Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in St. Joe

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in St. Joe, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in St. Joe.

How does metal roofing handle Minnesota snow loads and ice dams?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion—unlike asphalt, which traps moisture. St. Joe receives about 97 cm of snow annually with roughly 78 freeze-thaw days per year, making this critical. The panels are warranted to 120 mph wind speeds, so they resist uplift as snow slides off. Pair that durability with optional snow guards, and you eliminate the standing ice that causes dams and leaks in traditional roofing. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even under peak snow load.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in St. Joe damage aluminum roofing?

No—aluminum actually improves under freeze-thaw stress. The material is roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), with an oxide layer that naturally self-heals when scratched, so thermal cycling cannot degrade it. With 78 freeze-thaw days per year in Sibley County and mean temperatures around 7.1°C, your roof experiences repeated contraction and expansion, but aluminum responds elastically—it doesn't crack, curl, or split like asphalt shingles or wood shake. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) remains flexible across this temperature range, keeping the panels sealed year-round.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Minnesota's wet climate?

Aluminum contains no iron—it cannot rust, even in wet Sibley County conditions (averaging 641 mm of rain per year). Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer on its surface that self-heals when scratched, preventing corrosion from moisture or salt. This is why Interlock panels, manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, have been installed successfully in coastal salt-air homes and even an Antarctic research station. Combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel, your roof is protected against the Minnesota moisture and freeze-thaw cycle that rusts steel roofing. Steel panels rust and fail; Interlock panels stay sealed for life.

Is metal roofing safe in St. Joe's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding St. Joe's typical daily-max winds of 19 km/h and gusts to 107 km/h. The interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire roof assembly so no single panel bears the force. Each panel's edges mechanically lock to its neighbors, preventing uplift and flutter. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind-load provisions. When installed to specification over solid deck and underlayment, the system acts as one continuous structure. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, rely on adhesive in variable temperatures—wind peeling is common.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light: Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle at 0.41, Shake at 0.58, and Mediterranean Tile at 0.59—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. Because St. Joe homes were not built to carry 10+ tons of traditional tile, aluminum's feather-light weight is a massive advantage: you install over most existing roofs without costly structural reinforcement. The Tile profile delivers slate or tile aesthetics without the engineering challenge. This also means lower labor cost and faster installation. Asphalt shingles are light but fail in 20–25 years; Interlock panels outlast the home itself.

What's the warranty on Interlock roofing, and how long will it last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding resale appeal. The Alunar coating itself carries a 30-year fade and chalking warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). Combined with roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum that self-heals its oxide layer, panels typically last 50+ years with no structural degradation. In St. Joe's 78 annual freeze-thaw cycles, this durability means your last roof is truly your last roof—no tear-offs, no labor repeats, no planning replacement in 20 years.

How does metal roofing perform in hail, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In Minnesota's hail season, this robustness means zero risk of punctures or dent-triggered leaks. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 rated roofs because claim rates are negligible. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 listing to explore premium reductions. Asphalt shingles fail under 1-inch hail; slate and tile crack and dislodge. Aluminum's hardness and the panel's support structure absorb impact without failure, protecting your investment and potentially your wallet.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or shake?

Interlock roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: no moss or algae growth (aluminum does not support them), no shingle replacement, no crack sealing, no wood treatment. Asphalt shingles require frequent inspections, spot repairs, and nail pops; wood shake demands annual treatment and regular rotting inspections. With 97 cm of annual snow and 3,164 sunshine hours in St. Joe, simple annual gutter cleaning and snow-guard inspection suffice. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists chalking and fading, so no refinishing is needed. Your only action is preventive: clear gutters twice yearly and check fasteners after severe wind. This simplicity saves hundreds in maintenance labor over the roof's 50+ year life.

Do reflective metal roofing colors save on cooling costs in Minnesota?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors reach thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reducing the heat asphalt absorbs and lowering cooling costs, especially during St. Joe's 3,164 annual sunshine hours. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these finishes, confirming measurable energy savings. Minnesota summers are mild, so cooling savings are modest compared to southern climates, but the effect compounds over 50 years. More importantly, reflective coatings reduce roof surface temperature, extending the Alunar 70% PVDF finish's lifespan and reducing thermal stress during the 78 freeze-thaw days annually. The energy benefit is real; the longevity benefit is guaranteed.

Local expertise means faster response, accurate site assessment for 97 cm annual snowfall and 107 km/h wind gusts, proper installation over your existing roof, and post-installation support.
