| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Olney
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Olney, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Olney.
How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Wright County winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow reliably without pooling, and the material's smooth surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt. Olney averages about 84 cm of snow annually with approximately 84 freeze–thaw cycles per year—exactly the conditions where ice dams crack and rot traditional shingles. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without splitting or curling, and when installed to specification, the roof is warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, protecting against the 99 km/h gusts common here. Snow guards are available if you want to control shed direction.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum has no iron and cannot rust, and it actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates because the material expands and contracts without fracturing, splitting, or warping. With roughly 84 freeze–thaw days per year in Olney, wood shingles crack and asphalt becomes brittle and curls; aluminum simply cycles elastically without degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking per ASTM D4214/D2244) provides additional UV stability during those 3,295 annual sunshine hours, keeping the finish intact across decades of seasonal stress.
Why is an aluminum roof better than steel in a climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Unlike steel roofs, which oxidize and require protective coatings that eventually fail, aluminum's natural oxide layer self-heals when scratched—a critical advantage in climates with 733 mm of annual rainfall and freeze–thaw cycling. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this material's durability in wet and freeze environments. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a secondary defense, particularly valuable near salt air, though Olney's inland location benefits mainly from the aluminum's inherent corrosion immunity across its entire lifecycle.
Do metal roofs blow off in high wind, and is Olney prone to that risk?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together on all sides, making panel separation extremely unlikely. The roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above Olney's typical 24 km/h mean daily winds and even the 99 km/h gusts documented here. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this wind performance under IBC/IRC codes. With gusts potentially reaching that threshold during spring storms, the interlocking design and structural rating give you confidence that the roof won't fail where asphalt shingles often lift and tear.
What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and could it lower my insurance premiums?
Interlock holds the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact resistance and offer premium discounts on metal roofs, though your agent will confirm eligibility. Olney's climate sees typical hail risk consistent with the broader Midwest, and a roof that cannot dent, perforate, or lose impact resistance over time appeals to underwriters as a lower long-term liability. Request a quote from your insurer after installation; the documentation from the Intertek listing (33876) and UL rating supports your claim.
Is a metal roof heavy enough to need structural reinforcement to my house?
No. The Interlock Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural upgrades are needed. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) weighs less than half an inch of water on the deck. This means you can install metal roofing over most existing asphalt roofs without removing them, saving labor and landfill waste while keeping installation timelines tight. The lightweight design is especially valuable in freeze–thaw climates like Olney, where structural stress from heavy materials accelerates degradation.
What's the actual lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for a 50-year term from completion, adding permanent value to your home. Manufacturing since 1998 in Delta, BC, with installations from coastal salt-air environments to Antarctic research stations demonstrates durability far beyond typical asphalt (15–20 years). In Olney's 733 mm rainfall and 84 freeze–thaw cycle climate, aluminum's resistance to all these failure modes means you're buying your last roof.
Does a metal roof really save money on cooling in Minnesota summers?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting the heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. While Minnesota summers are moderate, Olney's 3,295 annual sunshine hours still drive cooling load; the Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy benefit. Reflective coatings reduce attic temperatures and air-conditioning runtime, offsetting energy costs year-round. The savings compound over decades—another reason metal roofing is the lifetime choice rather than a temporary shelter.
How long does installation take, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Yes, Interlock installs over existing asphalt shingles without removal, cutting labor time and disposal cost significantly. Installation typically takes 3–5 days for a standard residential roof, depending on pitch and square footage. Because aluminum weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Slate profile (about 0.59 for Tile), your existing structure carries the load without strain. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and knows Olney's local conditions, permitting, and contractor networks. A local crew means faster scheduling and oversight—critical when you're working through our 733 mm annual rainfall window.
Is metal roofing truly recyclable, or does it just shift the landfill problem?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and retains value in scrap markets, so end-of-life roofs return to the supply chain rather than landfills. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are seldom recycled and generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually. Interlock's aluminum ends that waste cycle while CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands over the roof's life—fewer replacements, fewer tear-offs. Over a 50-year ownership (yours plus the transferable 50-year term), the environmental footprint of one metal roof versus multiple asphalt replacements is dramatically lower, aligning with both practicality and sustainability.
