Review: February 2, 2020 Completion: January 24, 2020

I worked during the project and did not know when they would finish. It happened that I was almost home when they called to let me know they were done , so they could take the balance of payment, but they might have had to wait for a quite a while had I not been almost home or had plans. Having some idea of the time I should be home would have been helpful. We were told the metal roofing was not noisier, but it is. I don't know if it is the metal, or the removal of 2 layers of asphalt, or the quality of the rain we had, but there was definitely a little more noise.Otherwise, good job guys!

They need a project manager on-site somewhere in the process. Feedback for #1 - We are happy with the product, but not happy with the process in terms of zero communication after they started working on the roof. No one spoke English.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Longmeadow

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Longmeadow.

Will a metal roof handle the freeze-thaw cycles we get in East Longmeadow?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. With about 92 freeze-thaw days per year and roughly 77 cm of snow, your roof needs a material that won't absorb moisture, crack, or degrade as temperatures swing. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so it won't rust or rot through repeated cycles. The four-way interlocking panels shed water instantly, leaving nothing to freeze and expand inside seams. Where asphalt becomes brittle and wood splits, aluminum stays intact.

How does an Interlock metal roof handle snow buildup and ice dams?

The smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles. With about 77 cm of snow annually in East Longmeadow, you'll notice ice dams form less often because the metal conducts and radiates heat more evenly, and water runs off before it can refreeze at the eave. The panels don't trap moisture, so ice doesn't bond as strongly. Optional snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent it sliding onto walkways—it's your choice, not a structural necessity.

Will heavy rain damage an Interlock metal roof, or cause leaks over time?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels overlap so tightly that water has no path into your home, even during East Longmeadow's typical rainfall of about 1117 mm per year. The seams are mechanical—no sealant to dry out or fail—so they remain watertight for decades. The solid deck and underlayment beneath the metal create a complete water barrier. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs water and degrades, or wood, which rots from moisture, aluminum simply sheds it. You're buying a roof that won't leak, period.

Does hail damage metal roofs, and could I save on homeowner's insurance?

Interlock metal roofs are rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In East Longmeadow, where wind gusts reach 127 km/h and severe weather can happen, that rating matters. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on premiums because claims for impact damage drop dramatically. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification; they may reduce your rate, offsetting some of your installation cost over the first few years alone.

Can a metal roof withstand the wind gusts we get here?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. East Longmeadow's typical wind gusts reach 127 km/h, well within that threshold. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks into its neighbors on all sides—there's no lip or edge for wind to catch and peel. The panels stay put in severe weather that would lift and tear asphalt shingles. You'll sleep soundly during nor'easters and thunderstorms.

Why won't an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—period. Steel roofs corrode when iron oxidizes, especially in damp climates with snow and freeze-thaw cycles. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides for extra salt-air protection. The oxide layer that forms on aluminum is self-healing; even if scratched during installation, it rebuilds itself. In East Longmeadow's 1117 mm annual rainfall and 92 freeze-thaw days, that means your roof will never rust, corrode, or require rust treatment.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so your existing framing handles it easily. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is a fraction of what traditional materials weigh. This means you can install Interlock over your existing roof, saving money on tear-off and disposal. Lighter loads also reduce stress on your home's structure over the roof's 50+ year lifespan, a real benefit in a region with heavy snow loading.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually need?

Very little. Unlike asphalt shingles (which granulate and require periodic replacement), wood shakes (which split and rot), or clay tile (which cracks), aluminum doesn't degrade from weather, UV, or moisture. Rinse off debris twice a year if you want; that's it. The Alunar coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, so color stays vibrant. No moss treatment, no re-nailing, no sealant reapplication. With East Longmeadow's 3077 annual sunshine hours, your roof will retain its appearance better than any traditional material, and your time goes to your family, not ladder work.

How long will my metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the failure modes that plague every other roofing material. It's non-prorated, meaning if something fails at year 25, you're not paying a percentage of the cost. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, a huge selling point if you move. Combined with aluminum's durability in freeze-thaw climates and the 30-year coating guarantee, you're buying the last roof you'll ever need to install.

Do metal roofs really reduce cooling costs, and does that matter in Massachusetts?

Yes, even in Massachusetts. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and converts to cooling demand. With 3077 sunshine hours per year in East Longmeadow, that reflection cuts attic temperatures noticeably in summer, reducing air-conditioner runtime. You won't see savings like southern states do, but summer cooling bills drop, especially if your attic is vented. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance. Over 50 years, that's real money back in your pocket.
