Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Le Sueur Township, Minnesota
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
The communication is incredibly poor, mind-boggling poor. I would suggest improving the communication. I still haven't received my warranty or final payment statement. The sign is still in my yard. I don't want to throw it away. It's a nice big sign, and I'm sure they would like to use it. I didn't threaten them with anything.
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
They were courteous and very efficient. They did a fine job.
They could have improved on the scheduling.
I have no feedback for this rating. I felt they could have improved in communication, specifically a few days notice before the start date. There is nothing else I would like to share.
Communication about the date of the project was difficult to ascertain. The crew was very hard working, courteous and kept the job site clean, but they cut down branches of a tree in my front yard that made me extremely upset.
Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.
They could have improved on communication.
Interlock Roofing- Minneapolis is a very professional team for installation and quality of material! We are very happy! Considering the quality and endurance of the material, the cost isn't high in the long run. It absolutely makes the product much more feasible and reasonable than shingles!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Le Sueur Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Le Sueur Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Le Sueur Township.
Does metal roofing handle Minnesota snow loads and ice dams?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed snow effectively and resist the weight of Le Sueur Township's typical 92 cm annual snowfall. The smooth, slippery surface naturally promotes snow slide-off, reducing ice dam formation that occurs when heat melts snow on less conductive materials. Because aluminum transfers temperature differently than asphalt, ice buildup is minimized even during the region's frequent freeze-thaw cycles—about 78 days annually. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding onto a specific area.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage aluminum roofing?
Aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it doesn't absorb moisture and has no iron to rust. Le Sueur Township experiences roughly 78 freeze-thaw days per year—a condition that cracks asphalt, splits cedar shake, and degrades most materials. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and its Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) resists the salt and moisture that accompany freeze-thaw cycling. The material simply expands and contracts without degradation, which is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations.
Can aluminum roofing rust in a snowy climate?
No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. This is why Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), not steel. In Le Sueur Township's snowfall-heavy environment (about 773 mm rain and 92 cm snow annually), this distinction matters: corrosion from salt, moisture, and freeze-thaw cycles is the leading failure mode for steel roofs, but aluminum panels remain structurally intact. The Alunar coating on both sides of the panel adds another 30-year defense layer against environmental degradation.
Does aluminum metal roofing require structural reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without engineering upgrades. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) is negligible compared to traditional materials. This matters in Le Sueur Township where older homes may have wooden trusses designed for asphalt shingles; aluminum roofing simply doesn't impose the crushing weight that would necessitate costly structural work. The four-way interlocking panels also distribute loads evenly, adding to their structural efficiency.
Can metal roofing withstand Minnesota wind and gusts?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Le Sueur Township's typical daily-max winds average 23 km/h with gusts reaching 103 km/h, well within the product's tested range. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors horizontally and vertically, preventing uplift or flutter during strong weather. This design, combined with proper fastening, creates a unified system far more resistant to wind failure than single-locked or non-interlocking metal roofing. For a region that experiences occasional severe gusts, this engineering detail translates to roof longevity.
What hail protection does metal roofing offer in Minnesota?
Interlock aluminum roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 testing involves steel ball drops from 20 feet, simulating severe hail impact. Because aluminum is dent-resistant and non-brittle (unlike asphalt, wood, or tile, which crack or shatter), it withstands hail storms that would require costly repairs to traditional roofs. Some insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated metal roofing, offsetting installation cost. For a region with convective storm potential like Le Sueur Township, this resilience reduces long-term risk.
What's the real lifespan warranty on metal roofing?
Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also transferable once: the next owner receives 50 years from completion date. Non-prorated means the warranty doesn't diminish over time—a major difference from asphalt shingles, which lose coverage year-by-year. The Alunar coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. When combined with aluminum's corrosion immunity in Le Sueur Township's freeze-thaw climate (78 days annually), this warranty reflects genuine product durability, not marketing.
How much maintenance does metal roofing need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires dramatically less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles demand frequent inspections and repairs as they curl, crack, and lose granules—especially under Le Sueur Township's 92 cm annual snow load and 78 freeze-thaw days. Cedar shake splits and rots in moisture-rich climates. Aluminum panels shed debris naturally, resist mold and algae, and don't deteriorate from UV exposure (the 30-year Alunar coating protects against fading). Gutters may need seasonal clearing, but the roof itself requires only occasional visual checks. Over 50 years, the maintenance cost difference becomes substantial—another reason Interlock roofs end the cycle of tear-off and replacement.
Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Yes—Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each designed to replicate the visual character of traditional materials. Slate offers clean lines and prestige; Cedar Shingle and Shake provide rustic wood texture; Mediterranean Tile delivers old-world charm; Standing Seam suits contemporary aesthetics. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels weigh a fraction of real slate or tile (the Tile profile is ~96% lighter), so you get authentic appearance without structural strain. All profiles accept the same Alunar coating, available in multiple colors. This means you can choose the look that suits your home's architecture while gaining aluminum's durability for Le Sueur Township's demanding climate.
Is metal roofing environmentally better than asphalt shingles?
Yes—Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that occurs every 15–20 years. When an asphalt roof fails, it becomes waste; aluminum panels are recovered and reused indefinitely. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock's proven longevity (lifetime warranty, non-prorated) means fewer replacements over your lifetime. In Le Sueur Township, where annual snowfall and freeze-thaw cycling (78 days per year) accelerate asphalt degradation, a roof that lasts 50+ years instead of 15–20 dramatically cuts waste. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance burden and resource consumption.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Le Sueur Township’s climate?
Yes. Le Sueur Township averages about 92 cm of snow, 773 mm of rain, roughly 78 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 103 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
