What our customers are saying:

★★★★
Review: September 8, 2015Completion: August 18, 2015

Visually, the scratches on the dark brown color are very clear. They said they would redo it. Ours was a messy job because we had wooden shakes that were 40 years old. However, they were very courteous and I know it is not always perfect. There are some things I need to contact Alan about fixing. Overall I am happy with it.

Review: April 16, 2020Completion: March 20, 2020

They could have done a better job with cleaning up the nails and scrap metal, and just not throwing it off the roof in the first place.

We are not going to use them. Regarding our interaction with them, they did alright.

Review: June 14, 2016Completion: May 25, 2016

In my case where I wanted the roofing product installed on the sides of my dormers, which was discussed at the time of the agreement of the installation. There was a misconception of how I believed this would be installed on the dormers. There should have been more of an agreement how this was to be installed and what extra products would be needed to accomplish it. If there is a unique or out of the ordinary request for the roofing product installation at the time of the job estimate & agreement for the job to be done. This should be discussed more with installation crew before they get to the work site, so they know that they will need extra materials to do the unique installation. In my case; I needed to go to the building supply store to buy the extra materials to do the unique product installation on the side of the dormers. It is also very early to comment on how the product will perform during high winds & hail; the product installation has only been 3 weeks & there hasn't been a wind or hail storm yet. It has rained since & haven't noticed any leaking.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Albertville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Albertville, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Albertville.

How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Albertville winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface doesn't trap moisture the way shingles do. Albertville averages about 95 cm of snow annually across roughly 79 freeze-thaw days—cycles that crack and curl traditional asphalt. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, so heavy snow loads and ice dam pressure won't compromise the seal. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural reinforcement is needed, even as snow accumulates. Snow guards can be added if you prefer to control shedding.

Will Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles damage a metal roof over time?

No. Aluminum has a natural oxide layer that prevents corrosion and actually self-heals when scratched—freeze-thaw cycling cannot degrade it the way it does asphalt, wood, or concrete tile. Albertville experiences about 79 freeze-thaw days per year and roughly 796 mm of annual rainfall, conditions that punish materials that absorb water or expand unevenly. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) protects the metal further. Your roof won't split, curl, or rot; the Guardian Warranty covers all three for the lifetime of the original owner.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof has passed 2-inch steel ball impact tests that destroy asphalt shingles and slate. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofs because hail claims drop dramatically; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. In Wright County, where gusty springs are common, a non-compromised roof means no water intrusion, no interior damage claims, and no repair costs. The lightweight aluminum (Shingle ~0.41 lb/sq ft) won't sag under the weight of impact reinforcement either.

Can Interlock metal roofing handle Minnesota windstorms?

Yes. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Albertville's typical gust speeds reach about 94 km/h (58 mph), well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking panel design creates a unified, locked surface—each panel supports its neighbors, so wind pressure is distributed across the entire roof rather than lifted at seams or edges. In a region with frequent gusts, this mechanical interlock is more reliable than nailed-down asphalt or overlapping metal sheets. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance) certifies this system under modern wind load codes. Your roof won't lift, flutter, or separate during spring storms.

How long does Interlock metal roofing last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—no degrading coverage year to year. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. If you sell, the next owner receives 50 years of transferable warranty from completion, adding real resale value. The Alunar coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM measured). Combined with aluminum that cannot rust or rot, you're looking at a roof that outlasts multiple asphalt cycles. The product has been manufactured since 1998; many first-generation Interlock roofs installed 25+ years ago are still performing.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof, or can it install over my existing shingles?

No structural reinforcement needed. Interlock's weight is extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile (the heaviest) is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing framing can handle it. Most profiles install directly over your current roof without tear-off, saving labor and landfill waste. This matters in Albertville's climate because a lightweight roof doesn't sag under 95 cm of snow accumulation the way heavier materials do, and it won't stress aging rafters. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation over existing roofs; your local Interlock installer (serving the region since 2001) can confirm your specific home qualifies.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt in the long run?

Over the roof's life, yes. Asphalt shingles last 15-25 years in Minnesota's freeze-thaw climate (about 79 freeze-thaw cycles annually); you'll replace them 2-3 times before an Interlock roof needs replacement. Each asphalt tear-off generates landfill waste; Interlock's aluminum is about 95% recyclable, ending that cycle immediately. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, and cracking at no cost to the original owner. Asphalt requires ongoing maintenance (moss, debris, wind damage); Interlock requires virtually none. After 50-75 years, you've paid for multiple asphalt roofs plus repairs and removals. Interlock costs more upfront but is the last roof you'll buy—that's the real value.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers profiles in reflective finishes with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated), meaning the roof bounces heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. On Albertville's roughly 3,128 annual sunshine hours, that reflection compounds daily. Dark asphalt roofs can reach 160–180°F on sunny days; reflective metal roofs stay significantly cooler. The Alunar coating is applied to both sides of the panel and warranted 30 years against fade, so reflectance doesn't degrade over time. Savings depend on your AC use, but many homeowners see noticeable reductions in cooling load, especially late spring and early fall.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Albertville, and how long does the job take?

Interlock Metal Roofing serves Albertville and the Wright County region from a base of experience since 2001. Your installer is familiar with the specific challenges here: heavy snow loads (95 cm annually), frequent freeze-thaw cycling (about 79 days yearly), and wind gusts to 94 km/h. They understand local code requirements and can confirm your home qualifies for roof-over installation (no tear-off) if desired, which accelerates the timeline significantly. Most residential jobs complete in 1-3 days depending on roof size and whether existing shingles stay. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 and your local installer's experience with the interlocking panel system mean the job is done to specification the first time. Contact them for a site visit and timeline specific to your home.

What's involved in installing an Interlock metal roof, and can you install it over my existing shingles?

Installation is straightforward because Interlock panels are four-way interlocking—each panel locks to its neighbors mechanically, so you're not relying solely on fasteners or sealant. Yes, most homes qualify for roof-over installation, where the new roof installs directly over existing shingles, avoiding tear-off labor and waste. Your local installer (serving the region since 2001) inspects the substrate, installs underlayment and flashing per the ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification, then fastens the interlocking panels in alignment. Snow loads (95 cm annually in Albertville) and freeze-thaw stress are managed by the mechanical interlock design and the lightweight material (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Slate). Total timeline is usually 1-3 days. Your installer will explain your specific roof's requirements at the free estimate.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Albertville’s climate?

Yes. Albertville averages about 95 cm of snow, 796 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 94 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
