a project manager on-site somewhere in the process. Feedback for #1 - We are happy with the product, but not happy with the process in terms of zero communication after they started working on the roof. No one spoke English.
This past Fall I began soliciting bids for stripping off two layers of shingles on my 23-year old shingle family home and replacing the "worn" shingles with a new layer of fiberglass shingle. You may ask, since the home was "only" 23 years old, why there was already two layers of shingles and how come the top layer was now in need of replacement! Believe me, I was asking the same questions. Granted, we had not paid (directly) for either layer of shingle since they both were on the home when we purchased it, but it was still a concern of mine with respect to the fiberglass shingle industry. My wife and I have owned this home for nine years and, when we initially moved in, we had the home vinyl-sided and replaced most of the windows with energy efficient, up-and-down windows as opposed to the then crank-out windows. The then existing roof shingles had excellent curl-appeal when viewed against the newly installed vinyl siding and window shutters, so much so that passersby thought we had the roof re-shingled as well. So, in our search for new shingle, we sought out a shingle that would have that same curb appeal as well as longevity. Well, we could not find anything that came close to providing us with the idea that, "Yeah, this one will look great on our home and last a long time." This Spring I responded to a newspaper advertisement I'd seen and a mailing that I received regarding the installation of a ">metal roof. Certainly, installation of a ">metal roof in our "neck of the woods," where there is some pricey real estate, was something of an oddity. However, I did some research on ">metal roofs over the Internet and found myself intrigued and please by what I read. My wife and I met with Interlock Industries, Inc. sales representative Gerry Matta, and he explained the concept and longevity of a metal roof, its energy-savings benefit, and more specifically, showed us the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">colors and Interlock design afforded by their product known on the internet as NewEnglandsBestRoof.com. After hearing the sales presentation, my wife and I were intent on seeing two homes within 20 miles of our home that had the same color metal roof we anticipated purchasing for our home. Let me tell you, after viewing the exterior of those homes, we definitely had made up our minds that we were going to be the first in our neighborhood with an Interlock ">shingle metal roof because it was going to afford us with fabulous curb appeal for our home. Well, now that the stripping off of the deteriorating fibreglass shingles and the installation of the "" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile red" Interlock shingle has been completed, our home is now a showcase for the metal roof industry. We have had numerous compliments from family and neighbors regarding the beauty of the home with the new Interlock shingle installed. We have had many vehicles pass roadside and slow down to view our home and several inquiries form those motorists as to where we obtained the beautiful roof. Thank you to Interlock Industries, Inc. for creating a product that allows my family to have the satisfaction to know that we will never have to replace roof shingles again, will save money on yearly heating and cooling bills, and, more importantly, have a home that truly has a dynamic curb appeal. It's just beautiful!! Thanks again.
I worked during the project and did not know when they would finish. It happened that I was almost home when they called to let me know they were done , so they could take the balance of payment, but they might have had to wait for a quite a while had I not been almost home or had plans. Having some idea of the time I should be home would have been helpful. We were told the metal roofing was not noisier, but it is. I don't know if it is the metal, or the removal of 2 layers of asphalt, or the quality of the rain we had, but there was definitely a little more noise.Otherwise, good job guys!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Boston Road
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Boston Road, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Boston Road.
Does a metal roof handle Boston Road's snow and ice buildup better than asphalt?
Yes — aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt's granular texture. With about 77 cm of snow annually and roughly 92 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Hampden County, that matters. Snow clings to asphalt and traps moisture; it slides off metal. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 127 km/h, so heavy snow sliding during thaw won't compromise the seams. Add snow guards if you want control. Asphalt gets weaker with each freeze-thaw cycle; aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched by ice or debris.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Massachusetts damage a metal roof over time?
No — freeze-thaw is actually where aluminum excels compared to asphalt, wood, and tile. Hampden County experiences about 92 freeze-thaw days annually, which degrades asphalt's binder and causes wood to split and concrete tile to micro-crack. Aluminum (ASTM B209 roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy) expands and contracts uniformly without degrading. It contains no iron, so it cannot rust or rot. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, protects both sides of each panel — crucial in salt air and freeze-thaw climates. Your roof simply ages, never weakens.
How does Interlock Metal Roofing handle Boston Road's annual rainfall of 1,100+ millimeters?
The four-way interlocking panels create an overlapping surface that sheds water downward and outward; there's no gap where rain can pool or work sideways under the roof. With roughly 1,117 mm of rain per year, that constant overlap is critical. When installed over solid decking with underlayment (which most existing roofs have), the system works like asphalt — water runs off the top, and any splash gets caught underneath. The panels are ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) and CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Aluminum won't rot or absorb water like wood or asphalt do, so the structure beneath stays dry for decades.
Can a metal roof reduce my homeowners insurance or survive hail in New England?
Metal roofing often qualifies for insurance discounts due to impact resistance and fire classification. Interlock's panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hampden County's climate includes wind gusts to 127 km/h, which can drive hail horizontally; Class 4 handles that. Call your insurer with the UL 2218 rating and Class A fire availability (non-combustible aluminum) — many underwriters reward both. Unlike asphalt, which fails silently under impact and leaks years later, metal shows damage clearly and maintains its warranty coverage. Check with your agent; some customers see 10–20% premium reductions.
Is my home's frame strong enough for a metal roof, or do I need structural upgrades?
Almost certainly yes — no upgrades needed. Interlock's aluminum Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Compare that to asphalt shingles at roughly 2–2.5 lb/sq ft, and metal is often the same weight or lighter. Most homes in Boston Road were framed to handle asphalt plus snow load (77 cm annually in Hampden County). Since metal doesn't add weight, it installs directly over your existing roof in most cases — no teardown, no structural engineer, no cost surprise. A professional assessment during your free estimate confirms it, but homes that already carry asphalt can carry aluminum metal roofing.
Will a metal roof blow off in New England windstorms?
No — the four-way interlocking design and fastening system are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Hampden County's typical gusts reach 127 km/h with peaks higher during storms, and ice-laden snow can act like a sail; Interlock's overlap-lock profile prevents any panel from lifting. Unlike asphalt, where wind peels shingles one by one, metal panels are mechanically locked to each other — the system holds as one. If one fastener were to fail, the adjacent panels stay anchored. ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms code compliance for high-wind areas. The warranty covers wind damage if installed to specification, which your local installer knows.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel metal roofing, and does it matter in Massachusetts?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust is iron oxide, and there's no iron to oxidize. Steel roofing requires paint or coatings to prevent rust, especially near salt air (coastal influence). Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides (30-year warranty against fading). When scratched, aluminum forms a new self-healing oxide layer in hours. In Hampden County's 1,117 mm annual rainfall and 92 freeze-thaw cycles, moisture is constant; a steel roof would require touch-up painting every 5–10 years. Aluminum ages but never corrodes — the finish protects the metal, and the metal cannot betray you.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?
Virtually none. Asphalt requires gutter cleaning after windstorms, moss treatment in damp climates, and granule loss inspection every few years — with 1,117 mm of rainfall annually in Boston Road, moisture promotes algae and granule washout. Tile needs cracked-piece replacement, re-mortaring, and regular inspection. Interlock aluminum needs only the same gutter maintenance as any roof and an occasional rinse to remove pollen (3,077 sunshine hours per year means easy drying). The panels don't rot, crack, split, curl, or lose structural integrity — the Guardian Warranty covers all of those on asphalt and tile. No sealant reapplication, no granule replacement, no moss treatment. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced-maintenance advantage.
Is a metal roof really more sustainable than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. When your current roof fails, removal and disposal costs hundreds or thousands; the debris goes to landfill. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable — they're melted down and reused indefinitely. Installed since 1998 in Delta, BC, and now on everything from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, the panels last decades longer than asphalt, so the total material waste per year of roof life is minimal. Hampden County's 1,117 mm annual rainfall accelerates asphalt degradation; aluminum's non-degrading aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and self-healing oxide layer mean no premature replacement. When your metal roof eventually reaches end-of-life, it goes to recycling, not the dump.
Is a metal roof worth the cost over the life of my home?
Yes — the math favors metal over 40–50 years. Asphalt costs less upfront but fails every 15–20 years; you buy three asphalt roofs before one metal roof needs replacement. Labor, disposal, and tear-off compound the cost. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years — meaning resale value increases and future buyers see a permanent roof. With Boston Road's 1,117 mm annual rainfall and 92 freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt ages faster than average. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Metal roofing is the last roof you buy; that's the value.
