Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Southside Township, Minnesota
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Southside Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Southside Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Southside Township.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt because the smooth aluminum surface and low weight prevent the heavy accumulation that leads to ice dams. Southside Township averages about 96 cm of snow yearly, and freeze-thaw cycles occur roughly 83 days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay locked tight through freeze-thaw stress, and the aluminum won't split or rot from trapped moisture. You can add snow guards to control slide-off if preferred, but the roof itself won't deteriorate from the snow load like heavier materials would.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage my metal roof in Minnesota winters?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does so uniformly and predictably without degrading—it simply won't crack, curl, or rot the way asphalt, wood, and concrete tile do over Southside Township's roughly 83 annual freeze-thaw days. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling because Interlock aluminum roofs don't suffer from them. With about 96 cm of snow and 683 mm of rain per year cycling through freezing and thaw, the aluminum oxide layer self-heals any micro-scratches from ice and debris. Your roof won't weaken after the tenth winter or the twentieth.
Why can't an aluminum roof rust, and does that matter in Minnesota?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, a naturally occurring oxide layer instantly forms on the surface and self-heals when scratched—a permanent shield against the moisture and road salt carried on Minnesota winds. Interlock panels are made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant vigilance against rust perforation. In Southside Township, where you get 683 mm of rain annually plus snow melt, that distinction means your roof won't develop rust spots, stains, or structural weakness—ever.
Can a metal roof stand up to Minnesota wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph—well above the roughly 108 km/h gusts typical for Southside Township. The panels lock together so tightly that wind can't peel or lift them, and the lightweight aluminum (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) won't create the sail effect that heavier roofs do in strong gusts. Because the panels interlock on all four sides, pressure changes can't find an edge to exploit. You get the storm durability of a roof engineered for coastal and mountain conditions without the weight penalty.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock aluminum roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum's inherent hardness combined with its four-way interlock design absorbs hail impact without cracking, splitting, or losing integrity the way asphalt, wood, and tile do. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating to ask. In a region where hail is possible, you're protecting your roof from damage and potentially your wallet from claim deductibles.
Is my home's frame strong enough for a metal roof?
Yes, absolutely—in fact, metal roofing is lighter than your existing roof. The Interlock Tile profile, which replicates the appearance of concrete or clay tile, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. The Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft. You can install Interlock over most existing roofs without any structural reinforcement, which saves thousands in framing upgrades. Your home already carries the weight of its current roof plus snow load (96 cm annually in Southside Township), so switching to lightweight aluminum actually reduces the cumulative stress on your frame over the life of the roof.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Very little. Interlock aluminum requires only occasional rinses to remove pollen, dust, and debris—no roof repairs, no shingle replacement, no moss treatment. Asphalt shingles need regular inspections, gutter cleaning after each season, and eventual tear-off and replacement. Wood and tile require ongoing sealing and re-grouting. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling—problems that don't occur with aluminum. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Over 25 or 30 years in Southside Township's climate of 683 mm rain and 96 cm snow per year, you'll spend less time and money on roof maintenance than any other material.
Will a metal roof help cool my home in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 as rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. That means less heat transfers into your attic and living spaces, reducing air-conditioning load on hot days. Southside Township receives about 3,127 sunshine hours per year, so reflective coating performance adds up over the cooling season. The difference isn't dramatic in Minnesota summers, but combined with the roof's longevity—you won't replace it in 15 years with a different material—the energy savings compound over decades. Metal roofing won't make you forget your AC bill, but it works with your HVAC system rather than against it.
How does a metal roof compare to asphalt in total cost over time?
Interlock aluminum costs more upfront but is the last roof you'll install. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but need replacement every 15–20 years; over 50 years, you'll buy and install three roofs and pay for tear-off and disposal labor each time. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty—non-prorated for the original owner and transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion—means no replacement expense on your watch. Material durability through Southside Township's 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles and roughly 96 cm of snow avoids the premature failure that shortens asphalt life. When you factor demolition, disposal, reinstallation, and the disruption, metal roofing becomes cheaper per year over the long term.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Southside Township?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001, with crews trained in four-way panel interlocking and installation over existing roofs—a critical skill because improper sealing leads to leaks and warranty disputes. They understand Southside Township's drainage patterns, snow loads, and wind exposure, and can advise on snow guards, underlayment, and ventilation specifics for your home. A local installer means faster response to questions during or after installation, familiarity with building department requirements, and accountability within the community. When you invest in a 50-year roof, working with an installer who's been in the region for two decades and stands behind their work makes a real difference.
