Review: June 14, 2016Completion: May 25, 2016

In my case where I wanted the roofing product installed on the sides of my dormers, which was discussed at the time of the agreement of the installation. There was a misconception of how I believed this would be installed on the dormers. There should have been more of an agreement how this was to be installed and what extra products would be needed to accomplish it. If there is a unique or out of the ordinary request for the roofing product installation at the time of the job estimate & agreement for the job to be done. This should be discussed more with installation crew before they get to the work site, so they know that they will need extra materials to do the unique installation. In my case; I needed to go to the building supply store to buy the extra materials to do the unique product installation on the side of the dormers. It is also very early to comment on how the product will perform during high winds & hail; the product installation has only been 3 weeks & there hasn't been a wind or hail storm yet. It has rained since & haven't noticed any leaking.

Review: September 8, 2015Completion: August 18, 2015

Visually, the scratches on the dark brown color are very clear. They said they would redo it. Ours was a messy job because we had wooden shakes that were 40 years old. However, they were very courteous and I know it is not always perfect. There are some things I need to contact Alan about fixing. Overall I am happy with it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Annandale

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Annandale, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Annandale.

How does a metal roof handle Annandale's snow load and ice dam risk?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow cleanly because aluminum conducts heat efficiently and has no water-absorbing substrate, unlike asphalt. With Annandale's typical 96 cm of annual snow and 83 freeze-thaw days per year, the smooth metal surface and optional snow guards prevent ice dams that crack and leak traditional roofs. The panels are tested and warranted for full snow loads per local building codes (ESR-1790), so you'll never worry about buckling or collapse—just clean seasonal drainage.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Unlike asphalt, which hardens and cracks in cold, or slate, which can split when water freezes inside its pores, aluminum expands and contracts uniformly and won't degrade. Annandale's 83 annual freeze-thaw days and 96 cm of snow are exactly the conditions where aluminum's non-porous nature shines. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains flexible through temperature swings and is guaranteed for 30 years against cracking (ASTM D4214), so your roof stays intact through decades of Minnesota winters.

Can an aluminum roof rust, and why does that matter in Minnesota?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the two elements that create rust. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath indefinitely. Minnesota's 683 mm of annual rainfall and occasional salt spray from winter road treatment mean a steel roof would need constant maintenance; aluminum simply doesn't corrode no matter how wet or salty the air. That's why Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and its lifetime limited warranty cover rusting—it's a promise the company knows it will never need to claim.

Can Annandale's wind gusts damage a metal roof, or rip it off?

Annandale's typical wind gusts reach 108 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design—unique to this system—locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than letting individual shingles lift. This engineering, combined with proper fastening into your deck, means gusts that would flutter asphalt shingles won't budge your metal roof. You'll hear the wind, but your roof stays put.

Does Interlock have a hail rating, and could it lower my homeowner's insurance in Minnesota?

Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail impact rating available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating often qualifies you for homeowner's insurance discounts because hail claims drop to near zero. Minnesota's spring and summer storm risk makes this valuable. Check with your local agent about your specific premium reduction, but Class 4 impact resistance consistently translates to lower annual insurance costs, sometimes recovering a portion of your roof investment within years.

Will a metal roof help with cooling costs in Minnesota summers?

Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it like asphalt, with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 in light colors. During Annandale's 3127 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity cuts cooling demand in air-conditioned spaces. The effect compounds across the year—your attic stays cooler in summer, reducing AC strain, and the metal's thermal properties don't degrade over time (the PVDF coating guarantees color and reflectance stability for 30 years per ASTM D2244). For a Minnesota roof, energy savings aren't dramatic, but they're real and measurable.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over time?

The math shifts when you measure a full roof life, not just installation day. Asphalt typically lasts 15–25 years and requires tear-off disposal; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and remains transferable 50 years from completion, covering rusting, cracking, splitting, and curling. Over 50 years, you'd replace asphalt 2–3 times; with Interlock, you buy once. Factor in zero replacement debris to landfills, minimal maintenance, and potential insurance discounts, and the total cost of ownership favors aluminum in a home you'll keep or pass to the next owner.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock requires minimal maintenance—no more than asphalt, and far less than wood shake or clay tile. Annandale's 683 mm annual rain naturally cleans the surface; you simply inspect gutters and trim overhanging branches. Unlike asphalt that loses granules and curls, or wood shake that splits and rots in Minnesota's damp climate, aluminum panels don't degrade or invite moss. The CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance burden so significantly that homeowners typically spend only routine gutter cleaning and the occasional snow-guard adjustment. One roof, one lifetime of peace.

Can a metal roof install over my existing asphalt roof, or does the old roof have to come off?

Interlock typically installs directly over your existing roof—no tear-off needed. The panels weigh about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, or Tile), making them light enough for most structures; the Mediterranean Tile profile is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no costly structural reinforcement is necessary. This over-roof installation saves weeks of debris removal and landfill disposal, gets you under protection faster, and costs less than full removal and disposal. Our local installer has guided Annandale homeowners through this process since 2001; they'll assess your deck during a free consultation.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and closes the asphalt-to-landfill cycle at end of life. Over a 50-year lifespan, choosing Interlock means zero tear-off debris from roof replacements, versus asphalt homeowners who discard tons of material into waste streams every 15–25 years. Annandale's 683 mm annual rainfall and winter weather accelerate asphalt degradation, multiplying landfill impact. Aluminum requires no virgin material after recycling; choose it once, and your home's roof footprint becomes circular rather than linear. The environmental math is clearest when measured across decades—exactly what Interlock's lifetime warranty enables.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Annandale’s climate?

Yes. Annandale averages about 96 cm of snow, 683 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 108 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
