Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Howard Lake

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Howard Lake.

Will a metal roof hold up through Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when exposed to temperature swings, which is why Interlock has performed in Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air environments. Howard Lake experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, but aluminum cannot rust or rot as temperatures cycle. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloys (ASTM B209) are engineered specifically for this stress. Unlike asphalt, which hardens and cracks, or wood shake, which splits, aluminum flexes without permanent damage. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime.

How does metal roofing handle Howard Lake's snow load and ice dams?

The smooth, slippery surface of metal roofing naturally sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles, reducing ice dam formation. Howard Lake averages about 90 cm of snow annually across roughly 3,163 sunshine hours, so snow melts faster on a reflective metal surface. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are also extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so your home's structure bears minimal load even when snow accumulates. Optional snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled shedding. The panels are rated for Class 4 impact (UL 2218) and handle typical regional wind gusts up to 97 km/h without issue.

Can a metal roof survive Wright County's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Howard Lake's typical gusts reach 97 km/h, well within that safety margin. The interlocking design means each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified, self-bracing system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineering is why the panels hold an ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) for both IBC and IRC code compliance. Asphalt shingles, which rely solely on nails, cannot match that redundancy.

Do I need to reinforce my house to install metal tile roofing?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it can be installed over most existing roofs without any structural modification. This light weight is one of aluminum's greatest advantages over traditional materials. Your home's framing bears the same load whether you choose Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Tile—all profiles remain extraordinarily light. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms installation over most existing roof structures. Many homeowners save money by avoiding the $3,000–$8,000 reinforcement costs that traditional tile demands.

Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance after hail?

Metal roofing's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—qualifies for insurance discounts with many carriers because the material resists hail damage far better than asphalt. The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, giving you double protection. Some insurers offer 10–20% discounts on comprehensive or home policies when you install a Class 4 roof; others waive or reduce the hail deductible. Howard Lake's climate includes variable storm risk, so this rating matters. Contact your insurer before installation to confirm your discount, but the Class 4 designation signals durability that underwriters recognize and reward.

Will an energy-efficient metal roof save me money on cooling costs?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. The Aged Copper Penny color achieves initial solar reflectance of 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, both Cool Roof Rating Council verified. Over Howard Lake's 3,163 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance reduces the heat load transmitted into your attic. Studies consistently show reflective metal roofing cuts cooling costs by 10–20% in mixed climates. The energy savings compound year after year, offsetting the material cost. Unlike asphalt, which hardens and loses reflectance over time, the Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains its reflective properties for decades, as warranted over 30 years against fading (ASTM D2244 measured).

What does the Guardian warranty really cover, and how long does it last?

The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no deductibles. One-time transferable to the next owner, it extends 50 years from completion, which is exceptional longevity. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years and require full replacement; metal roofing built from roofing-grade aluminum (ASTM B209) routinely lasts 50+ years. When you sell, the next owner inherits 50 years of coverage—an attractive selling point. The warranty is backed by a manufacturer in continuous operation since 1998, now serving installations from coastal to Antarctic environments.

Is aluminum metal roofing actually recyclable, or does it end up in a landfill?

Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Aluminum never degrades—it can be melted down and reformed into new products indefinitely without loss of quality. When asphalt shingles are replaced, the torn-off material fills landfills; aluminum never does. Interlock panels manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC use efficient production methods verified under CALGreen standards for reduced maintenance burden. Over Howard Lake's climate of 748 mm rain and 90 cm snow annually, the durable aluminum surface sheds water and ice efficiently, requiring virtually no replacement or waste during its 50+ year lifespan. Choosing aluminum is choosing a material that truly closes the loop.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing shingles, and how long does it take?

Yes—Interlock aluminum can install directly over most existing asphalt roofs, saving the cost and waste of tear-off. Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and pitch. The installer applies the aluminum panels over your existing roof deck and underlayment, creating a unified weathertight system. No structural work is required because the panels are so light—about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile. Installation follows ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 guidelines for both IBC and IRC code compliance. The local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing, has served the Wright County region since 2001 and can provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or cedar?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning. Aluminum does not rot, crack, split, curl, or need repainting—the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, handles weathering passively. Asphalt shingles require inspection and replacement every 15–20 years; cedar shake splits and rots within 15–30 years and demands professional treatment and repair; concrete tile cracks and leaks. Howard Lake's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 748 mm rainfall stress traditional materials continuously, but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals from moisture and temperature stress. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Over a 50-year lifespan, the time and money saved on maintenance alone offset the material cost many times over.
