What our customers are saying:
The communication is incredibly poor, mind-boggling poor. I would suggest improving the communication. I still haven't received my warranty or final payment statement. The sign is still in my yard. I don't want to throw it away. It's a nice big sign, and I'm sure they would like to use it. I didn't threaten them with anything.
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
They were courteous and very efficient. They did a fine job.
They could have improved on the scheduling.
I have no feedback for this rating. I felt they could have improved in communication, specifically a few days notice before the start date. There is nothing else I would like to share.
Communication about the date of the project was difficult to ascertain. The crew was very hard working, courteous and kept the job site clean, but they cut down branches of a tree in my front yard that made me extremely upset.
Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.
They could have improved on communication.
Interlock Roofing- Minneapolis is a very professional team for installation and quality of material! We are very happy! Considering the quality and endurance of the material, the cost isn't high in the long run. It absolutely makes the product much more feasible and reasonable than shingles!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Utica
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Utica, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Utica.
How does a metal roof handle Utica's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt—preventing the ice dams that form when melting water refreezes at roof edges in Utica's typical 83 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, so they anchor snow securely without slipping or billowing. With about 99 cm of snow annually, you'll appreciate that aluminum doesn't absorb moisture or degrade under freeze-thaw cycling the way asphalt does. Optional snow guards can be added to prevent avalanche-style slides. The lightness—Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement needed, even under peak snow loads.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; it develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—exactly what you need in a climate with 83 annual freeze-thaw days. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks under thermal stress, or wood shakes, which split, aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is specified for exactly this cycling. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating—warranted 30 years against fading and chalking—adds a second defense layer. Utica's mean temperature of 8.1°C and variable winter conditions won't compromise the material; the Guardian Warranty covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime.
Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in Minnesota winters?
Aluminum cannot rust at all—it contains no iron, the element that oxidizes and creates rust. Instead, it forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal and self-repairs when scratched. This is a fundamental material difference, not a coating advantage. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant maintenance to prevent rust, especially after road salt or freeze-thaw cycles expose the substrate. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every Interlock panel (even the underside, crucial in salt air or wet climates) adds corrosion resistance and is warranted 30 years. Utica's 818 mm annual rainfall won't corrode aluminum the way it degrades steel or wood. The result: a roof that lasts without rust repair.
How does a metal roof perform in Utica's spring and fall windstorms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that they move as a single unit—the warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Utica's typical gust maxima of about 101 km/h. Each panel interlocks on all four edges, eliminating the lifting and flutter that affect shingles. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) means the roof also resists hailstone impact up to 1.5 inches, common in spring severe weather. With about 3,109 sunshine hours per year in Utica, you'll see the roof's durability firsthand over decades—no shingles torn away by April wind gusts or granules lost to friction. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers wind loss when installed to spec.
Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance in Utica?
Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated roofing—the highest hail rating available. Interlock achieves this without brittleness; the aluminum's ductility absorbs impact energy rather than cracking. The Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, a rare promise in the roofing industry. Spring storms in Minnesota often produce hail, and asphalt shingles typically fail at smaller impact sizes, triggering claims and rate increases. Contact your insurer with the ESR-1790 evaluation report and UL 2218 Class 4 certification—many will quote a premium reduction immediately. Over a 50-year lifespan, those discounts compound into meaningful savings.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is a fraction of traditional tile weight. This means Interlock can install over most existing roofs, avoiding costly framing upgrades. Utica's average snow load of about 99 cm per year is well within the capacity of standard roof framing when topped by such light material. The four-way interlocking system distributes weight evenly across the deck. You get the visual richness of slate, cedar, shake, or tile—profiles offered on this page—without the structural cost. Installation typically happens in days, not weeks of reinforcement work.
What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof in Minnesota?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. That means a roof installed today stays protected through 2074 for the second owner alone. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). With Utica's 83 annual freeze-thaw days and 818 mm rainfall, you're covered for the worst seasonal stress. The warranty is issued by Interlock Metal Roofing, your local installer since 2001—not a third-party administrator, so claims are direct.
Can an aluminum roof lower my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates Interlock's reflective coatings with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity 0.84—meaning the roof bounces sun away instead of trapping heat like asphalt shingles do. In Utica's approximately 3,109 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity translates to measurable cooling savings, especially on east and west exposures. Darker energy-efficiency colors still outperform asphalt; lighter finishes can save 10-15% of cooling energy in warm months. The net effect over 50 years: lower utility bills, reduced strain on HVAC systems, and a smaller carbon footprint. The aluminum itself is ~95% recyclable at end of life, closing the material loop.
How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof?
Installation typically completes in 2-5 days depending on roof complexity and weather. Because aluminum panels are exceptionally light—Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft—crews move quickly without structural strain. Interlock installs over most existing asphalt roofing, avoiding a costly and wasteful tear-off. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing, has been serving the region since 2001 and understands Utica's weather windows; they schedule around the 99 cm of snow and 818 mm of annual rainfall. The four-way interlocking system is straightforward to seal and fasten. Most homeowners remain in their homes during installation. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) ensures the installation meets all Minnesota building code requirements.
Is an aluminum metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Aluminum is ~95% recyclable; at end of life, your roof becomes raw material for new products. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, shed 20 million tons annually into landfills in North America—they don't decompose and can't be recycled into new roofing. Interlock's manufacturing process in Delta, BC, uses established aluminum recycling supply chains. By installing a metal roof now, you eliminate the tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely; your roof won't need replacement for 50+ years, and when it does, it recycles. Utica's 83 freeze-thaw days and heavy snow stress asphalt faster, requiring more frequent replacement and more landfill waste. The Guardian Warranty's 50-year transferability also extends the roof's useful life—fewer replacements per generation means fewer resources consumed. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced-maintenance design lowers environmental impact over its lifespan.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Utica’s climate?
Yes. Utica averages about 99 cm of snow, 818 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 101 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
