What our customers are saying:
The communication is incredibly poor, mind-boggling poor. I would suggest improving the communication. I still haven't received my warranty or final payment statement. The sign is still in my yard. I don't want to throw it away. It's a nice big sign, and I'm sure they would like to use it. I didn't threaten them with anything.
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
They were courteous and very efficient. They did a fine job.
They could have improved on the scheduling.
I have no feedback for this rating. I felt they could have improved in communication, specifically a few days notice before the start date. There is nothing else I would like to share.
Communication about the date of the project was difficult to ascertain. The crew was very hard working, courteous and kept the job site clean, but they cut down branches of a tree in my front yard that made me extremely upset.
Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.
They could have improved on communication.
Interlock Roofing- Minneapolis is a very professional team for installation and quality of material! We are very happy! Considering the quality and endurance of the material, the cost isn't high in the long run. It absolutely makes the product much more feasible and reasonable than shingles!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Richmond
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Richmond, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Richmond.
How does a metal roof handle Richmond's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Interlock aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because their smooth, interlocking design prevents ice dams—the root cause of winter damage in Minnesota. With about 97 cm of snow annually and roughly 78 freeze-thaw days per year, your roof faces constant expansion and contraction. Aluminum's non-corrosive nature means repeated freezing and thawing won't degrade the material; the oxide layer that protects it simply heals itself when stressed. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle in cold, or wood shakes, which split, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum flexes with thermal cycling without loss of structural integrity.
Why won't an Interlock aluminum roof rust like a steel metal roof?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in steel. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. When the surface scratches, this protective layer reforms automatically. Steel roofs, by contrast, require ongoing maintenance and eventually corrode. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy and are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, extending protection even further and warranted for 30 years against fading and chalking—critical in a region receiving about 3,164 annual sunshine hours.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Richmond's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a unified system warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph—far exceeding Le Sueur County's typical gust speeds of about 107 km/h (66 mph). The interlocking mechanism distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners, which is why individual panels cannot be lifted or separated by wind pressure. This engineering also means the roof performs consistently whether gusts strike from the north or west, a real advantage in Minnesota's variable storm patterns.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is necessary. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile at about 0.58 lb/sq ft creates negligible additional load. This lightweight design allows installation over most existing roofs without adding stress to framing or foundation, saving thousands in structural work. The same durability and 30-year coating warranty apply whether you're installing over an old asphalt roof or bare decking.
What hail protection does Interlock roofing offer, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. With Richmond's exposure to severe weather, this non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner provides peace of mind most asphalt roofs cannot match. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact performance and offer premium discounts for roofs meeting this standard. Because aluminum's impact resistance doesn't degrade over time (unlike asphalt's), your coverage advantage grows year after year.
What does the Interlock warranty actually cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—conditions that plague asphalt, wood, and traditional tile roofs. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner with a 50-year coverage term from completion date. Because Interlock aluminum cannot rust and has no grain to split, and because the Alunar coating is warranted for 30 years against fading, the warranty reflects the product's actual lifespan. This is the last roof you buy, not a temporary solution.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require in Minnesota?
Interlock aluminum roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or clay tiles. Rainwater (about 641 mm annually) and snowmelt naturally clean the smooth aluminum surface; the Alunar coating resists algae and moss growth that plague shingles in humid climates. No seasonal inspections, no re-sealing, no granule replacement, and no wood treatment are needed. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 documents Interlock's CALGreen-verified status for reduced maintenance. A simple rinse after heavy snow or storm debris is all that's typically required, making it ideal for homeowners who want a roof that simply works for decades without attention.
Is Interlock metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's 50+ year lifespan, Interlock outperforms asphalt shingles economically. Asphalt requires complete replacement every 15–20 years, generating repeated labor costs and landfill waste. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty and non-prorated coverage mean no major expenses after installation. When you factor in a single replacement cycle plus maintenance, insurance savings from Class 4 hail rating, energy efficiency from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance), and the one-time transferable warranty that adds resale value, the total cost of ownership heavily favors aluminum. It's genuinely the last roof you'll install.
How is aluminum roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles are tear-off waste destined for landfills. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock panels end the asphalt replacement cycle entirely. Over 50 years, a typical home might otherwise dispose of three asphalt roofs; with Interlock, zero landfill contribution. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is inherently durable—it doesn't degrade chemically, so recycling yields virgin-quality material. published solar-reflectance listing for select colors also means reduced cooling load year-round, lowering your home's carbon footprint across its lifetime.
Is Interlock metal roofing fire-safe for my home?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and carries Class A fire classification, the highest rating available. Because aluminum contains no organic material and will not burn, flames cannot spread across the roof surface even in extreme wildfires. This performance is verified in the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025), which governs residential construction in Minnesota. Beyond safety, some homeowners find that Class A fire rating reduces insurance premiums and provides compliance with local fire codes. Aluminum's non-combustibility is inherent to the material—it never degrades and requires no special maintenance to preserve.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Richmond’s climate?
Yes. Richmond averages about 97 cm of snow, 641 mm of rain, roughly 78 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 107 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
