| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Montevideo Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Montevideo Heights, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Montevideo Heights.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow loads and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents water from refreezing at the eaves. Montevideo Heights receives about 87 cm of snow annually across roughly 82 freeze-thaw days, creating ideal conditions for ice dam formation on conventional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind, meaning snow and ice shift safely without compromising the seal. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to retain snow for insulation. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your structure bears a fraction of the load that slate or concrete tile would impose.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Montevideo Heights?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and cannot rust, making it immune to the corrosion damage that steel roofing or wood shakes suffer through Minnesota's 82 annual freeze-thaw days. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 rated) expands and contracts without cracking or splitting—problems that plague asphalt, wood, and concrete tile in freeze-thaw climates. With about 647 mm of annual rainfall and temperature swings well below freezing, moisture penetration is a real threat to competing materials. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) provides a durable moisture barrier that actually improves with age.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a microscopic oxide layer that protects the metal and self-heals when scratched—a natural process that happens invisibly and requires no maintenance. Steel roofing, by contrast, oxidizes into rust, which weakens the material and spreads over time, especially in wet climates like Montevideo Heights, which averages 647 mm of rain yearly. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, the same material trusted in coastal salt-air installations and even an Antarctic research station. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating on both sides adds 30 years of warranted protection, but even if that coating were removed, the base metal would remain stable indefinitely.
Is a metal roof secure in Minnesota windstorms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding Montevideo Heights' typical gusts of 23 km/h mean, with historical peak gusts to 97 km/h. The mechanical interlocking system—not adhesive—keeps panels locked together, so wind cannot lift or separate them. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the design meets current IBC and IRC building codes. Each profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) interlocks identically, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Installation over existing roofs does not compromise wind resistance when installed to spec.
What happens if hail damages a metal roof?
Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In practical terms, Class 4 means the roof withstands repeated impacts that would dent or crack asphalt shingles, wood shakes, and concrete tile. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because the claims rate is so low. The lightweight aluminum construction (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means hail impact energy is absorbed and dispersed rather than transferred to the roof structure. Minnesota's variable spring weather brings hail risk; this rating protects your home and your insurance record.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates concrete or clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the traditional materials it resembles. This means the roof can install directly over most existing structures without upgrades, and over most existing asphalt roofs without tear-off (saving time and landfill waste). In a climate with 87 cm of annual snow, that light weight is a major advantage: your home carries dramatically less burden through freeze-thaw cycles. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation over existing roofs meets code when fastened to spec, eliminating reinforcement costs that slate, concrete tile, or standing-seam steel installations often require.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it, lowering cooling costs and reducing roof surface temperature by 20–30°F compared to dark asphalt. Interlock's rated colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, both verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Montevideo Heights, with about 3227 annual sunshine hours and warm summer days, this reflectance reduces air-conditioning load, particularly on south and west exposures. The reflective benefit persists because the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against fading) maintains reflectance far longer than asphalt, which darkens over time. Energy savings compound over decades—one reason metal roofing qualifies as a green building material under CALGreen standards.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over a roof's lifetime, metal roofing eliminates the asphalt replacement cycle. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Minnesota's 82 annual freeze-thaw days and 647 mm rain; you replace it 2–3 times in 50–60 years. Interlock carries a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner (50 years transferable for the next owner), meaning one installation outlasts multiple asphalt cycles. Add the 120 mph wind warranty, Class 4 hail coverage, zero rust risk, minimal maintenance, and potential insurance discounts, and the per-year cost becomes competitive. The lightweight design (no structural upgrades needed) and ability to install over existing roofs (no expensive tear-off) further reduce total cost. Resale value gains also offset the initial premium, especially in Sibley County where curb appeal matters for buyer confidence.
How long will an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and one-time transferable for 50 years from completion—outlasting multiple asphalt cycles in Minnesota's demanding climate. Coverage includes rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance, plus the Alunar coating's 30-year protection against chalking and fading. The non-prorated material warranty means you receive the same coverage in year 1 and year 50, a rarity in roofing. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock panels have proven their lifespan in coastal salt-air homes (where corrosion accelerates) and even an Antarctic research station. In Montevideo Heights, with 87 cm snow, 647 mm rain, and 82 freeze-thaw days annually, that proven durability directly translates to security: this is your last roof.
Is there a local Interlock installer serving Montevideo Heights?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Montevideo Heights region since 2001 as the authorized installer for Sibley County. With over two decades of experience installing all five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—in Minnesota's freeze-thaw and snow-load conditions, they understand the specific challenges of your climate. Local installation ensures warranty compliance, proper fastening for 120 mph wind resistance, and intimate knowledge of permit and building-code requirements under ICC-ES ESR-1790. They can assess whether your existing structure will support the lightweight panels without reinforcement, advise on snow guard placement given your 87 cm annual snowfall, and coordinate the installation timeline (typically 1–2 weeks). Choose a local installer who knows your community and stands behind the work.
